Still, the point is there's precedent in a broad sense, and the OT never gets into the nitty-gritty of what a force-ghost can and can't do. It's a blank slate, Yoda in TLJ doesn't contradict jack that came before it.

None of which is established in the movies. It's a blank slate, no rules are laid out other than Obi can't "interfere" when Luke confronts Vader. That could mean a dozen different things.

Just because you have a blank slate, doesn't mean you should hit yourself in the head with it.

There are no rules that a force ghost can't 'interfere' directly with the real world, but any writer worth two bits realizes the problems and questions that they can't answer that would arise, if one were to do so.

I believe it's a given that he will appear in the movie to come capacity. The question will be how prominent of a role he will have.

The people who enjoyed the TLJ will be content with him being a force ghost, offering guidance to Rey.

The people who didn't enjoy TLJ, will likely want some type of major redemption arc in the story for Luke. Maybe even have him come back in the flesh instead of a force ghost.

I wouldn't be surprised Abrams pulls a Yoda in "Last Jedi" and aids Rey in her fight against Kylo Ren by bringing down Force lightning or something. For those people who thought Luke got cheated out of the "duel to end all duels" big hurrah moment in "TLJ", Abrams might do something to appease them. Personally, I liked Luke's death but can't please everyone.
