Horror The Black Phone

lots of positive buzz about this one. I really hope it's good! I heard a lot of praise about that movie X and I was really let down by it, but I've got a lot of faith in Scott Derrickson so I'm hyped.

As someone that really enjoyed X and thought Scream 22’ was decent, this has been a pretty good year for horror so far. Really looking forward to this especially since Sinister is one of the best horror movies of the last decade.

Oh yeah I really liked Sinister and also its sequel

The Black Phone Director Teases Potential Sequel Plans

While early efforts in his career featured franchise sequels, Scott Derricksonmade a name for himself in the horror realm with original stories like The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister, and Deliver Us from Evil, but the filmmaker himself recently confirmed that if the upcoming The Black Phone resonated with audiences, there are already tentative plans for a follow-up adventure. Given that filmmakers typically play coy about laying the foundation of an ongoing journey, for Derrickson to directly confirm that he hopes to be able to develop a sequel would imply that it's a pretty likely opportunity. With the film being based on a short story by Joe Hill, the author even detailed to Derrickson what the next chapter would explore. The Black Phone lands in theaters on June 26th.

"Joe Hill pitched me a wonderful idea for a sequel to Black Phone that, if this movie does well, I'm gonna do it. He's got a great idea, I really liked it," Derrickson shared with ComicBook.com. "Joe's very protective and personal about his material, but he came to me with the idea and I was like, 'That's how you do a sequel to Black Phone. That's terrific.'"

Loved this and its easily one of my favorite films of the year. Great sound design, direction, tension and atmosphere in this movie and Ethan Hawke has never been more terrifying IMO.

The main is kid is great too, but the sister stole pretty much every scene she was in lol. I'd definitely recommend this to all horror fans but be prepared for some pretty brutal moments of violence involving kids.

How much do the trailers give away?

Awesome to hear you loved this, and I can’t wait to watch it!

Honestly, nowhere near as much as I thought they did which was nice because the main issue I had with the marketing for this movie is that I thought the trailers showed way too much.

Fortunately, there was still plenty of surprises left.

So I know there are supernatural elements in this but is this more of a thriller like Silence of the Lambs or horror like Derrickson’s other stuff?

I wrote it in my review, but I just love how this movie manages to accurately depict a whooping without sugarcoating it or painting the parent as an unforgivable villain. You almost never see one in a movie or show that shows it without bias.

Also, not sure how I feel about them changing the Blumbhouse title sequence. They got Michael Myers dead center of it instead of that demon girl.

It's more Silence of the Lambs like the Buffalo Bill part of the movie.
That Fing movie gave me a nightmare I'll never forget.

I'm gonna go see it soon. Maybe I'll have some more fun when I'm asleep.

Does Blumhouse have a monopoly on horror films now?

Not really but I can see why it might look like it.

You got A24 doing horror, IFC Midnight is still somewhat strong, Shudder has really started making their own original horror movies, and then you have the even smaller horror production companies like Dark Sky Films and SpectreVision doing stuff.

Saw the movie yesterday, thought it was pretty good, 8/10 for me.

It definitely made me wish Scott Derrickson was the one who actually ended up directing Doctor Strange 2 though, instead of Sam Raimi. I mean I'm glad DS2 was at least directed by Raimi, but pretty sure that movie would've been better with Derrickson directing.

A well-made "thriller" type of movie, although I was disappointed it was more thriller than horror. Ethan Hawke was great as always, and the kids all did a good job too. Directing was solid too, as was the musical score.

The Colorado setting threw me off guard a bit, especially because I saw the movie in a theater that was located really close to the movie's geographic setting. I think that caught everyone in the theater off guard, in fact. ;)

Just saw this today. Derrickson really struck gold with the main two kids. I’m a little surprised at how much was held back in regards to Hawke’s character. The pre-release chatter had me thinking I might be scarred for life.

Also the use of Pink Floyd was incredible.

Caught it in theaters yesterday and really enjoyed it. Excellent tension-building from Derrickson. The two main kids were great, and Ethan Hawke was just next-level terrifying for such a largely subtle performance. Probably my favorite from Derrickson.
