The Brave and the Bold News and Discussion Thread

Just got finished rewatching the Batman in preparation for the Penguin series. At first I didn’t think we could have Matt Reeves Batman in an alternate Universe and the DCU Batman in the movie landscape at the same time but now I see that basically they will be two different variations of Batman. One of the few issues I have seen people complain about the Batman is that it’s two grounded and not much action. The DCU Batman could be the cartoon Batman come to life with his Wayne tech gadgets and boy wonder side kicks. I think there is a market that won’t divide the fandom. They just have to make the Batmans different.

The penguin is freaking awesome. Sopranos on steroids.

I'm curious if they are gonna take risks with Damien. Like hit girl in kickazz, or if they water him down.

I am probably getting way ahead of myself off of watching a trailer to a cartoon but do you think Gunn and DC are trying to bring the Animated series Batman to life? The introduction of Clayface into the DCU means that we are probably getting a Batman that can go up against villains with powers. I will finally admit that Pattinson can not come to the DCU.

The DCU Bruce Wayne needs to be a guy whose lived in a world with shape shifting monsters, half Bat / Half man creatures, A woman who can control plants , in addition to venturing to outerspace, other dimensions, and being close friends with an Alien and a Greek God.

That's a specific, and different, of a vision of the character, than what Matt Reeves has in mind.

Gunn wants to put his own stamp on the character, as many creative writer/ filmmakers out there , would like to do .

Whether it was Nolan, Burton, Schumacher , or even Snyder , each filmmaker wanted to put their own stamp on the character, and do their own thing with it.

Gunn wants to have his own Batman to fit his own world

I agree, but at the same time, it's unfortunate that we have Reeves doing such amazing work with "The Batman" and "The Penguin". I wonder how brilliant it could be to see more Reeves's work with as characters like Nightwing, Barbara,..

I'll be honest, I've enjoyed the penguin more than the batman, and I liked his Batman.
When watching, You know penguin is a POS, but you still pull for him to win.
Bravo.

Initially I think you're gonna see more shades of Grant Morisson's Batman brought to life.

Batman coming soon after Superman is introduced is not a surprise. Those are the foundations of your DC universe right there.

Yeah, there's been a lot of talk about Gunn waiting for Reeves to finish his trilogy before the DCU Batman solo movie, but I don't think that was ever a possibility. I'm glad TBATB is moving forward (hopefully without Muschietti :cheeky:)

I can see Gunn playing it safe and going with Powell and Skarsgard as Batman and Joker. I wouldn’t hate it

Powell works. Gives me an Adam West vibe.

Lol glad to see the Powell Running Man set pics already made their way over here.

Works for me. He’s different enough from Pattinson, for sure.

I'm actually a bit surprised at the lack of movement with this. We got the Muschietti as director announcement and then nothing.

I'm not.
For the moment, the focus is on Superman and the “leftovers” of what Gunn was able to sign back in the DCEU days (Creature Commandos, Peacemaker), probably partialy repurposed for this “new” universe. Behind the scenes, things are progressing for sure, but I don't think anyone wants to rush anything at the moment, there's enough to hold the headlines with Superman, Lanterns and Supergirl...
Then there's the proximity to Reeves' Batman, whose Penguin spin-off was long-awaited and has now, apparently, reignited the hype machine for this take.

If I had to guess, I'd say we won't hear anything about BATB until at least next summer.
And even then, with The Batman Part II likely to be shot and scrutinized by fans and media alike, I imagine it'll only be “small” announcements.

In 2026, however, I can see Reeves having to share the spotlight...

Powell would be my least favourite Batman casting we've gotten so far by orders of magnitude except in the very specific scenario where he's straight up Adam West. Which won't happen but would rule.

Skarsgard would would be a way better Batman, imo.

That makes sense.

My gut feeling is that this doesn't hit theaters until 2028 or '29. Something like The Authority seems more likely to get made first, and if they're smart, they'll leave some breathing room between this and The Batman Part 2.

-Josh Hartnett is probably at the top of my list but I just don’t see him wanting to commit to this.

-Gyllenhaal and Gosling are the same too. I want Batman to appear in a lot of different projects in the DCU. Don’t see them wanting to commit to

-Brandon Sklenar. don’t really like the Sklenar idea but he may be the level of actor that we’ll be stuck with.

-Powell would be boring and predictable but he says he has a take on the character. Can see him committing to this actually.

-Jensen Ackles is tv core and never broke through to film for a reason. But he’d probably be down for a 10+ film contract.

-Ritchson should be Aquaman if anything. I still love Smallville and he’s only gotten better since then. I say bring him back.

-Jon Hamm may be too old but I would love it.

-Ethan Hawke would be excellent but also too old probably

I’m really not against a Batman in his 50s. It would set him apart from Pattinson, and it works considering Hal is nearly 60

“There’s no set timeline for anything. The one thing that I’ve tried to make clear to people from the beginning, in the way that I hope we're different, is that everything in DC is going to be based on the writers. Until we have a screenplay that I’m totally happy with, that movie is not going to get made , no matter what it is. So, we have been really fortunate with some screenplays. You know, 'Supergirl' came in and just, wow Ana [Nogueria] did such an amazing job, the 'Lanterns' pilot came in, and now the whole 'Lanterns' series came in, and it's like 'Wow that's wonderful, wonderful work.' And there's a couple of other things that people don't know about, a couple of movies and TV shows that are greenlit or near greenlit. But it's going to be based always on that, on the story, because at the end of the day if we're happy with the story that we're telling, that's what matters most. And once 'The Brave and the Bold' gets to that point, then we'll make the movie.

I’m fine with Powell but not if his hair looks like that lol.

We just gotta get the joker from the animated filns.
Crazy as he11, but highly intelligent, and able to outwit Bats AND go toe to toe with him, with no fear at all.
Green high, perman white skin, red lips, huge toothy smile, crazy laugh.

Too bad they can't get willem dafoe. All he would need is the makeup, no prosthetics.
