1) You could be born in 1926 doesn't make your fancasting of Liam Neeson as Darkseid any less of a pipedream than Michael Ironside, at least my one is steeped in experience (seeing as he's voiced him before) and the knowledge that it literally makes zero sense to cast Neeson (you might as well have said forest whitaker or mickey rourke)

2) Don't be so quick as to assume anyone looking to fancast someone like andre braugher or michael ironside is driven purely by nostalgia, even though i specifically told you that in a cgi performance, voice is everything.

Sorry if im coming off as a little aggressive, it's not that i don't respect your opinion (one that I disagree with to the point that i think im being punk'd) but if your go to counter-argument for the Ironside casting suggestion is liam neeson, I can't take it seriously at all. :funny:

1. Um... You brought up age when you implied I was under 21 with all that goes with it. As the saying goes, "Don't start none, there won't be none".

2. Look back on the previous page. I made my casual suggestion (I ain't married to the idea) of Neeson as ole stone face before you brought up Ironside. So... It's was never a counter argument to anything.

3. I also stated that I like Andre. I always have going back to Glory and Homicide. I made no comment on him as a nostalgia pick, but noted that while I did like him in the DTV where he voiced The Dread Lord Of Apokalips, that it's been my experience that he was not well received by a large segment of fans for what ever reason, at least that's what I find online.

4. Liam Neeson, whatever one might think has a distinctive and commanding voice and I find it hard to believe (other than AS I MENTIONED, his appearing in Batman Begins) there are grounds to be dismissive of him as Darkseid. He's a world class actor that would play well, has the voice and gravitas, has his own experience in voice work (Narnia, The Lego Movie) and is one of the biggest stars in the world whose name recognition would bring credibility to the role and the film. Look... I like Ironside. He's cool. But reasonably speaking... No. WB is never going to give him the role of the main villain in a film for their DC properties that has a production cost of $200 +, especially not on the grounds that he did the voice over work for the character in a cartoon from close to two decades ago. I'm sorry but to suggest it would be so, does reek of nostalgia. Tell your non geek friends, family and co-workers that Neeson is playing the big bad in JL and the response will be, "Really? Cool. He's always good." Tell them that Ironside is playing the villain and the response will be more often than not, "Who?" and then you'll have to remind people of what things Ironside has been in that they would remember. Protest all you like, but that's how it is.

Some (like me) even just disliked it.

Regarding Ironside - ignoring everything else that goes with it, I'd have liked him to return because I loved his voice. Simple as.
If tptb ignore him because he isn't a name anymore (or maybe never was enough of one) so be it, and can see it being the case - but his voice..... Brilliant.

Where his voice was measured yet unique, Andre B's voice came across as a a little... prissy? I'm sure that's the wrong word, but yeah. I preferred him in the film when he was angry, though, sounded less 'prissy'.
 
All this casting talk does have me curious as to how DC will cast Darkseid. I honestly have no clue what direction they might go. They've been largely unpredictable.
 
I was gonna say the same thing. One can deduce what Neil said by sheer analysis.
 
The only thing I'm not sure about is how one is expected to deduce that Superman doesn't report to someone but Batman does. The trailer doesn't exactly make that clear. Only Superman's side is clear given the trailer's remarks about absolute power corrupting absolutely.

I'm extremely relieved that it seems they're going with the neat conflict of Superman's freedom vs. Batman's desire to uphold the law.
 
I said this before but... Classically, despite fans viewing Batman as an outlaw, he in fact does have a working relationship with the legitimate authorities in the form of Gordon. No, he doesn't take orders (an forgive NDT... He's an actual scientist, a real geek, not an obsessive fanboy) from Gordon but it can be argued that as a mortal man, Batman understands that he does have limitations and that working with someone like Gordon makes his mission that much easier. Sorry Chris Bale... Batman does have limits.

Superman however, doesn't have them to the extent that Batman does. Yes, he has traditionally been shown to be a character that abides by U.S. and international law and norms... But he chooses to do so. He really doesn't have to. And that is a compelling story idea to my mind. Who, if anyone gets to tell him "no"? Wouldn't that be a question on people's minds if we found ourselves with a super powered man going around helping people? These issues can get really sticky, despite the best intentions. I mean... Have we already forgotten the lessons of the war in Iraq? The assumption that we would be greeted as liberators? That the situation would simply allow for an easy transition to peace and democracy once an evil man and his regime were removed... Good intentions did not automatically equal a good outcome. Perhaps the story is one where Batman is representative of a populace of humans that is uneasy to the point of outrage that they think their collective sense of self rule has been usurped?
 
Looking at the trailer scenes with Soldiers kneeling to Superman....Im thinking Superman Red son may have some influences on this movie.That is the idea of Superman ruling a Nation

That actually might be a good thing.I mean think about it.Imagine Superman being forced to become the Leader of the Nation during a time of Crisis.

Thats a nice dramatic story right there.To see Superman struggle with the responsibility of leadership,leading and inspiring the people to make the nation a better place.

Of course there will be a couple of people who are not a fans of Supermans ruling.Batman for instance would probably rebel against Supermans "rule" until he realizes that Superman isnt a powerhungry Dictator but a reluctant leader determined to save the Nation.

Superman would off course step down from ruling once crisis is averted

I'm thinking WB will cast somebody ethnic for Darkseid. We probably won't get any Caucasian actors. That said, I'd love Javier Bardem for the role. That man is terrifying.

Bardem exactly fits into that ethnic category and that's what I'm hoping for as well.

The amount of diversity in these films' casts so far.





These are just some of the POC WB has gotten for their DC movies so far and I hope they continue that. :mnm:

I was addressing Supergrave, and my question had absolutely nothing to do with taking issue with diversity in casting. What is there about the character of Darkseid that marks him specifically as "ethnic" that I'm missing? Darkseid is a massive, beastly humanoid alien, so I can't help but find the statement that they'll supposedly definitely cast an "ethnic" actor over a white one to be curious.

Yeah, I applaud WB for this. I know it's the "cool" thing to talk sh** on them and act like everything Marvel does is better but WB is making bigger strides in this area and that's a great thing.
 
Javier Bardem is definitely my pick for Darkseid.

Rodrigo Santoro would also be amazing. His Xerxes voice screams Darkseid to me
 
I'm pretty sure his Xerxes voice was just the result of it being digitally altered.

I never said they were "definitely" casting somebody of another ethnicity. I just think it's very possible, considering the cast they've chosen so far across their films.
