The Cape

It's funny a lot of people I know ,including my wife, love No Ordinary Family. I just can't get into it though. It's just waaaay too boring for me.

Lol at everybody writing off the show already. Good pacing, writing and acting (better than the event, hawaii five o AND Chuck). Good first episode. As good as smallvilles first.

Good pacing? you crazy?! The guy was a hero, framed, trained, nearly died, and fought the main villain within the first hour. I cant remember all the way back to smallvilles first season but im pretty sure it was well liked by most people. And my guess is that it didnt have as big as a budget as the cape.

this on the other hand i did not like. Comparing the acting to the event and hawaii five o is not the best way to prove a point.

Get PAST the first hour, and get into the normally...NON-background build up portion of the show and YES, the PACING is good. Compare it to the first four episodes of V the series (whose second season appears to have gotten the pacing right).

The pacing for the CAPE is exactly where it is for Supernatural, Chuck, Fringe....

People didn't like Battlestar Galactica's debut...

That show turned out to be pretty popular.

This show is light years better than Undercover too.

I liked this and Cann is nominated for a Golden Globe so I would say comparing the acting to Hawaii Five O is ok.

The first two episodes of Fringe had way better pacing than the first two episodes we got from the Cape. And better character development.

Well that was unintentionally hilarious.

The first hour was pretty terrible. Just a lot of camp and break-neck pacing/editing. No sense of character development. No sense of attachment for the main guy or his family. It is just always in a hurry to get to the next scene. The second hour was a little better with it taking a few moments for the "Cape" to do some soul searching. Sadly that was not very interesting. But the restaurant sequence was...kind of entertaining. As was his meeting with the Prison Secretary.

Ugh. The only really positive things on this show are James Fran and Keith David. Two great character actors hamming it up nicely.

I wish I could say something really nice about Summer Glau because I love Firefly and think she has a lot of potential and was the best thing about that Terminator show that made it watchable. But this show has even subverted her to be nothing but a generic helper. Such a waste.

And that is a sentiment I can have for the whole show. I hope only NBC suffers and that none of these actors' careers are hurt by this show. I really wanted to like this.

But Chuck has wit, class and charm. It is meta-subversive and clever The Cape, despite its brisk pace, seems about as nimble as a drunken lumberjack pissing in the snow.

I don't know where I was going with that analogy, but I think it's still fitting for The Cape.

Anyway, Chuck is fantastic.

Why do people think Vince is dead? Yeah, I understand the tanker blew up and Vince was under it right before it blew up, but there's obviously no evidence he died. Which makes me wonder, what exactly was buried in Vince's casket? Peter/Chess obviously didn't cover it up, as he would have known Vincent was still alive, and as far as I was able to keep up with, he wasn't aware. Which brings me to my next point, why is Peter still putting on the Chess persona? Walking around as The Chess while Chess is supposed to be dead isn't the best of ideas, especially when you used the death of Chess to gain power in Palm City.

I don't know, this show is just..bad. You have poor writing, an absurdly fast pace, zero character development, instant friendships, ridiculously poor flashbacks, Look-at-me-computer-monitors, etc. Man, the folks at TVTropes are going to go nuts with this show.

I wonder if the writers of this show ever picked up a single comic in their lives. This show was cringe inducing and gave me flashbacks to the corny Schumaucher Batman films of the 90's.

is it a requirement to read comics if you are making a show about a superhero that doesnt appear in any comics?

I had an uncle who drove gas tankers and it crashed and exploded. All my aunt was given to bury was a melted wedding ring

My female best bud loves it, so after Glee every Tuesday I'm forced to watch it with her. It's part of the deal. I'm so glad it's ratings are going down because I can't wait for it to be cancelled.

I watched out of curiosity. I wanted light hearted camp - good ole' classic comic book nonsense. I'm a sucker for that kind of vibe. Well, this did have all that cheesy comic booky stuff, I guess, however the show takes itself waaaaaay too seriously. That's its problem.

Either be campy or be gritty. It's not impossible to have both those aspects, but this show tries and fails miserably.

Whoever scored the show,. He/She was either mad drunk, or doesn't like their job very much.

I hate being a "forum critic," but this will get canceled fast.

Bear McCreary

he also did the Human Target score.

I think No Ordinary Family suffers from the same stupidity that Heroes suffered from...fear to put someone in costume. So we are left with floundering storylines instead of taking thinks to their logical conclusion.
Its like producers are watching Smallville but not understanding that the show is based on the promise that we are watching him become Superman.

I found the show to be awful.

Writing was rediculous, the pacing gave you no chance at all to care about anyone. You never get a chance to feel for any scene either. Because just as you're getting the feel of whats happening, suddenly its a different place, time shifted 12 hours and something entirely different is happening.

The writing was worse than heroes. and thats saying something.

I guess I never had high hopes for this show, but I had kept my fingers crossed because I adore keith david...

It wasn't perfect, but overall I liked it, and will watch it again. I see some potential here, and I hope they don't blow it. YMMV.

I thought it was great, very Batman-ish in some aspects. I'll definitely keep tuning in on this one. Pretty much don't watch any shows atm except Smallville.

Surprised by the hate here... though i guess it is the Internet... so moaning is a requirement :oldrazz:

Thought The Cape was a blast... Davids was great in the first half... I LMAO at his
'death' and the way his eye opened...

Bear McCreary's score was awesome... similar to Human Target... but it worked here.

I liked the hypnotism scenes...

Yea, the show could tweak a few elements to make it better... but what show around today isn't in the same spot?

I don't usually hate. I love television and try to give things a chance. I gave NoF several chances, and heroes even more chances. the Cape I will probably stick with for a couple more episodes.

But its going to be cancelled, NBC is getting desperate. The nice thing about that is Chuck will likely be renewed again.

Went in with an open mind and didnt read much of anything spoilery or even a review, but after the first 20 minutes I kept watching the clock to see how much longer I had to endure it.

I could list a litany of issues with writing, pacing, acting, direction, dialogue, plot, etc. But I just dont care enough to exert the effort to do so, so I'll keep it brief.

This show is a mess. It's literally all over the place and doesnt seem to know who it is or what it wants to be. I felt almost no attachment to any of the characters especially the lead, who all came across as very two dimensional caricatures of standard comic book archtypes. That blame has to fall mostly on the writers/directors as I've seen all the main cast in other projects and they were all decent actors.

I didnt empathize with the Cape. Didnt understand his motivations to wanting to become a costumed hero, he just seemed to go with it. The villains in the show all seemed to be evil just to be evil. Why does Chess want a police state? Why would anyone like that even bother to control the police or want to control the prison system? When you could just as easily pay them off and at least keep up the guise of independent law enforcement. And what was the big deal about those explosives? And dont even get me started on Summer Glau's Orwell character. I literally LOL'd as she's tearing around the City picking up the Cape in her gull-wing Mercedes Benz SL. The only way she could draw more attention to herself was if she had a fireworks display shooting out of the trunk. Ugh.

Someone above made a comment about this reminding them of the Schumacher Bat films and I'd have to agree that pretty much sums it up. The premise was ridiculous, the camp, which I usually have a soft spot for, was WAY over the top, and nothing whatsoever felt even the slightest bit new or innovative. It was as if they mish-mashed aspects of Batman, Spider-man, Smallville, and Heroes together and just ran with it hoping you wouldnt notice.

You know it's bad, when my highlight of the two hours last night was the scene of the raccoon running down the street with the briefcase full of money after he somehow robbed a bank.

Also why does every hero show on NBC have to involve them at one point reading their own comic books?

Reminds me more of Mandrake the Magician than anything else. I love the show and would buy the comic books if they came out. Better than Smallville (emo Superboy) and much, much better than all those god awful shows that try to downplay superhero aspects. I would say this is even better than the 90's FLASH series.

It blew me away!
