The Cape

It just was not a good start. That said I thought Spartacus Blood and Sand had a less than stellar debut. It took a few episodes to find it’s own identity, run with it, and then become great. Same could happen here. Not likely, but I will watch and hope it does.
Ratings expectations for premium cable aren't exactly as competitive as those for network TV. I doubt The Cape will have as much of a chance as Spartacus got.

Especially premium cable, where ads aren't even the primary revenue stream. Showtime's already got your money whether you watch Spartacus or not.

I don’t know much about all of that and how it all works. Only that if show gets better people talk and when people talk more people start to tune in.

I see your point on the small margin of error though. If it is going to get turned around it better happen quickly.

Best review I saw of The Cape so far was one that said basically if your brain has an off switch, you'll probably enjoy it. Although now that I type that sentence it seems a bit back-handed....

It sucks cause now this is only gonna make it harder for other potentially great superhero shows to surface now. Networks will be too scared it'll bomb like the Cape.

Are we really going to call it a bomb after two episodes? I mean those episodes weren't amazing by any means but they weren't bad. It's fun watchable stuff which has a good chance of picking up viewers as it goes on. I think that as the show continues to progress it's story, universe and characters will evolve into something better than what we've seen. Or atleast it should if it knows whats right for it.

Honestly, I'd rather watch this than other things out there. It's nice to add a superhero show to my list of TV that isn't a cartoon or made in the 90's.

Well I mean, pilot episodes are rarely very good (except Lost's), but at the same time its not a good sign when your pilot is getting universally maligned by almost every critic and fanboy. That starts bad word of mouth and people wont watch it, so in that sense, yeah the Cape is a bomb.

Problem is the Pilot is supposed to set the tone for the entire series. When that is "meh" at best, you lose an audience.

I remember walking away from the Pilot episodes of shows like Smallville, Supernatural, Heroes, and The Walking Dead and wanting more immediately. I didnt have anything close to that with The Cape. Halfway through the first hour I wanted it to be over.

Wasn't Lone Star supposedly really good though?

I don't remember a damn thing about Lost's pilot episode apart from I found it hard to beleive he got that far into the jungle without more damage done to him so it couldn't have been that good.

Anyhow, I can't see anything astoundingly bad about it. I'd suggest it to friends who like that sort of thing. But that's me, and I would appear to be the only one who'd suggest someone else watch it in the hopes that they'd enjoy it.

Actually I constantly told people to watch Drive, Journeyman and Eli Stone and no one ever did so who knows... Man I miss Drive :csad:

I know,i was just wondering. I seem to remember Lone Star getting great word of mouth but still getting axed.

I cry myself to sleep every night over the loss of Lone Star. :csad:

So...you actually think it'll get canned after it's premiere?

That'd...be a spectacular car wreck....

All the hype since comic-con,For it to be canned after it's 2nd or 3rd episode.....Would indeed be a spectacular car wreck!

NBC, in the position it's in, doesn't have anything to replace it so it might get out what NBC ordered for episodes....if it hasn't been canned after 6 eps, will probably get to finish its episode order

I'll be very curious to see the drop in viewership for next monday's episode. I'm estimating 5 mill.

I probably made the biggest negative post a few pages back. That said, I don't think the show is reprehensible. Usually when a movie or show sucks for me, the plot is abominable and I despise the main character. On the other hand, while watching The Cape on Sunday, I thought to myself "wow, this show is dying a death of a thousand cuts."

There weren't that many big things that were extremely bad; however the show was just unfortunately subpar on so many things. Basic, little, technical things. It was very unpolished. I wish this show would be better, because I love the concept: a modern but unironic take on the Silver Age superhero. We don't have enough characters who are proud to stand up and be good role models anymore. But the show needs to execute, and it didn't do that very well in the premiere.

I think next week is make or break. Networks have canceled shows for failing to draw an audience after just 2 or 3 weeks. If The Cape[/u] comes in last in its time slot again, it'll be in trouble. And as far as I know, most shows tend to lose viewers after their premieres.

I think what would help alot is if they show embraces a somewhat tongue-in cheek humor about the absurdity of it all. I loved that scene where he met with the Mayor and he was like "Uh..you dont have a cape...no offense." I would like to see more of that kind of humor in the show. If it doesnt take itself seriously, that could go a long way.

I think it's headed down that path, with the good tongue-in cheek humor, and those were the best moments for me.

The final scene of the pilot, where the store clerk says, "The Cape?...well, hey don't worry about it. You'll work on the name."

And I liked Keith David. He's awesome.

i thought it was good, people who i know watched it also thought it was good. So im a little lost when it comes to the negativity surrounding the show. The shows seems like a real throwback kinda show and not to the 90s like some have suggested. When i think of the Cape I do not think Batman, i think its more along the lines of the Phantom, The Spirit something like that. Nbc tried to market it as if hes a superhero but hes not.

I enjoyed it...of course I had very very low expectations :D Anywho I don't think it will last long but I thought the broad premise had some potential and there were a few cool moments but I thought the main actor doesn't work and he was worry guy liner from the start which is not cool. You might could dismiss it in costume but from the jump he was wearing it ?!?!?
