Gosh considering ben Affleck is like, 80 years old, a lot of these casting suggestions are awfully young
If we are going by someone age appropriate for Batman, then we aren't really casting Catwoman. We are casting the Selina Kyle that was the madam for an escort service in Baman comic book mini-series The Dark Knight Returns
Maybe someone like Kathy Bates or Roseanne Barr or Rosie O'Donnell. Or if we want to get more ethnic, Oprah Winfrey.
Can't tell if you're serious. There's 0 chance they go for that sort of Selina.
I think the best bet is to go for a woman in her late 30s to 40s for Selina.
Add Kerry Washington and Thandie Newton to that list.
Add Gugu Mbatha-Raw to this (34). Take out Angelina Jolie as she'll never do it and it's way too on the nose (same could be said for Charlize but I could see her doing it if she was asked)
Add Paula Patton to that list for potential Selina Kyles or even Kate Beckinsale or Keri Russell
You can't deny how amazing Jolie would be though.
Lena Headey, too.
I could see her doing a good version of her but I don't think that version would fit in this universe.
No to Kate Beckinsale. She's literally been every action heroine and it's such an easy fancast.
I don't follow that at all. Jolie could easily do a version of Catwoman that's perfectly in line with the comics version. This universe that they've created is a platform for the DC characters to exist onscreen as they do in the comics. I don't agree with your assessment there.
Jolie is unlikely, but she'd be perfect, especially for this universe. She wouldn't have fit as easily in Nolan's universe though.
Jolie for Catwoman and Depp for Riddler?
Let me check the year....2008 2017...
Starting to remember why I unsubscribed from so many casting threads a few months back...
We're all just in that hamster wheel huh?
What about Alicia Vikander if they go for a younger/closer to Harley's age group?
I can just picture what the reaction would be amongst many in fandom if they did the reverse (cast a 40-something actress as Selina and a 20-smething year old as Bruce). Heck there were a lot of complaining about Amy Adams (then 37/38) being "too old" to play freaking Lois Lane, or being "too old" to be Henry Cavill's LI.
You want a Selina who's in her mid-30's for example (which would be fine). Then cast actress who's in her mid-30's, not that hard.
I realize this is a thread for The Batman movie, but I think people are putting too much emphasis on casting an actress compatible with Ben Affleck. People just seem to be getting hung up on the assumption that Catwoman
will even be in The Batman. When Gotham City Sirens will be the movie that Catwoman will most likely be a big part of. So I am thinking it will be far more important to find an actress compatible with Margot Robbie. Late 30s
to mid 40s seems way too old to be paired with the late 20s Robbie. Be curious if there were a sub-forum for Gotham City Sirens and a The Batman sub-forum didn't exist, who the casting choices would be. Still be someone
in their 40s? It's like The Batman isn't even going to be part of the DCEU and is a stand alone movie where Catwoman will only appear, so eveything about Catwoman has to fall in line with The Batman. 35 is the upper limit.
Though I think Alicia Vikander is too baby faced and waif like to be Catwoman.
Even if Catwoman is not in The Batman I still think casting a Charlize Theron type of actress is important because this is a shared universe where Batman is an older experienced Batman and I want a Catwoman that is as experienced as he is. Even if she isn't in The Batman, the character would be in a future Batman movie with Affleck for sure.
Why is it important for Catwoman and Harley Quinn to be the same age? The entire point of Harley Quinn is that she is a young woman who got corrupted/manipulated by The Joker and is still trying to find herself. Casting a young actress like Robbie was a good move for that. Why would making Catwoman the same age as her be a good move?
Yeah you need to balance the sirens out with an older catwoman imo, atleast mid to late 30s. They need someone distinguished so they arent all a bunch of 20 yr olds psinting the town red. It'd honesly be great to have selina be bruces mole on the team.
I don't know about mole, but just keeping him informed once in a while makes sense.
Quoting a post from the other(closed) thread
I agree with this. If this is gonna be about a veteran Batman, then whoever plays Catwoman should be closer to Affleck's age. Not a 20 something year old actress that's nearly young enough to be his daughter.
I mean, I thought Margot Robbie and Cara Delevingne were both too young to be playing Harley and Enchantress in Suicide Squad. The actresses were only 25 and 23(respectively) when the movie was being filmed and one was playing a character that's supposed to have a MD in psychiatry and have years of experience to even be assigned to a patient as dangerous as Joker. Meaning that she would presumably be in her early to mid-thirties at the youngest by the time she became the Joker's acolyte, which she apparently has now been for some time. And the other was playing a character that had a PHD in archaeology.
Yes, but what is done is done and if the actress they cast as Catwoman is too old then Harley Quinn is going to look like Selina's daughter instead of a BFF. In the Gotham City Sirens comic books Selina, Ivy, and Harley are roughly the same age. And just because Catwoman and Batman have had a history in other universes doesn't mean they do here. Superman and Batman were pals from the time they both started in other universes. But in the DCEU they just met even though Bruce has been Batman for years and Clark is just getting started as Superman. So if Bruce can just have met Clark, why can't Bruce also just have met Selina? Basically once canon is tossed out the window, anything is possible. If they were sticking to canon, Selina wouldn't even be Catwoman anymore. She'd be running an escort service, like in The Dark Knight Returns, which this Batman is sort of based on.
