After watching the pilot a couple of questions regarding the Centipede popped up my mind ( and it looks like others have this questions too), so I decided boldly to just create a thread to discuss a few of them.

It was left a little ambigious if Centipede was just the name of the device that gave the powers or if it was the name of an organisation that developed this device too, but Skyes description alludes to an organisation.
IF Centipede is the name of the organisation, the ones that founded the research or just used the female doctor in the pilot for their plans, there is still the question if Centipede is their real name or (since there is no such organisation in the comicsverse) just a cover up for a different group of people (AIM, HYDRA, ZODIAC, THE HAND etc.).
The female doc had no problem to hire a hitmen in just a handful of minutes, so I guess there is definatly somewhere involved that helped her with that (since I guess for common people it is rather hard to find a professional killer in such a short time span. on the other hand, I never tried, maybe it is pretty easy) or said hitman worked with her already together as part of the Centipede.
All in all, the Centipede is a very interesting and mysterious subject, which I guess we will learn more about this season. (unless of course, it was just the name of the device, but again, it didn't sound that way when Skye talked about it)

The device definitely. It was shaped like a centipede and since Extremis was brainchilded by AIM, I'm assuming they are behind the funding of it.

I figured it was just the name of the device, and yeah as the others have said there's no doubt that AIM/HYDRA are behind it

While not guaranteed, this would be great. I would love to see AIM live on through this show.

Oh, and I assumed centipede was just the name of the device as well.

Is there any similar device/project in the comics?

The Centipede device reminded me of Spider-Man 2's Doc Ock.

I've mentioned on other threads that I doubt AIM is behind it. AIM already has mature Extremis, which is better than this Centipede doohickey in pretty much every way. This looks a lot more like someone with incomplete access to a bunch of stuff throwing together all the knock offs they can concoct into a can and seeing what happens.

Agreed. And the outfit that gave Peterson the "Centipede" device didn't act professional at all.

AIM is a legitimate business in the MCU. It's just that their main product, Extremis, is volatile, and they don't inform the buyer that he can, you know, blow up and **** if he stresses out too much.

So odds are, somebody who's had access to Extremis --- and Chitauri tech and the serum --- tried to mix it all together to see what comes out. That *could* still be an AIM project, but again, since AIM is an actual business, you'd expect to see Peterson dealing with that instead of some fly-by-night "doctors" operating out of the back of a truck or something.

Extremis might not be better than the stuff Dr. Feelbad pumped into poor Mike. As Simmons said, they put a every chemical known to confer super powers into an alien device and cranked people up. Mike was pretty damned strong and extremely durable. He barely reacted to a shotgun blast to the shoulder and shook off a fall of a couple of stories in the train station, for instance. Despite the possibility of spontaneous explosion he wasn't throwing off heat constantly like the Extremis subjects.

If Fitz/Simmons' fix managed to stabilize Mike so that he's no longer explosive, I'd love to see him come back and join Coulson's team. His powers are useful but wouldn't require much in the way of CGI. Even with powers, Mike is very much an Everyman, trying to figure out how to do the most good in the world.

The Marvel Wiki now says Project Centipede, which would Centipede make the name of 'a secret project designed to give people superpowers', not the device itself

In the Girl in the Flower Dress episode, Skye's ex-bf said he sent the data to some ecological research group dealing with centipedes. So it seems to refer to the group now.

Since they have access to Extremis, I consider them likely to be an AIM splinter group.
