I would like to take a moment to personally welcome these two 1927 masterpieces to the Public Domain:

    Fritz Lang's Metropolis and

Alfred Hitchcock's The Lodger: A Story of The London Fog. Two of my absolute faves of the silent era, in the year that marked that era's swan song. :hrt:

Honorable mention to F.W. Murnau's Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, the movie that truly affirmed my growing belief that "romance" is bulls***. :o

I really need to watch The Lodger: A Story of The London Fog. It's been missing in my Hitchcock classics. Thanks for reminding me, flickchick85.

I know Sam Esmail is working on a Metropolis series but I can totally imagine Denis Villeneuve taking on a movie remake.

I'm going to watch Tár at some point this weekend, which I thought was going to be pretty much it for me with 2022 films for a while, but I see She Said is now streaming on Peacock. Might be too tempting to pass up.

They're both pretty good but Tar is easily better mostly because of Cate's performance.

I don't know if anyone here collect vinyls but I'm starting to get a decent collection on the soundtrack side.

I still need the soundtrack to LOTR and I don't know when they'll release those.

So I watched Amsterdam. I'm honestly in awe of how bad it was.

At least we can finally put the David O. Russell art v. artist debate to bed now that he's making movies that are as trash as he is as a human.

Tár was better but I enjoyed She Said more. For as long as Tár was
I didn't think enough time was spent on her downfall at the end and it ended a bit too abruptly. Funny enough, I had no idea what Tár was about going into it other than it being about a conductor so I unwittingly had a "Consequences of one's actions lead to their downfall" double feature with the two films.

Regardless, Blanchett was a powerhouse. As much as I want to see Michelle Yeoh win for Everything Everywhere I think the Oscar is Blanchett's to lose.

I’ve been digging into Pedro Almodovar’s movies and I’ve really liked all of them so far. He and Antonio Banderas always seem to be collaborating and Banderas is giving the best performances I’ve seen from him.

Yeah, Banderas has never been better in these past few years from his work in Spain. Really love him in Official Competition which kinda feels like an unofficial Almodovar movie considering it's got Banderas and Cruz working together.

That was my problem too, I didn't really care for the first hour of it but I was pulled in the moment she goes to Juilliard.

Just waiting for the reviews to come in on The Devil Conspiracy to confirm just how bad of a movie I am going to pay money to see.

My thoughts on Tár are about the same. Brilliance by Blanchett and inarguably very well made, but it just didn't land for me. Abstract is not a substitute for depth, and far too many filmmakers use it that way these days. Tár never fully commits to what sort of movie it wants to be, and suffers for it, IMO. I won't begrudge it the inevitable noms it will rack up, but I don't expect it to make any of my lists save Lead Actress and Sound.

Damnit Fathom Events, you gotta warn people that you use Candace Cameron Bure in your big promotional trailer before the stuff you show.

I really wish there was a better alternative for some of the stuff they do. Because I feel bad for supporting Fathom for some of the **** they show.

Sunrise was one of the movies in BFI’s “Top Ten of All Time” that I had not seen. So it was on my bucket list. In terms of narrative, the film is dated, simplistic and — typical of the silent era — hyper-melodramatic (not to mention sexist and misogynistic :ebr:). But emotionally and visually, Sunrise is quite amazing: engaging, weird and haunting. Definitely worth a watch.

I'd have actually given Gibson credit if he recast the other Looney Toon Caviezel with a Middle Eastern actor to play Jesus.
