The Civil War Thread Was In The Amazon With My Mom Researching Spiders Right Before She Died

I actually heard it in person... at work. lol

Apparently according to my co-worker, if a movie doesn't have a "reason for the season" message, it doesn't count as a Christmas movie.

But I wanted to answer her back with "If knocking tf out a reindeer and being trapped in a Bruce Lee movie surrounded by shady Santa Clauses isn't a Christmas movie, then I don't know what is."

Yeah bro, your co-worker must be stopped lol.

Like did she miss the part where Ahnuld and his family learn that it's not about having the Turbo Man toy, it's about loving your family for who they are?

I bet she wears glasses lol.

Jingle All The Way is about consumerism and commercialism, nothing more Christmasy than that. :o

Kidding aside, I hope you brought up to them that the "reason for the season" message was right there with Arnold's kid giving the Turbo Man to Sinbad at the end.

But for real, Batman Returns is definitely a Christmas movie.

Okay Batman blows up a circus thug, but whatever, it's still a movie about loving someone pass their mental breakdown, and about being accepted and loved by your circus gang/emperor penguin family.

It's right up there with Home Alone.

Die Hard isn't a christmas movie. (Neither is Sound of Music, btw).

I'm agnostic on Returns because I don't remember it well enough to judge without rewatching.

JAtW is a bog standard christmas movie, just of the more unpleasant branch of christmas movies that tend not to hold up well to repeat viewings.

Rebuttal:

-When Argyle is driving John McLane to the Christmas party, “Christmas in Hollis” is playing on the radio.

-“Ode to Joy“, which is very much associated with Christmas, is practically baked into the DNA of the Michael Kamen’s score for the film and is played so many times it’s ridiculous.

-John McLane putting Tony in the Santa outfit in the elevator with the writing, “Now I have a machine gun, ho ho ho.”

-Hans Gruber saying “It's Christmas, Theo. It's the time of miracles. So be of good cheer... and call me when you hit the last lock.”

-“Peace on earth, goodwill toward men”. John and Al helping each other out and stopping Hans and his men and finally bringing peace to the night.

- “Let It Snow” playing at the very end into the credits.

And those are the ones I can just name off the top of my head. I’m sure I’m probably missing even more.

There are so many things pointing to it being a Christmas movie that the only way it would be even more of a Christmas film is if Santa himself crashed straight into the building and rammed and impaled one of the goons on one of his reindeer’s antlers. :funny:

Being set at a christmas party or using christmas music, sweaters, etc doesn't make something a christmas movie. Die Hard is a movie about Bruce Willis beating the crap out of thugs which happens to have some random christmas stuff in the background. That's all.

The studios don’t like making big budget movies about or to a lesser extent featuring holidays anymore in fear of alienating people, including audiences outside the United States who may or may not recognize holidays, unfortunately. Which leads to more generalized blandness. Even if you’re atheist it can still be in theory interesting or fun to exploit the mythology of active and historical religions in new fiction. You can have different extremes from Christmas or Thanksgiving movies like Charlie Brown/Peanuts specials or on the opposite end, stuff like the Passion of the Christ (Gibson) or Noah (Aronofsky) which offends one group while being celebrated by another.

Ha! My husband was watching Die Hard just yesterday. I've seen it so many times I almost know it line for line and I still love it.

It's funny to me there are always debates about Die Hard being a Christmas movie, but not the first Lethal Weapon. They're both 80s action movies with cops as the main protagonists taking on criminals well above their pay grade in Los Angeles during the Christmas season.
Lethal Weapon just opens up a Shane Black rabbit hole with Christmas. On that note, Iron Man 3 has just about as much Christmas stuff going on in it as Batman Returns.

How do we know for sure that they're trying to throw DaCosta under the bus exactly?

The attempts to throw DaCosta under the bus are ****ing embarrassing and shameful.

All of these bulls*** narratives being made about her, really makes my blood boil. She really deserves more than this.
I'm taking solace in the hope that this smear campaign isn't going anywhere. Nobody is blaming the box office performance of The Marvels on her.

Big  to Hoult as Luthor if that casting is true.

Just heard about Hoult as Lex! Not my no.1 choice but I think he can be great if given the right material, which I think he will be here.
I like him a lot so I'm willing to risk it. :D

It feels like there is some weird behind the scenes drama going on with this movie. All the "reports" of Brie being a diva, when all cast interactions we've seen have been them being friendly. The hit pieces on DaCosta. Part of me almost feels like there is some ally of Perlemuter that is trying to burn this movie.

How do we know for sure that they're trying to throw DaCosta under the bus exactly?

There have been a lot of strange negative "sources" about this movie.

The Hoult as Lex news has me conflicted.

I don’t know whether it’s because he’s been Beast so long that I can’t picture him as Lex, or if it’s I don’t trust Lex in the writing hands of Gunn.

But then again if Gunn gives Lex the same energy he gave the High Evolutionary, then I’ll be pleased.

I wouldn't worry about him as Beast anymore than I'd worry about Pattinson being in Twilight. Both actors have proven themselves outside of that in far better roles. I don't think we'll get any bland, unexciting characters with Gunn. The danger is him going over the top.
