What did everyone think of the costumes of Aquaman along with how some of those looks changed between Scott Snyders imagination and James Wans imagination.

The costumes here were MUCH better. The ones in JL looked clunky and basic at the same time

Yep, Snyder make them look cheap, lifeless, Wan and his team did it GREAT

This is where my opinion is different. While I love James Wan's Aquaman, I'm not naive. There's pro's and cons on both sides, however I still like Zack Snyder's vision better.

What I love about Zack's vision is that the colors look more natural. While the sea is beautiful and colorful, objects that have been below the sea for years look more rustic. So having a rustic look to the outfits makes a lot more sense to me than clean shiny ones. There is also a lot more originality in Zack's suits and I love how it embraced Jason's culture and gave Aquaman more personality. I still and will always feel that James dropped the ball with that and its a tad disappointing. Some of James's designs feel a bit more like copy and paste and was a bit too safe for my taste.

However, There are things that I love about James' vision. I love iridescent like paint used in the outfits. I really wish it was more prominent so that you can see the colors changing more. Though James' outfits lacked some originality, they weren't over designed like Zack's. I felt as though there was way too much going on with Zack's design's that just ended up getting lost on screen. I'm still discovering things about them. Huge props to James for his Manta design. I seriously doubt that Zack, if given the opportunity, would have pulled that off. Not even close. I'm not sure what designs Zack would have come up with for the other kingdoms, though I think James did a fantastic Job with them.

I'd really love a combination of the two, because I love things about both designs. If James simplified some of Zack's designs, kept the more ancient rustic look and added the paint effects along with the futuristic elements, that would have absolutely hit the mark for me. I just really hope James puts the tribal designs back into Aquaman's suit in the next film at least, because the "classic suit" is just so boring.

Holy s*** you just reminded me how similar the patterns of his JL armor was to the local rugby team the Chiefs, and our province's basically the home of Maori, which is like, where Jason learnt his haka stuff.

This edition of the jersey (also applied to other provinces with their own cultural patterns) emphasized more on the cultural symbols than other versions.

Wife thought the AM costume looked very "bling bling" which wasn't a criticism, and she thought that's how AM was the joke in US, and I said the original jersey was orange and green and she's like huh.....

Anyway I Zack/Wilkinson didn't want to do the classics for AM and Flash and left them to the directors, so the James' version is better by default, though now I know, I really appreciate the cultural effort they put in for the JL armor.

I like Mera's JL suit better, I think it'd work if she wears the armor for huge battles and Mermaid costume for normal outings, they'd compliment each other well.

Plus the new Mera suit looks sore to wear, and if Zack designed that, he'd be called out for not respecting women etc by some loud crazies.

The Manta and sidekick warriors looked good, and Orm was incredible.

Nicole Kidman's alternate suit looked awesome as well =P

I'll say this, Wan makes incredibly believable
dinosaurs
, if they ever wanna reboot the J
urassic Park
series, he'd be the man (he'd own the horror element as well). He'd probably make an incredible GLC or Krypton movie as well

Wan's suits have that "aquatic" aesthetic which JL costumes (Arthur, Mera, Atlantean soldiers) lacked.

I have to slightly disagree with this. You can see plenty of aquatic inspiration in the Atlantean armor during the war in JL. There's also the tribal designs that have significant meaning in water tribes. Though, that was the armor of the Atlanteans before the fall. Then we only had a very small glimpse of the modern Atlanteans, which still had aquatic elements in them. The big difference between Zack's and James' designs is that Zack's costumes felt ancient like they've been around for thousands of years.

My interpretation was that Atlanteans partially modeled their armor after ancient sea dragons. Mera seems to have what looks like armored seaweed on her suit. Aquaman's "trident" resembled armored fish bone. We also never had an official look at Vulko.

I guess its just a matter of perspective though. We only saw the Atlantean armor in JL and not the modern Atlantean attire as well. James had a lot more to work with, yet the designs were a bit too clean and simplistic for me. Consider this. Zack's designs resemble the bottom of the sea while James' designs resemble the ocean marine.

the questions is, the soldiers in JL are from atlantis or Xebel? because the xebel look in this movie are more ancient, e atlantis looks more advanced.

LOL Snyder hate parade out in full force. That aside, Wan translated them all very well. I prefer Snyder's Mera costume, but i understand why the went with simpler version as she'd be in it much more than JL

Costumes were a 10/10 in this movie. I loved some of the really obscure stuff like Mera's jellyfish dress. It was like something you would wear to the Met Gala if it took place in another dimension. Aquaman, Manta and Ocean Master's costumes were damn near perfect comic-to-film translations. Wan and his costume designer especially deserve credit for the Aquaman suit, as that costume has been among the most ridiculed superhero suits of all time, and somehow they managed to turn it into one of the best superhero movie costumes I've ever seen. THAT is talent. It's much better than that hacky green nightmare he wore in Justice League with those weird pectoral plates that moved separately from the lower half of his chestplate (and before I get accused of just hating on Snyder here, let me clarify that I love his designs for Superman and Wonder Woman). I did like Mera's look in JL slightly better, though her look here is still great.
