The Daily Beast decides to out closeted athletes at the Olympics

Someone or someones needs the **** kicked out of them for doing this.

Their objective was to be asshats to people just trying to represent their country.

The writer and whoever signed off on this needs to be fired immediately. This is insanity, who would think his was okay? Also it seems it was also quite liberal with the LGBT stereotypes.

They did it for the clicks and ad revenue. I doubt most of them are even accurate.

Guys a scumbag though. There's places around the world that can get people killed for admitting they're gay. This ****er did it for some quick money.

If that guy found himself in the worst favela and mysteriously disappeared, I think the world would be a better place.

This is one of the worst things you can possibly do to a gay person. That is an intensely personal decision that needs to be done when and if the person feels ready, not by anyone else, let alone some D-list sleazy tabloid looking for publicity.

Also, some of these athletes hail from countries where you can literally be imprisoned or executed for being gay.

Or at the very least their intolerant country could bar them from representing their country in future olympics games.

This is despicable. He could be responsible for multiple deaths because of this.

When I first read the title of this thread I thought it was in reference to American athletes and I thought, "Well, that sucks," but then I saw he outed athletes from intensely homophobic countries and I realized he's a monumental piece of ****. He ought to be held criminally and civilly responsible for anything that happens to these people as a result of his article.

Horrifying.

Grindr is not a place for straight people. They are not welcome to treat us like animals at a zoo

I smell termination in his future.

EDIT: I'm now seeing the comments defending this stunt and they are just as bad as I feared.

Yeah, as homophobic as some may be here, they will straight up murder you for being gay in some other parts of the world and no one would bat an eye.

It was supposedly appallingly easy to identify the athletes he met in his original article because he listed their heights, weights, and what events they were competing in. I hope the internet's resident trolls didn't get a hold of this info, because I could see some ********s turning these poor guys into their own governments just for funsies.

A retraction is meaningless as the information is already out there. This guy must have known or just not cared how damaging his "article" was and missed an entire course on journalistic ethics. That kind of flagrant reporting is going to get people jailed or beaten if not killed because of his actions.

He knew. He just thought gossip would get him page clicks and nothing else matters.

If a single life is put in danger because of this he needs to be arrested immediately

Let me guess... straight people who would probably throw a goddamn fit if their credit card info was stolen? :o

D*ck move, but US tabloids try to out celebrities all the time and usually have the incriminating photos to back it up.

Some BS about how Daily Beast censoring the names and removing the article goes against the first amendment and the liberal media playing the victim card when these "deviants get what they deserved" for if it were a conservative being outed it would be plastered all over the news. Then of course they are Trump supporters and attacked anyone who disagreed and claimed that any opposing side were Hilary supporters that want a president who endangered lives with the email scandal and thus this is not a big deal compared to that. :whatever:

Arrested for what?

What he did was unethical, what he did was utterly disgusting and beyond irresponsible, but he didn't commit any crimes. He deserves to lose his job and never work as a journalist again.

Yeah, those poor victimized conservatives. Because an athlete (perhaps with no open political leanings) from a violently anti-gay part of the world being forced out is totally the same as a supposed freedom-loving patriot that regularly pushes legislation designed to hurt or undermine the lives of gay people being forced out. Totally the same.

And, either way, I've seen a few articles, one of gay writers turning on Grindr at the RNC and another talking to male escorts about how much business they got when the RNC was in town, and neither named names.

Who the hell ok's something like this? What accounts for journalism these days is mind blowing.

If his actions lead to people getting killed then he should be held responsible for that. His heterosexuality and his ignorance arent good enough reasons for him to avoid consequences for people getting hurt

Does his sexuality really matter? Would you be defending him or just as angry had he been a gay man? His irresponsibility has nothing to do with orientation.

And what crime are you going to charge him with exactly? He accessed information that the Olympians made public on the app. The guy is scum, but he didn't break any laws. Nobody is saying he shouldn't be charged because of his ignorance, he shouldn't be charged with any crimes because...well no crime was committed.
