The Daily Planet - Superman: Legacy News and Speculation Thread

Joe-El is an edge lord.

So, nearly everyone here is a Zod/prefers the color blue (my-Ak-Zod-self included).
Interesting. Sort of. But not really. :o

Looks like the strike could be coming to an end - an agreement has been proposed with voting on Tuesday.
Fingers crossed that this is the end and everyone can move on - hopefully we’ll be getting some news on Legacy soon.

The writers’ strike at least. There has yet to be any negotiations with the actors thus far. Hopefully that’s the immediate next step for the AMPTP.

I'd be stunned if they let the SAG strike carry on past October. Assuming things get resolved by then, I guess it really depends on how quickly Gunn can cast the rest of the film if he still wants to start production in January.

SAG will use the WGA terms as a baseline. Tbe AMTMP will have to bend over fast.

Don Zod has declared it!!!:res: :o

How exciting to think we might get some movement soon once it’s resolved. Hopefully the extra time has given Gunn a chance to polish the script

Gunn would have been forbidden from working on the script during the strike...

So if the Actors agree to a deal before November will Batman 2 and Superman Legacy still make their opening dates in 2025?

Who would stop him, though?

Not like the WGA is keeping his laptop under surveillance or what.
With that line of thinking, what's to stop any of the writers from doing that? Besides I imagine Gunn (being head of the studio) has plenty to do to keep himself busy besides writing a script for the last 4 months.

If the rumor was ever true to begin with, I wonder if we'll hear that Skyler Gisondo had been cast as Jimmy not long after the SAG strike ends.

Yeah, I think Gisondo has that in the bag. And Legacy was gearing up for a Jan shoot so if SAG goes through early Oct, they should be able to get going. All the other departments have been working if I'm not mistaken, costume, production, etc etc. We don't know about the script for Part II yet so we'll have to wait. The Oct 2025 release should be fine if it shoots by Spring of next year.

I believe pre-production has been moving full-steam ahead this whole time, save for what they need from the actors for the costumes and whatnot, so I’ll be a bit surprised if this gets delayed at all tbh, as long as the AMPTP makes a deal with SAG within the next few weeks.

Pre-production never stopped and costume fittings were done as that doesn't go against SAG Strike regulations.

Worst case the start of filming might push back a few weeks to March at the latest. Regardless, they're fine.

The memo SAG-AFTRA sent out at the top of the strike said wardrobe and make-up tests were indeed against the rules, but maybe fittings were a loophole, idk. All I know is, they would've been foolish not to take measurements and digital scans as soon as they were cast knowing full well a strike was looming (they had a couple weeks, and I'm sure they used them), and the majority of pre-production work otherwise doesn't need the actors at all, so yeah, I don't think there's much that's held them up in the grand scheme. This movie's production really lucked out in terms of the timing with the strikes - the script was locked in before the strikes, they got their main casting in, and it wasn't set to start filming 'til (probably) a few months after. They probably couldn't have asked for better timing, honestly.

I think this is exactly why Gunn and co. prioritized casting the heroes as their suits will take longer, presumably the remaining roles to be cast will be mostly civilians that won't be wearing supherhero suits.

Eh, lots of movies could come out earlier than they're released. They want that sweet, sexy summer slot for a reason. A long post is also probably healthy for a massively VFX project like this.

No I mean 10 months sounds too insane in the sense that it doesn't seem enough lol For a Superman movie I'd expect at least 12 months of post. I mean, The Batman which needed way less VFX than this will had 12.
