The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨SPOILERS🚨)

I don't think it's so much that people have given up on Supes, it's more that...Superman hasn't returned! We thought he might in SR but we didn't get Superman!...MOS.... Not Superman! (Not trying to cause trouble, I just mean the general public) ... I think people have been waiting for The Superman! The one that people of all ages and understanding of Supes will recognise and I god damn hope that's what Gunn delivers.

Y’all are choosing really on-the-nose stuff and I just don’t see Gunn going for any of that.

That said, that trailer mix of “My Hero” gave me chills. Some trailer really should pay those people and use that lol.
I'm wondering if that might be a bit too Dark Epic Action Movie for this particular movie depending on the tone it's going for but I would lose my goddamn mind at that remix in a Superman trailer. Good God.

So what...you wanna hear Batdance in it or something :zany: :o

When I was a kid I did a dance number in a play to this song, while dressed as Spider-man 😅
I’ve always said that Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out for a Hero is the audio equivalent of a cocaine high. Wall to wall drum solos and blaring horns while Bonnie’s vocals begin as shouts and descend into screams.

Love it! It is on every running/workout playlist I’ve ever put together.

Lol my guess was "Starman" -- yes, it's obvious. I didn't say it was a good guess.

Gunn has yet to disappoint when it comes to needle-drop song choices. We'll see....

I think it strikes just the right balance of being just cool enough without being edgy, and positive without being too sappy. Also, the song is basically about looking up to ordinary people as heroes, which is kind of what Superman stands for and the kind of message he would promote and example he himself would set, so it would fit nicely.

It’s basically saying, “See, being hopeful and optimistic is cool“, which is honestly the kind of messaging we need in these dark times when those kinds of values are seen as weak and pitiful by the kinds of people that voted in to office those that share their disdain for anything right and moral.

Even though this Superman movie has an uphill battle in many ways, it will benefit greatly from being a "classic" superhero movie and not the overstuffed multiverse/cosmic stuff that Marvel has been putting on lately. The genre is in desperate need of a back-to-basics approach.

I'm a Marvel guy, but just thinking about the gap of quality between The Marvels and The Batman, there's just no contest.

Thinking along the lines of something rock related, I found this concept the other day made by a trailer music company:

Now, whether or not they’ll actually use some version of this song in the trailer, I don’t know, but I imagine this is probably the sort of vibe they’ll probably be going for. They definitely need to come out swinging and go all in and really grab audiences’ attention.

Hearing something along these lines would definitely get me hyped for sure.

When I saw "My Hero", I gotta admit, I rolled my eyes given the obviousness and how overused it was in 2000s movie trailers and TV spots. But that remix was something special. Good shout, Still Wynning.

Now FC, you better not be including me in that "on-the-nose" description. The songs I chose are deep cuts. Not like I suggested Carry On Wayward Son or something.

I had the same reaction as you, but I decided to actually give it a listen, and I was like, “Well, s**t, that’s actually pretty f***king good!”, and I can’t get it out of my head. :hehe:

Now I’ll be bummed if they don’t end up using it.

Oh please not let Foo Fighters be Superman's Nirvana!

About this remix of “My hero”, it's sure really well done, energetic and it would definitely fit quite well with the expected mood... but, without wishing to knock the song (which can probably and rightfully be considered a classic), it would still seem to me as a bit... uninspired? Or, to be less harsh, “too easy”.

I understand that the primary goal of this trailer is to get people hyped, and that it's therefore safe to go for a federative musical backdrop, but I'm sure there's something else to be found that would accomplish the same role but be more surprising.

I haven't found it though! 😅

------

Speaking of music, I'm randomly stumbling across several of John Murphy's past works on Spotify these days, and while I understood that he wasn't the unanimous choice to soundtrack this new Superman, I think there's definitely a potential to have something 'quite new and fresh...
Assuming he doesn't try to do his version of the traditional orchestral heroic march.

Aim for the bushes?

Too bad Eric Clapton is a political weirdo, because I spent years thinking "Change the world" was a perfect Superman song.

Yeah, as a guitar player, was a huge fan for years. Then he went all crazy anti-vax/pro RFK Jr. and I couldn’t even listen to him anymore. Then I read some of the really racist **** he said at a concert early on in his career and I realized he’s always been a piece of human garbage.
