The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨SPOILERS🚨)

Its actually the richest and wealthiest bad guys who have the most fragile egos. Look at Trump and Musk.

Its the same reason Joker is so obsessed with Batman. Batman is dressed as a scary demonic creature and is dark and brooding and takes life so seriously. That is everything Joker is not. Batman gets under his skin in a way no one else can, because no one else can challenge him.

Superman is the only one that can get under Lex's skin, because Superman is pure of heart and a genuine good guy. Lex can't fathom someone with that kind of power would be that pure. Lex can't buy Superman, and he can't kill him, and there is no one in Metropolis that is as big of a threat to Lex's power as Superman is. Like with Joker and Batman, they are each other's opposite number.
Honestly I was thinking fairly recently about Musk. He does have a huge ego and is very insecure. Seems to have possible narcissistic traits as well. He buys Twitter because he was pissed off what the media was saying about him, even though he claimed that he was protecting freedom of speech. I doubted that though.

Luthor, a fictional character always tries to do great things, much like Musk does with Tesla and Space X. Ironically though, John Byrne's Lex Luthor was inspired by Trump.

I think it’ll also come down to how long David’s Superman has been at it. Flag Sr. put the events of TSS at about two years ago. If this Superman has been on the job 2+ years, it’s possible. Any more recent arrival on the scene, then probably not.
It's not even worth the effort, IMO, unless James has another good story to tell with Bloodsport, particularly one that involves David's Superman.

That said, if he really wants to make it canon, enough groundwork has been laid.

Actually I forgot to mention to posts prior and this is just my speculation. If Ultraman is involved, or it's Bizarro or whomever, it sounds like maybe Luthor's plan might be to try and frame Superman, so that the rest of the world fears him? Would make a good plot and it sounds like something Lex would do. Then Lex can look like the bigger hero by fighting Superman in his prometheus suit.

It sounds pretty similar to what was done in BvS if you ask me.

Yeah this is the problem I am having with this possible plot, maybe it will be dealt with sooner than we think and Supes spends more time earning the peoples trust back by showing how great he is.

I want this Lex to not only be a CEO worth several billion dollars, but he has a Tony Stark level of intelligence.
He invents things out of boredom, ie, engines that run on water, cures for cancers, etc, and locks them away for a rainy day.

Inventing and tinkering is his way of blowing off steam.

I can imagine a scene of Lois or someone interviewing him as he walks past all these different contraptions and what not as he smugly talks about them, he might already have the cure the cancer but he would say that he is only a few years away from it being available and it will be affordable for everyone to play the good guy...even though Lois knows he is a d!ck

Yeah that Byrne era is just full of so much gold. Why they haven’t tried to adapt it before I’ll never know. Well they kind of tried but also didn’t try it that makes sense

Yeah the “don’t make it political” crowd is going to really struggle with Lex because there’s no way to adapt him without making him a Trump or Musk allegory

However, the key difference of them to Lex is his rags to riches story.

From the latest Heat Vision newsletter

It's a busy time for Gunn, who recently wrapped on Peacemaker season two and has been screening Superman in its unfinished, still deep-in- post form.

We've heard from multiple sources about one screening in particular, on the lot and with his close-knit crew of people he trusts. We're keeping the buzz about the movie itself in our own Fortress of Solitude, but we can tell you that the movie will be doing a few days of additional shooting in Los Angeles in the near term.

Update:

my guess is that it’s probably Supergirl’s scenes now that her movie is almost finished with pre-production, they have her characterization set and most likely also already made the suit.

As per Gunn, it's just a day and a half of "pickup shots" to enhance the movie. I updated my previous post.

Has that always been the case? I didn't think Lex was rags to riches I figured he comes from money and then turned it into even more.

The only versions of Lex to be born rich are Smallville and the DCEU, Lex is self-made in the comics and I believe the DCAU too.

Loved the recent interview with James Gunn. I think he may have won a few sour grapes over with it as well.

Nicholas Hoult’s birthday, could Gunn post something with him in costume today like he did with Jimmy Olsen?

Betting time.

When does everyone think the Superman trailer will be online?

I'd say in rougly two weeks. It'll probably be online just in time for the new episode of the new DC Studios Showcase podcast, and before it'll debut in theaters with either Mufasa or Sonic 3 (or both).

Or there's gonna be a surprise panel at CCXP and we'll get the trailer this weekend. Which is a dreamer's option, but seems unlikely.

December 18 at noon eastern time. What is the prize if I win? 😉 :woozy: :halo:

I'm not super looking forward to the holidays this year, so if it dropped on Xmas Day, that'd probably make my day. :awesome:
