The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨SPOILERS🚨)

I'm not super looking forward to the holidays this year, so if it dropped on Xmas Day, that'd probably make my day. :awesome:
Sorry buddy, I hope they’re better than you are expecting. Sending good vibes to you and your loved ones

Nicholas Hoult’s birthday, could Gunn post something with him in costume today like he did with Jimmy Olsen?
I don’t think he would coordinate something around his birthday but it would be very Lex if all people could talk about on his birthday was Superman

Betting time.

When does everyone think the Superman trailer will be online?

I'd say in rougly two weeks. It'll probably be online just in time for the new episode of the new DC Studios Showcase podcast, and before it'll debut in theaters with either Mufasa or Sonic 3 (or both).

Or there's gonna be a surprise panel at CCXP and we'll get the trailer this weekend. Which is a dreamer's option, but seems unlikely.
I'm a dreamer.

A hopeful dreamer...

That's kind of you. It's nothing serious, just a lot of work-related stress, expenses and a semi-fragmented family this year. But still, whose Christmas wouldn't be made better with a Super-trailer?

Idc what anyone says, Cage would have been an amazing Superman. I loved how he looked in the suit.

I always thought Stallone would be a good Superman at least from a visual perspective too. His voice is so wrong but he looks a lot like 90s Superman.

Donuts - who are you haha, you have to be a previously banned user. Not that I care, but you’ve got all the signs. If you admit it, I won’t tell nobody- snitches get stitches
There is no reason for me to get banned.

I'm Batman.

December 18 at noon eastern time. What is the prize if I win? 😉 :woozy: :halo:
Just the trailer.

Yeah no. Cage is nothing like Clark, looks nothing like Superman and would sound like an idiot even trying. And I LOVE Nic Cage!

He would be a much better villain.

Cage would have been a greater tragedy than both the mediocre Welling and the dull Cavill, combined. Maybe as Lex or another villain, but no, no and NO

At this point, I really wouldn’t be surprised if Gunn drops it on the 25th with a simple “Merry Christmas!” caption.

I imagined Gunn would drop the trailer at the end of Creatures Commado, but I realize the series will stretch into January, right?

I still think it'll happen before Christmas.
DC Films doesn't really have any news otherwise, and I suppose any excuse to boost comic book and goodie sales before the holidays never hurts... :o

I could see cage as vandal savage.

Completely agree that Cage would have been an amazing, outside the box choice that completely captured the characters essence while avoiding every single obvious cliche. He'd have been an absolutely peak Clark Kent and such a fascinating Superman. Pity the movie he was in was going to be hot sweaty garbage.

Cannot get behind Stallone as Supes though. That is a bridge too far.

Burton was a decade late on this casting because I can see it in an out of the box way.

Yeah, physically if the Superman Look is super important to you I totally get why it'd be an unacceptable choice. But for me there's such a profound authenticity and sincerity to Cage that makes it obvious he could nail Superman's soul and compassion as well as his more... Particular Cage-isms being a really fun match for a quirkier Clark Kent. Especially if you were to do a middle ground between the comedic Donner Clark and post-crisis Clark (which, as an aside, feels ideal to me and I really get the sense that is what Gunn is doing - Clark being totally a joke feels outdated but standard post-crisis Clark can be really boring sometimes, imo).

Burton is the guy who cast Michael Keaton as Batman. Cage as Superman is very much in line with that. Their Batman and Superman could easily exist in the same universe. I actually buy the Cage Superman being in the Batman 89/Returns universe far more than I could buy Christopher Reeve Superman being in the same universe as Keaton's Batman.
