The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨SPOILERS🚨)

Sorry but I disagree. The majority of the people watching the Puppy Bowl are going to be people not part of any fandom...to them this was a sneak peak as they likely either didn't see or forgot the trailer. It is not Gunn's fault a bunch of people on Youtube and message boards expected more. We weren't promised more and outside of (fake) insiders no one was really even hinting at more. He literally gave us everything he said he would.

We'll agree to disagree there, only because it was the studio who single handily brought back the Puppy Bowl out of complete nowhere, as it was only used to promote Superman and the idea of Krypto. The audience very well was directed towards comic book movie fans where the event even had a winner in the vein of a "Krypto" reward, so the entire premise for bringing it back was entirely Superman film related. In the end, it was probably only created by the studio knowing they were never going to have a spot at the Super Bowl, but wanted a tiny presence somewhere on Super Bowl Sunday, so they seemed to do it just to appease the fans on a day where every other big tentpole film was going to be shown. Regardless, it ended up being a give or take presence.

Yeah, nobody is really supposed to like Guy. He is that character by nature and design to be a punk where you want nothing more than to see him get punched in the face lol. He will be a quirky comic relief casting, but I can see him having a solid arc, especially if Lanterns is a hit.

But at the end of the day, Guy will come in clutch for people. He's a punk/jerk/a-hole/etc... but he will still do the right thing when it matters.

They've been doing the Puppy Bowl for years. The Puppy Bowl had like 12M watchers last year. Its also been a charity for quite a while I think.

Guy might be the most comic accurate character in the movie. I know a big Green Lantern fan who is in his late 50s and just by watching the first trailer he believes Nathan/Gunn has Guy to a tee. He told me Guy is a “Richard” with so much heart. That he might end up being the most like/hated character in the movie.

This is giving me Superman Returns merchandising vibes, which I am digging. Same color scheme and similar design choices.

Bring it on!
I still have several of my SR figures I bought from back then.

I started getting into collecting into my early 30's. SR merchandise is one I've continued to add to my collection over the years. I have almost all of the SR figures. That Mongul figure still eludes me.

I wish I had purchased more when the movie came out. I definitely wish I kept the more novelty items like the cereal and soft drinks. Unfortunately being a broke college kid at the time, I definitely never expected to be paying so much on eBay years later collecting this stuff.

For some reason, I thought they did away with the Puppy Bowl so I may have got it mixed up with something else or I probably haven't been paying attention to that feed. Reading most of the articles, they made it sound like WB was bringing it back in some capacity, so I stand corrected in that regard.

That's awesome. We would get along. Finding real life collector friends is hard, lol. I have been turning my Superman collection into a Fortress of Solitude for well over a year now. I've been collecting Superman since a kid in the 90's, but started high end figure and statue collecting around 2012. I just put together the 1:4th Sideshow Soaring Superman. It's a thing of beauty.

You're right about the Superman Returns packaging with 'Superman'. Looks identical. I wasn't fond of the Superman Returns line. Probably one of the most atrocious lines ever produced IMO. I hope Routh gets a McFarlane release sometime soon. His line needs redeemed and we need a good Returns representation (or KC).

Very nice!

The SR line I thought was actually pretty good when you consider it was a toyline meant for children. It blows away the crap they come out with now. My only minor complaint was Routh was a tad too thin and there wasn't a Lois or Jimmy.

Collecting wasn't as predominant in the early 2000's as it is today. They were still making toys for kids back then. It would definitely be great to get a McFarlane Routh figure, although McFarlane is hit and miss with their likeness and proportions. His Hot Toy was hot garbage. I think, despite the odd head sculpt, the DC Direct figure was better.

If I had unlimited funds, I'd buy all the Weta displays. Those were amazingly well done.

The figure technology today is unbelievable, even compared to just 10 years ago, let alone 20! There's so much nowadays that it kind of gets underwhelming. You def need to have a focus if you commit to the hobby for sure. I cut grass in the summer for extra funds, so that always funds my hobby if I'm not selling something to add something. 3D printers and private custom companies are highly popular and in direct competition with the licensed companies.

The WETA line was great. One of my grails is the Superman and Lois piece of them holding hands and flying in the air. That is a beauty. I have the WETA ZSJL Cavill on display and just got a custom headsculpt for it. Looks amazing. The Knightmare Batfleck in that line is fire. Hope you get to add more to your collection soon🔥

I hope Lex is good. I need a Lex Luthor to add to the supervillain Mt. Rushmore. Lex, Joker, Loki, and Magneto. I know people will put Thanos, but it's Lex. :o
Thanos is a whiny beeyotch. :o

After seeing Gunn’s interview with Josh Horowitz and the way he described Lex on there I’m very excited for this characterization of Lex.

I’m still kinda iffy on the casting of Hoult in the role. Nothing against the guy, he just never stood out to me as a great standout actor. Although I did really like him in a film that came out last year called The Order where he plays the antagonist.

I think we're lying to ourselves if we don't think that the vast majority of the weight is on Superman's shoulders. Yes, we'll get other productions, but anything beyond that could very well be wishful thinking if Superman fails.
WB notoriously panics when things aren't received well and if superman doesn't hit their internal numbers, I feel like Supergirl will end up being tampered with in an effort to "course correct".

The most anticipated movie of the year by far and we still have naysayers.

^ I've seen this play out twice before already, so I'm just being realistic.

I do think Gunn will deliver a good movie and this time around it has the elements that I wanted to see based on what we've heard (i.e. a focus on the journalism aspect, actual relationship with Lois and Clark, focus on building the superman world). I also think the krypto angle is very smart to hit your general audience and I would've never thought someone would have attempted that.

Besides, even though we have a trailer, we haven't even seen anything yet, so I can't wait to see the next one where hopefully we get to hear the characters speak.

At this point though it's just the matter of the movie coming out for me at least, I was always going to see it.

Eh, I don’t think so. Supergirl will be too far along imo. It’s more likely they’d push Gunn to add Batman or fast track TBATB movie.
