The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨SPOILERS🚨)

David was just in a promo on TV with James and Shaquille O’Neal in scruffy Clark Kent mode and he has never looked cuter OMG. :atp:

Need that to get online asap.

Side note, amazing how tiny Shaq makes tall guys like David look. :funny:

I was on a trip to Orlando Shaqs rookie year and he walked into the Hard Rock while we had dinner. I never saw subside own a room like that. He was ginormous!

Best part of the night though was shaking out and convincing the old security guard at MGM Studios theme park to let is run around after hours! We got to see the Honey I Shrunk the Kids set up with no one there! We went the next day and had to wait in line so it was not a fun ;)

That was great. I'm happy David was included in this. I want to see more of him from here on out. Good start there. :legacy:
They're rolling him out elegantly as star of the movie, without overdoing it or forcing him onto people.

His face is about to be everywhere soon in a months time and is the new Superman so forcing him onto people is part of the game (but that's not meant in a derogatory way). I liked the promo for sure. Shaq is always a good time and likable as all hell.

Such a fun little commercial spot with Shaq.

Also, I cannot believe how much I've grown to really like the suit. It's crazy to me when I think about the first image reveal and how much I hated it. I imagine once I see this suit in live action, I'll love it.

Then again, similar events happened with SR. I was lukewarm on the suit reveal, but now it's my favorite live action Superman suit.

Gunn is the face of the DC Studios. Like it or not, this is what he was hired to be. The real promotion for this movie will probably kick in about 2 months before release, and I can guarantee you at that time the cast will be all over the place promoting this thing. That's usually how these things go, anyway. Until then, it's just whatever little scraps/teases Gunn feels like throwing us. And yes, because they will be coming from him, they will probably also include him.
He may be the face of the studio but not even Feige didnt do any promos for the MCU (unless im wrong)

They're riding on Gunn as an overall brand more than Superman (atm)

That teaser trailer was sure lacking in Superman but man Gunn was all over it.

Superman on toothpaste and Shaq. Brilliant marketing.

I really did enjoy the BTS stuff. Shaq truly is a treasure. He seems to be game for anything, even making fun of himself.

David does come across as being fun. I did laugh when he burped out loud. He comes from a Philly Main Line family, well off, well educated and so. But he was funny behind the scenes, like one of the guys, something Cavill could ever do.

The idea was funny and enjoyable. It is early in the promo process, but we should get fun stuff in the future. Well done.

The marketing is bad guys. :o
Here's the thing, we won't know if the marketing worked until the movie comes out. Then everyone does there Monday morning quarterbacking.

At the end of the day, this movie will actually have to be good on its own merits as a movie. The greatest tell will be if this thing has legs.

I wouldn't get too caught up in what the anonymous influencers say because Twitter is a bubble and not the real world.

Sure. I was messing around. Seeing people say the marketing isn't doing enough is just very funny. It's not even about influencers and stuff, I don't put much into their takes. I'm talking about the fan base. It's just hilarious to see people think they aren't gonna market the hell of this film lol the teaser is already playing left and right on television and YouTube

After reading the last few pages about Superman on film since the 70's, I don't think you can point to any one thing and say that's the reason superman on film has failed basically after S:11.

If I had to blame anything or anyone, it's the suits sitting around the table brainstorming on how to sell more toys, and introducing stupid ideas that make it on film, then the studios hiring a director who wants to put "his" on spin on Superman instead of remaining faithful to the heart of what superman is.

So it has been a combination of things.

I truly believe that if you stay faithful to who and what superman is, you will have a hit.
The new superman trailer certainly gives me hope, but, so did The trailer for BvS back in the day.
Cautiously optimistic here.
