The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

WTF are serious comic book fans?
There is a group that actually likes the serious tone for Superheroes and want to get away from movies for the general audience. I am talking about fans of Logan, Man of Steel, The Dark Knight trilogy, The Batman, ect…. They want Superheroes to be taken seriously. The problem is they are such a small minority when it comes to buying tickets. They post all the time on this board and are not haters like the brotherhood.

Oh, alright. Well, I guess they like darker movies. I just dislike the notion that movies that have humor, lightness and even silliness in them aren't to be taken seriously as movies. Like, I consider both Jurassic Park and Schindler's List to be masterpieces, if that brings home what I'm trying to say.

A good movie is a good movie to me.

i enjoy my darker, more serious superhero content too - nolan trilogy, daredevil netflix, man of steel...all great to me.

but it's not the only way to do these kind of movies.

variety is the spice of life.

There are a lot of false premises and false equivalencies here. Also, these things are not mutually exclusive. We are talking about a medium that was and is fundamentally about morality plays for children and adolescents. There can obviously be a variety of tones and maturity of subject matter in that umbrella, but trying to completely divorce the genre from that core truth is a fool's errand.

Anyone who thinks that superhero cinema should become strictly serious, adult material in my opinion has lost the plot. Even at its most mature and serious, superhero media is fundamentally immature and adolescent. The idea that art should be deathly serious is such a teenage mentality. True maturity is understanding and appreciating the simple joys, lightness, and positivity in life. Real life is often absurd and ridiculous.

Wow!!!! Superman as already passed Fantastic Four in ticket sales. I have been telling you guys for months it was a mistake for Jurassic Rebirth and F4 to challenge Superman. It is going to be like when Shazam came out in between Captain Marvel and End Game.

I believe that was just in first day sales, correct?

As someone who's favorite film of all time is The Dark Knight, I can tell you that I do not want every superhero film being like that. It's never been about "serious" or "lighthearted", it's about respecting the characters as they are adapted into the world that the directors see fit.

There's also this inherent misunderstanding that Nolans Batman was dark and gritty, when it wasn't. They were suspenseful, thrilling, and at times, really funny too. They were summer blockbusters. Many films at the time took the wrong lessons from what Nolan did, which is ironic when Nolan has stated what a big influence Donners Superman was on Batman Begins.

For a character like Superman, it's important to respect the identity of the character and his world first and foremost. James Gunn looks to be doing that, and for the first time in a Long time, I honestly think we are gonna get an incredible Superman film.

And it's the most hyped I've been for a CBM in a while.

I know everyone is hesitant to use the ‘B’ word when it comes to the box office predictions, I’m right there with ya….

But you can just feel it in the air, this thing is gonna be biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig

I’m not! I’m confident. Here is my estimate.

This movie will make $1.7 billion.

DOMESTIC.

I'm completely indifferent to tone when it comes to superhero movies but you know all but one of those was a huge hit, right? lol

They have got to be counting the presales because the ticket sales for everyone just started a few hours ago. We will find out more tonight. Grace (Superman/Gunn hater) reported it. She claims she only reports the truth. :woozy: :astonish:

I'm protecting my own aura as a fan and trying not to back myself into that hype BO corner, but the sleeping giant may lie with Superman this summer. I am in The Batman ballpark and will predict $710-725 mil WW and enter into this on the conservative side but dang, if this makes anything more, the DCU will really be off and running..FLYING..overnight.

I actually thought Man of Steel was better then Batman Begins but I like Superman more then Batman so I am a little biased.

Is this our first glimpse of Ultraman unmasked?

I get the fear of the failure of the DCEU and The Batman made less than Dr. Strange 2 even though it was a much better movie. I look at the Aquaman and its success. Superman looks like a better version of that movie. It’s getting a billion.
