I've seen a lot of talk and speculation as to Gwen's fate in the reboot franchise. And to be honest I hope she dies. I don't hate Gwen or anything, it'd just be a great way to show how vastly different these films will be from the Raimi films (though I still wish Sony had kept their mitts off and let Sam make a proper #4 before rebooting like 5 or so years from now). But my concern is this: if they kill off Gwen, will the GA and Batfans who don't know anything about Spider-Man ***** that it was a rip off The Dark Knight?

nah i dont think so...not if its done right...like being thrown off the bridge.
thats the way it should go as well.

People think the general audience think like fanboys do. Thus, is why they're not having the Mechanical/Organics debate.

I thought this was going to be a box office competition thread. :awesome:

It was an unexpected plot turn, but no one was invested in the character or actress. So that's one deductible already. Webb has a shot at really pulling the heart strings. Plus Gwen's death could look a lot more devastating than being blown-up off screen.

They have nothing to worry about here.

Something like that. Or they just won't care.

To their credit, most Batman fans know about the Death of Gwen Stacy.

The general audience is another matter.

I don't think she is going to die in this one. Emma Watson is a very likeable actress so I don't see them tossing her out after one movie.

Well they only get 3 movies so if they do kill her off it will be in the last movie.

HAHA sorry...I was just in the Potter forum. However, if Emma Watson wants to come into this movie then I say yes:o

If they do so what.. I don't give a damn about the GA or fanboys, I just want a good movie!!

What would the Raimi-viewers think if the whole Green Goblin death scene plays out the way it does?

I honestly think fans tend to overestimate the general audience when it comes to giving a **** about things like this.

Honestly, I doubt anyone would care. Rachel Dawes and Gwen Stacy are vastly different, as are the circumstances of their deaths.

Okay... They're not going to kill Gwen. It's pretty obvious.

If they don't establish MJ in this one as the "true" love of Peter's life, with Gwen as a stop-gap, it ain't happening. And definitely not in the second film either way.

The photos shown presnt what looks like a funeral procession, which is likely for Gwen's dad. If the film ends that way, the second film will be about the two of them getting together, and sure as hell won't end with Gwen dying.

TDK can't be used as a measuring stick. For one thing because the story had serious structural problems. But also, Bruce Wayne is an extremely different character from Peter Parker. Spider-Man is a serious hindrance to Peter's life. But Bruce Wayne has no life aside from being Batman. Bruce Wayne's relationship with Rachel wasn't a love, but a wish fulfillment. Peter's realtionship with Gwen is something else altogether.

Further, Peter's relationship with MJ isn't a foregone conclusion. Marvel has been trying to end it for nearly ternty years, and finally have. So there's no reason to expect them to continue it in the rebooted movies. Especially if Gwen is presented as a likeable character that audiences respond to. They even intended to resurrect Gwen in the comics with OMD- and if this film proves successful, they may go ahead with that.

I think gwen having her neck broken by spidey (accidently) will hit home far more powerfully than rachael getting blown up.

I would think the general audience would feel it would rip off the first Spiderman movie's bridge scene more than Rachel's death, just with a sadder outcome.

I hope the style of the new spidey franchise is somewhat dark. Not batman dark, but it definitely needs to be way more raw, more real, and more sophisticated.

And by the way, I think that Raimis movies were cut in just the right place. They finished off a "trilogy" with three. Had they made spidey 4 in Raimi style, then they would have opened up a new storyline, and the series had definitely grown tired. They repeated them selfs way to much.

Can't wait to see the new style!

Raimi ****ed up "3" in amazing ways... I'd like to think that one of the reasons they are rebooting this franchise, is to do the black symbiote storyline JUSTICE! Raimi never liked that storyline to begin with, and it shows. He skated over it, ****ing it up completely. Spidey 3 SHOULD have been the darkest, and most serious of the bunch - instead, it ended up being a complete farce and a total ****-up!

Bring on the Marc Webb style, already!

I'm sure there will be the odd fools out who make the comparison. They'll probably be the same couple of people who think this is a loose sequel going into the theatre. I don't see anyone else having the problem, though...unless, of course, the Green Goblin wires her to some oil drums.

I understand the problem. I couldn't care any less about it.
