The Dark Knight The Dark Knight@ Showest 3/13/08

I think its actually entirely possible that they show the whole movie. I got to see Matrix Revolutions 3.5 months before it came out because the Wachowskis used to babysit my friend.
But you were invited, were you not?

I highly doubt they'd publicly advertise a screening at something as big as Showest for a movie as big as TDK. There will be a test screening of it sometime in the future, but it will be a highly secret, private affair.

WARNER BROS. PICTURES IS A “BIG” PRESENCE AT SHOWEST

Studio Presents Hot Summer Slate in “The Big Picture ’08” Featuring Big-Name Talent, Including Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, George Lucas and More…

Showcasing some of the summer’s most-anticipated movies and some of the film industry’s biggest stars, Warner Bros. Pictures will host a star-studded event called The Big Picture ’08 at this year’s ShoWest Convention.

The announcement was made today by Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution Dan Fellman.

The program will highlight the studio’s exciting summer slate, featuring advance footage—some never-before-seen—from each film. In addition, talent from both sides of the camera will be on hand to present their titles, including stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Emile Hirsch and Christina Ricci; and directors George Lucas, Christopher Nolan and Peter Segal.

The Big Picture ’08 will be held at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas on Thursday, March 13, beginning at 2:45 p.m. ShoWest attendees will be treated to a sneak peek at Warner Bros. Pictures’ summer releases, including scenes from the high-octane action adventure “Speed Racer”; the action comedy “Get Smart”; the action drama “The Dark Knight,” the follow-up to “Batman Begins”; “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2,” which reunites the stars of the original hit feature; and the highly anticipated computer-animated feature “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” which brings a galaxy far, far away back to the big screen with a brand new look from Lucasfilm Animation.

In making the announcement, Fellman stated, “From the titles to the talent behind them, this is one of the most exciting film line-ups we’ve seen for any season, with a wide range of movies that offer something for everyone. We wanted to showcase this special slate with our partners in the distribution community, who we are sure will share our excitement about what is coming from Warner Bros. this summer.”

So it will just be some new footage probably.

They test screened Begins, too, before all the big effects (like the train wreck) were complete. That film turned out OK...

There are all kinds of reasons for test screenings. One is to generate buzz. Another is to appease big executive egos. (Begins was screened because the bigwigs were kinda nervous about making another Batman and Robin bomb. Of course, the Schumacher films actually had nothing to do with Begins since it was made with a whole new crew, but the execs were nervous anyway.) Sometimes films are screened to orient the marketing people, give them a handle on what they have to sell.

Having a test screening does NOT signal 'bad news' or desperation or anything else. Such things may be going on (though I really doubt it in this case), but having a test screening does not automatically signal that.

Considering what is already known about this film, chances of it being a bomb hover somewhere around zero. It will at worst be one of the summer's better films.

BTW, I do NOT actually think this will be a test screening. I think this one is another long preview, with the creators and some cast present and doing Q&A.

And yet you completely forgot the number 1 reason of test screenings... To see the what the audience thinks of it.

It's that simple. They'll have a small sheet for you to feel out asking questions on what worked and what didn't. Us film makers tend to rely on ourselves too much and not the audience. The audience is looking at the film with absolutely no biased at all.

But Showest screening isn't your typical test screening... 800 buck a ticket. That isn't a general movie goer, so who knows...

I prefer that rather than presenting the whole movie !

Oh sweet jesus, people. Be realistic, they ARE NOT SHOWING THE WHOLE MOVIE. Come on!!! The movie doesn't come out for months, they ARE NOT SHOWING THE WHOLE MOVIE!!!

It's just going to be a presentation of some sorts. A trailer, a sneak peak, something like that. Stop freaking out. there's no way in hell they'd show the film this early.

Warner Bros. plans to do a celebrity-studded promotional event at ShoWest 2008, harking back to days of yore in assembled star power.

In keeping with a more recent trend at the exhibition confab, Warners' "The Big Picture '08" presentation will not be a splashy luncheon but will be held in a theater in Las Vegas' Paris hotel at 2:45 p.m. March 13, the closing day of the show. ShoWest opens March 10 at the Paris and Bally's hotels.

Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman said the presentation -- similar to one staged by the studio two years ago at ShoWest -- will be focused primarily on Warners' all-important summer slate. Its releases this swimsuit season include two huge tentpole pics: Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" on July 18 and the Steve Carell comedy "Get Smart" on June 20.

"Speed Racer," bowing May 9, represents yet another big title in the studio's summertime basket.

"From the titles to the talent behind them, this is one of the most exciting film lineups we've seen for any season, with a wide range of movies that offer something for everyone," Fellman said. "We wanted to showcase this special slate with our partners in the distribution community, who we are sure will share our excitement about what is coming from Warner Bros. this summer."

Coming off its biggest boxoffice year in its 85-year history, the studio will show clips from those releases and also from dramatic sequel "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" and the Lucasfilm-animated "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."

Top talent expected to attend the Warners event includes actors Christian Bale, Carell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Emile Hirsch and Christina Ricci and directors George Lucas, Christopher Nolan and Peter Segal.

ShoWest is produced by the Film Group at Nielsen Business Media, which includes The Hollywood Reporter.

Oh God....

if they're f***ing test screening it :csad:

Guys, this is not good news.:csad:

Good grief, calm down, everyone. They're not "test screening" this movie at Showest, or showing an early print of it, for God's sake.

As other people have stated, Showest is a tradeshow for THEATER OWNERS and people in the theater business. Like NAB, CES and some other industry tradeshows, it's NOT open to the general public -- you have to "be in the biz," or else a recognized journalist, to register in advance and attend. It's one of the few times that Hollywood studios actually deal with the guys who run the theaters, and to show their gratitude, they wine and dine them, show them trailers (or presentation reels -- selected clips from the films), and then trot out a bunch of stars, so some sweaty, balding, cynical theater-owner businessmen from Chicago or Dubuque or Hoboken or wherever can later say, "hey, I saw Angelina Jolie and got my picture taken with her!"

They may show the latest TDK trailer, or extended clips, or one complete action sequence to get the theater owners jazzed up, and they might have some of the cast/crew on hand to introduce it. But they're not showing an "early" version of TDK, period.

It looks like they're just playing clips from those features, Minibond. Doesn't appear that they'll show the whole film. I wonder though if it'll be the same clips they showed before at the comic-con last summer, or something totally new?

I think its actually entirely possible that they show the whole movie. I got to see Matrix Revolutions 3.5 months before it came out because the Wachowskis used to babysit my friend.

Cool. I got to see it years before actually, because Keanu Reeves is my dad. My real name is Keanshoe Reeves.

so.......are we, the fans, gonna get anything out of this?

Wow. This is going to be huge here. It's a shame Ledger isn't around to be there like Bale, Nolan, & others are. I would be curious to read more what he has to say on doing the part. :(

How do you get into showwest? I could give a good description of what went down. :D

Hmmm... Christian Bale is going to be there. I definitely am gonna try to go then. Damn. Time to call in some favors.

I think they are just showing the trailers. I dont think the WB will be let TDK be seen early. And if you read the little blurb on BOF it said TDK TRAILER at showest.

And yet you completely forgot the number 1 reason of test screenings... To see the what the audience thinks of it.

Didn't 'forget' anything. The only time you have a test screening to see "what the audience thinks" is when you think the film has problems and no one has a clue what to do. In other words, the film is in trouble. Chances are, you have even attempted some fixes but aren't sure how people will react to them.

None of that is the case here. So it's not worth mentioning.
