Whoa, that Deadline article has some juicy tidbits. You guys gotta read the whole article.

Now, Dark Phoenix was originally planned to be two movies, we hear, and during late pre-production, the studio changed gears and said it was to be one movie. Kinberg, we hear, was flexible and rewrote. Days of Future Past erased the timeline of The Last Stand, so a rebooted story about Jean Grey was possible here. Our sources tell us that testing Dark Phoenix was a continual headache, and the feature adaptation of Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and David Cockrum’s fan-beloved Dark Phoenix Saga comic was hard to get right.

We heard that in one cut, Jean Grey dies, which wasn’t received well. But overall, the major ending change-up, executed in reshoots, entailed going from an intimate ending with Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), and Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) against Jessica Chastain’s Vuk. The feeling from the audience in testing was that they wanted to see all the X-Men heroes fighting in the end. There have been reports out there that the ending was changed-up because it was too similar to Captain Marvel. This isn’t true: No one on the Fox/Dark Phoenix production side had any intel of what Captain Marvel would be like before it was released. It was the all-team reshoot that pushed Dark Phoenix from its original Nov. 2 release date (which went to ultimate 4-time Oscar winner and Fox blockbuster finale pre-merger Bohemian Rhapsody) to Feb. 14. We understand Kinberg got to make the film he wanted to make, and was flexible about reshoots with the studio. But we also hear Fox production brass didn’t ride herd early enough, and by the time they did, production was too far down the road.

Interesting information. I feel like the train scene was amazing but I'd still would love for the final scene to be on space with the Phoenix fighting the invasion on Earth.

Mendelson is right in his assertion that audiences just never really cared or liked the “First Class” X-Men all that much. The BO for First Class, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix make that hard to deny.
Despite being "replaced", Original Cast has the last laugh.

If Singer went AWOL during DOFP and had the sex scandal right before the premiere, Lauren Schuler Donner might have not wanted him back at all, and could be a reason why her involvement with the franchise ended as her tweet indicated.

Just a theory, obviously.

My god the ineptitude over at Fox, Snider, Kinberg, Parker, Singer (absentee) et al. I can confidently say any of us could've done a better job. We at least know that DARK PHOENIX WAS OPENING ON THE SAME WEEKEND AS PETS 2! And I can also say MANY OF US WON'T EVER HIRE TO WRITE, MUCH LESS DIRECT OUR X-MEN MOVIE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Also this is just a clown show. A quote from the article:
Sony, led by studio boss Tom Rothman’s eye, willed Venom to its accomplishments. That didn’t happen here with Fox and Dark Phoenix.

Makes you wonder why Kinberg kept dragging Hutch Parker along with him most of the time when he can't even answer simple questions about the production. He's left to answer questions like "What power would you want?" and "Who's your favorite character?"
My God I can taste the hate on these type of articles.
LOL you probably say the same thing about articles from "The Failing New York Times" and WaPo.

He did have a sex scandal before the premiere :funny: I remember reports came out about his past conduct in the lead up to DOFP.

Under 500 ww is impossible.

Apocalypse poor run cannot have an huge impact of these. At least 'cause few seen it.

The Apocalypse marketing was a totally messy, FOX overstimated the general audience cleverness.
So the Apocalypse violet/power ranger comparison affair was a false step
(only the poor cinematographic culture can a person thing that the violet colour was not from light)
And the poster with Apocalypse/Mystica was another huge false step with the nazi-feminist group to rail against it.

The focus on 3 women on DP is a great advantage point. (like we seen with the poor quality Wonder Woman, celebrate in usa only 'cause it has a strong female character)

I stumbled upon this first page but just want to quote this :lmao:

Nah, Marvel Studios did. The original cast got over in a wasteland. Even then, they couldn't compete with the Avengers or Marvel Studios in general. DoFP made less then Endgame made domestically.

If you're surprised by this, you haven't been paying attention. Fans have been saying for years that this series' refusal to evolve would cause its downfall.

Just saw it. As I was watching DP, I was thinking why this movie was ever made. I hate to say this, but it’s a tired franchise that needed to be put to rest. Like I’ve said earlier, they should have stopped at X3.
I’m giving DP a 2/10.
Very disappointing

Interesting you put your review in here. How about your box office predictions?

I think this is the first I've heard about Singer going awol during DOFP as well as Apocalypse. I always assumed the difference in quality between those films was that he was more on the ball for the former. At the risk of sounding like an apologist, I think the guy is talented, though clearly troubled and a damn liability for a studio by the sounds of it. I'd like to hear more about what the hell went on over the past few years.

I remember something way back about Singer going AWOL, so it's not something new to me. I don't really think he's half as good as he thinks he is.

Will Dark PhoeniX be the king of the Marvel films that failed to gross over $100 million?

I think there was definitely some of that on the DOFP set, Singer going AWOL during production. But that just multiplied many times over by the time Apocalypse came. I think he got complacent by the accolades DOFP was getting and got used to having Ottman, Thomas Sigel, and yes Kinberg to clean up after him on some days from DOFP and used that as a template for what he can get away with for the X:A set.

Why not, there are a lot of you guys on the DP rating and review thread talking about the box office
Oh, I am more pointing out how you decided to tell others they had no idea what they were talking about, while saying the early numbers for this meant 500m easy.
