DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

This may sound like a crazy idea but I would have Wonder Woman III act as the final film in the DCEU and conceive it as a proper closing out of the universe. Gal is very well liked by the GA as Wonder Woman and I think she deserves at least one more more movie to go out on a high note. I would have Jason Mamoa, Cavill and Affleck guest star for one final definitive time and craft the story as a pseudo JL epic that says goodbye to everyone and then do a full reboot.

But thats just me.
I think the point is that they don’t want to waste another dime on a universe they’ve already deemed a failure. Henry Cavill reportedly got paid $250,000 for a couple hours of his time at most and less than a minute of screen time. You think he’s worth paying more than that for a “guest star” gig when he’s never drawn enough of an audience to make any profits? Nah, it’s long past time to start fresh. Any more money thrown at failed iterations of the characters is money down the drain and the brand deeper into the dirt, imo. Wasting time and money on a send-off would be a worthless - and potentially even further damaging - investment. The point is to invest in the future, not the dead end past.

Henry i get the argument for but is Gal also considered "damaged" at this point? Maybe I'm biased but i feel like she is very well liked by the general audience as the character even though WW84 was divisive.

The way I see it, the only reason to keep going with Gal is if she’s going to keep going in your new universe. Now, if Patty were here to finish her arc then I’d say you have enough goodwill to make it worth your while. But keeping Gal for one more one-off from a new writer and director when you’ve already decided this will be it? Nah, I wouldn’t consider that a smart play. If you’re going with a new vision for WW, make it completely new, star and all.

Yeah I'm just very torn on that. I REALLY like Gal and I feel there's at least one more GREAT Wonder Woman movie left in her with the right script and director but...at the same time, there's definitely other actresses out there that I feel could dethrone her.

The funny thing is, we're going to see her TWICE next year, she's popping up in Shazam and The Flash so...recasting her shortly after those movies could be a tricky transition. And Wonder Woman is a hot IP now because of the 2017 movie so I dont think its something Gunn would be wise to sit on for too long.

Yeah, as far as I’m concerned the only good thing about Gal was Patty’s take, so without her, she’ll just flounder anyway as she has in every movie not directed by Patty Jenkins, so…*shrug*. In my mind the “good Wonder Woman” is already lost from that equation. If they keep her for one more, she’d almost certainly be going out with a whimper, imo.

Hate to tell ya, but she's supposedly been cut from the flash.

No thats been clarified. She had two appearances, one in film that had to do with the plot and a post credit scene with Henry. The post credit has been cut.

I don’t get the people saying “yeah dump Henry, Gal, Momoa, but Levi, Robbie, Cena etc should all stay”. That’s not a reboot. That sounds like convoluted nonsense. Especially since stuff like WW1 and Aquaman were far more successful than Shazam or The Suicide Squad. Personally I don’t think a full reboot is necessary and they can easily just do some course correction with sequels but it looks like it is what is happening

She was good in ZSJL.

Soft-rebooting would be a high risk, low reward investment. Hard rebooting is a high risk, high reward investment. That risk can be further mitigated if they play their cards right. They don't even need to ditch their existing franchises (WW and Aquaman) if Gunn's Superman bombs. There's not much else to say here, it's a tough call for sure, but it's the right move, 100%.

I can see where you're coming from.
While I wouldn't mind seeing Gal go out for one last ride, there's no guarantee a new director or writer would come up with anything as close to as good as WW 2017.

In that case, is it really worth it for her to have one last ride if its underwhelming or bad?
In that sense, I feel it's better that Gadot will go out where things stand now ,than having her limp to the end.

She's made her mark on the role, and she defied alot of naysayers who said she couldn't pull off the roll after her casting.

While Aquaman did make a billion dollars, we don't know if Aquaman 2 will match that. Michael Keaton's Batman only did two films (until recently, of course), and they recast him for Batman Forever and the franchise stayed strong at the B.O (at least until the film that followed it).

And its an opportunity to bring Jason back as Lobo, which is a character I think he is absolutely perfect for (much more so then he ever was for Aquaman).

Lawd y’all are killing me with this Lobo thing :funny::funny:

If I were Jason that would be such an insulting slap in the face downgrade. “Hey Jason so we no longer want you to play this A List character that YOU helped make popular …instead we want you to play this d list niche 90s leftover character. And we’re gonna pay you alot less too. How bout it?!?”

Unfortunately IF Lobo’s really happening, it’s pretty much a guarantee he’ll get the A-List treatment from Gunn, imo. I feel like it would take no time at all to sell a character like that to Jason Momoa lol.

As relates to Robbie, Cena, et al., it's not so much that those guys are uniquely entitled to stay. My thinking at least was just that Gunn might want to preserve a few things from his little corner of the soon-to-be defunct DCEU. His Suicide Squad-related projects, for instance, are only loosely connected to Snyder's films, so, theoretically, you could get away with that if you really wanted to. Think of it as a "quasi-reboot" rather than a full-blown or hard reboot.

Another scenario I've been mulling over is one that would involve anything deemed a success (however the studio comes to define that) making the cut — whether it's by way of the DCU or a separate Elseworlds-type universe. But, all things considered, provided that the studio can afford to recast everyone, I'm inclined to agree that a hard reboot seems like the most logical course of action.

Im just laughing that WB is spending MAJOR money on The Flash promo by buying a superbowl spot. Of all your films over the past decade thats the one that brings you out of retirement?

Bringing back a previous actor in a role could work for a reboot, if you do something to show people that its a new universe and not part of the old. That is what they did with Deadpool (kept Reynolds and redid his origin and gave him the comic book suit, to show that it wasn't a sequel to X-Men Origins Wolverine).

I wonder who should be the new Aquaman? I still like Arthur to keep the long hair and beard.

It was also 1 film that was so bad that it was easily forgotten. Most of these actors have played the roles in multiple films and if we're going into a younger DC universe, having some of them doesnt help.

I'd probably go a bit more traditional with Aquaman.

WW will be harder....especially giving her a new costume that remains up to par.

Could you imagine if they went with her starspangled bathing suit design after the battle skirt?
