I second all of this, as Superman is likewise my all time favorite fictional character and Hoechlin is my definitive portrayal as well.
My only deviation is that I have waited over 45 years for this portrayal. I love Reeve’s portrayal as much as the next guy, but Superman and Lois encompasses everything I love about the character, including his compassion, his wisdom, his altruism and indeed his overt goodness. We get to see that played out on the home front as well by focus on the family dynamics, taking the foundations set forth in Tomasi‘s Rebirth run and expanding upon them.
As to production values, throwing lots of money at effects does not ensure a better product.

There is no substitute for knowing the character and getting characterization right, no amount of money spent on special effects can cure not getting the character’s basic foundations right.
