MARVEL COMICS
ARCADE DEATH GAME #1 $2.99 (Probably. Arcade's usually fun and I'm reading Avengers Academy.)

Small week.

iZombie #10
Invincible #77
The Walking Dead #81

I hate how the first week of the month has so few comics.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #653
DAKEN DARK WOLVERINE #5

Nothing much.....I might have to add to this.

BATMAN BEYOND #2
HAUNT #13 ($1.99? Is that right? Are they making it cheaper to encourage new readers to jump on? Why is Marvel too stupid to try this? Because their .1 Initiative is totally going to fail to bring in anyone new)
INVINCIBLE #77 (has been solicited for two weeks in a row, which means it will come out the latest week, DYNAMO 5 style)
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #653
ARCADE DEATH GAME #1 (HELL YES!)
IRON MAN LEGACY #11
SPIDER-GIRL #3

Given how low sales are for IML, and that #11 is the end of the arc, I will be stunned if we see an issue 12. Still, 11 issues for a B-list Iron Man title isn't too bad these days. I only wish Fred Van Lente could write the Iron Man book that counts. It will also be a double dose of Paul Tobin, as he writes SPIDER-GIRL and ARCADE: DEATH GAME. For those who don't know, or forgot, ARCADE DEATH GAME was originally planned as a crossover of annuals between SPIDER-GIRL, AVENGERS ACADEMY and YOUNG ALLIES. But then YOUNG ALLIES was canceled, and perhaps someone thought it was daft to sell an AVENGERS ACADEMY ANNUAL before issue #12 has shipped. Thus, the story lives as a 3 issue mini which is thankfully priced at $2.99 for every issue (which thus makes it cheaper than YOUNG ALLIES #1 or SPIDER-GIRL #1). It involves both teen teams meeting in a battle against Arcade in one of his Murderworlds, with art by David Baldeon (who drew YOUNG ALLIES and NOMAD: GIRL WITHOUT A WORLD, as well as the first few NOMAD back-up strips and the Gravity story in AGE OF HEROES #2). It looks great and I would enjoy it more if every issue sold in the Top 100. We need to support new blood characters. Marvel desperately needs them.

Interestingly, this is a week in which no comic across three companies is priced over $2.99 without at least offering extra page content, as ASM does. Despite Image only 10% as much of the market as Marvel, they are far more willing to risk eating sales losses to encourage new readers. INVINCIBLE has had a few "jumping on issues" that were below cover price as well. Why are the smaller companies that can afford to do so the least more willing to cut new readers a break than Marvel, who can afford it the most?

Is that an Academy tie-in? If so, it's a small week, I'll grab it.
Avengers Academy/Young Allies crossover in its own mini. Why they decided not to include "Avengers" somewhere in the title is beyond me, since that's pretty much the only thing between AA, Young Allies, and Arcade that actually sells, but whatevs. I'm interested.

BLACK TERROR #13 $3.99

Well this is good I suppose. Next week in comics isn't worth the trip to the comicshop really but being that this week's is so packed that I can only afford half of what I plan to get I can actually spread it out without problem. Of these above I'm most excited for Black Terror. I don't recall which issue it's ending on but I think it's 14 of 15, I'm not sure. I enjoy the book a lot though.

Also, though I doubt it'll be next week due to how many back issues from this week I'll be getting but I plan on picking up the Batwoman issues of Detective Comics. I found the fist few issues in my local Half Priced Books and add those to the issue 0 from a few months ago and I'm sucked in. I want to get caught up on her stuff before her new series starts.

Question though... there seems to be some established continuity leading into the Detective Comics story. Besides 52, Final Crisis Revelations, and that arc of Batman & Robin, what else has she been in?

Nothing, that's basically it. Her Detective stories is essentially her origin and Rucka taking the character in a different direction aka an actual direction. There's nothing you need to know before hand; it's all in Elegy (with the exclusion of her being hunted by the Crime Bible folk, but the arc establishes that well enough that I doubt it'll be an issue).

Cool. I picked up the first 3 issues and then the 5th issue and loved them. I'm eager to get more but it's a bad week so we'll see when I can.

Hmm, I think I'll have to add that one to my list then.

HAUNT #13 ($1.99? Is that right? Are they making it cheaper to encourage new readers to jump on? Why is Marvel too stupid to try this? Because their .1 Initiative is totally going to fail to bring in anyone new)

It might be going to the slim issue format that Casanova and Fell had.

I agree, especially since it WOULD make sense to have AVENGERS on the title because of AVENGERS ACADEMY. Marvel makes no sense. They slap on franchise names for a lot of spare mini's for dubious reasons, yet when one mini actually has a reason, they doom it to obscurity. I swear Marvel's promotional department can't tell the difference between a good comic that needs a little extra help, and a bunion.

Interesting. I wonder if it would have anything to do with Todd McFarlane wanting to focus on getting a new SPAWN film made and thus having less time to ink? It seems odd since HAUNT is one of Image's best sellers as it was. I just thought it was a lower priced "jumping on issue" that Kirkman has done with some of his books. One issue of INVINCIBLE a few years ago was $1.99 for that purpose.

Well, I was just speculating that it could be. I don't know for sure or anything. I guess you could seek out some Image solicits for the next months and see what the price is to make sure.

Kind of surprising to hear that Toybiz and Wizard Magazine has come to an end. I guess Wizard will just be online...but, even with dwindling sales, every shop I went into still ordered quite a few copies of the magazine.

Instead of worrying that they weren't giving the public news that was up-to-the-minute, they should have been focused on giving readers some great interviews, some good promotional material, and maybe some unbiased opinions.

The last Wizard I ever bought and read was promoting Origin (the mini about Wolverine's origin) so it's not like I'll miss it, but it's sad that it won't be around if I ever get a wierd itch to buy a copy.
