Hey guys, I'm writing a screenplay on The Epic of Gilgamesh and I just wanted to get your thoughts on whether or not you would like to see a film version of it.

It's going to be darker than the traditional poem. Should be done with it by this summer. Think a cross between Robert Zemekis' Beowulf and The Lord of the Rings.

Bump.

Figured I'd resurrect this thread since I'm about to send the script off to a BIG name director. Hint: He's brought two different Kings to the big screen this decade.

Wooooooooow *stands in awe*

''From the guy's who made Epic Movie, Date Movie, Meet the Spartans, and Disaster Movie....comes the greatest EPIC movie....of all time. THE EPIC MOVIE of GILBERT GODFRIMISH......Starring Carman Electra."

Zack Snyder? (Leonidas & Ozymandias)

Peter Jackson is busy for the next 5 years i'm afraid:o

He's finishing The Lovely Bones, producing District 9 and The Hobbit, then directing Tintin, all to be done within the next 3 years.

Nevertheless, however, I'm still interested to see if anybody would like to see a Gilgamesh movie and what you would like to see.

I've never read the Epic of Gilgamesh but it would be cool to see a sword-and-sandals movie that was based on a different set of mythology than the usual Roman and Greek.

I just read the book for English and its cool but idk if I want to see a film about it

You should! Go to your local Barnes & Noble and get the Herbert Mason version. Best one there is.

Could be pretty cool. Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf) might be good. Of course, he also did Silent Hill, which sucked ass.

I've only read summaries of the Epic of Gilgamesh. Is it really good?

If you dont mind 4,000 yr old storytelling then yes. Pick up Herbert Mason's version. Great for first-timers.

I don't really think Gilgamesh is worth filming. It's lyrical enough to be effective as an allegorical tale of sorts, but its plot is incredibly basic, with notable plot holes (why do Gilgamesh and Endiku decide they have to trapse off to the Cedar forest to kill its guardian? Were they enjoying themselves too much?) It also rests quite heavily on explicit sex as part of its character motivations- sex is what tames Endiku, for instance. Hollywood doesn't like that.

It's an interesting story, but I think it is more interesting from an anthropological perspective than from the perspective of entertainment.

I'd love to see if anything could be made of it, though!

I had the same issue and answered it. :cwink:

Hollywood loves sex! Sex sells.
