Synopsis

Finding Forrester star Rob Brown steps into the cleats of Heisman Trophy-winning gridiron giant Ernie Davis in director Gary Fleder's inspirational sports docudrama. As a young boy reared in Pennsylvania coal-mining country, Davis dreamed of blasting through the end zone and scoring a triumphant touchdown while fans rose to their feet and cheered. When Davis later became a star running back for the Syracuse Orangemen, his dreams were finally on the way to becoming a reality. Under the wing of coach Ben Schwartzwalder (Dennis Quaid), it seemed as if there is nothing that could stop Davis from entering into the annals of sports history; even during an era in which the civil rights movement was just gaining momentum, this fledgling gridiron giant never once doubted his ability to rise to the top. When Davis was diagnosed with leukemia shortly after being drafted into the NFL, however, his will to survive soon eclipsed his dreams of success.

ugh... another football drama..

football isnt dramatic!!

This is a helluva story, cant wait for this *****!

That is an amazing story.

I'd rather they promote the film as 'his will to survive' rather than 'another football film you've seen a hundred times'.

Nonetheless, it was a very good trailer.

I'm not a big football fan, I didn't know squat about Ernie Davis until I saw the trailers, but I really liked this film. It has a certain mood and tone to it that's a bit different than a lot of other football films.

I know some people are insecure or feel threatened by the themes of this film, but I really don't see why, especially if it's a biopic based on historical events. I'd see if this movie was getting a lot of bad reviews or was a work of fiction, then people's opinions here would be more justified. I'd say, for ANY football fan, it's worth watching. Check the review sites, most of them will all agree.

I give it a 8/10. I'm even leaning to a 8.5/10.

The only thing that truly holds this movie back is its running time. Clocking in at around 126 minutes, the movie could've been ten minutes shorter, IMO.

BTW, don't let the PG-rating fool you.

This movie doesn't pull any punches in the language department. I was actually shocked, but it all plays a large part in the heart and emotion of the story and the character.

But with that aside, this was a great movie, a great sports movie at that.

Yeah I agree...although this might be a great real life story of a great person but I have seen enough football dramas as well and this formula has been done over 1000 times. Guy/girl faces adversity in a sport, guy/girl overcomes adversity in a sport with help of friends and family, guy/girl becomes hero:o

The trailers shown with my viewing:

-Inkheart
-The Soloist
-The Day The Earth Stood Still
-The Tale of Despereaux
-Fast & Furious
-Seven Pounds

But, at the end of the day, you haven't seen the movie and the formula lasts because it works so well.
