“The Reverse-Flash Returns”

HE’S BACK… — When Cisco (Carlos Valdes) gets a vibe of Eobard Thawne (guest star Matthew Letscher), Barry (Grant Gustin) and the team don’t believe it. But, after an attack at Mercury Labs, Christina McGee (guest star Amanda Pays) confirms that the Reverse Flash is back. Meanwhile, Iris (Candice Patton) and Francine (guest star Vanessa A. Williams) share a nice moment that brings Iris closer to her brother, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale). Michael Allowitz directed the episode written by Aaron Helbing & Todd Helbing (#211). Original airdate 1/26/2016.

This is awesome! So glad they are bringing back rf! No idea where it's going to go

This does not make sense.

I thought the first encounter the Reverse Flash had with the Flash, was his conflict with Future Barry of the Original Timeline. He is from a future in which Earth 1 Harrison Wells never was murdered, a world in which Barry had a mother and got together with Iris.

So I don't see how that jives with a pre-killing Harrison wells Reverse Flash running around in this new alternate timeline and fighting an alternate flash that he shouldn't encounter yet.

Basically how can he travel from the original timeline future to the past of the Altered timeline, since he hasn't killed barry's mom yet therefore hasn't created the new timeline being presented.

Well it seems like the Reverse Flash that we get in this episode is the one that supposedly went back into the past in order to learn about The Flash's identity and history, which is why he knew everything that he did at the start of the series.

My take on how this is even all possible is that the Reverse Flash has now become a living paradox. Basically, as a result of traveling through the Speed Force, the original version of the Reverse Flash managed to stumble onto the timeline that he's responsible for creating in the first place. Traveling through the Speed Force is probably what kept him from being erased in the first place.

Was really hoping we'd get to see the beginning of The Flash and Reverse Flash's feud from Thawne's perspective, glad to see they appear to be doing just that, this should be a nice change of pace after last weeks episode.

I'm actually glad that we're going to get an full episode with the Reverse Flash being shown in his original form as opposed to using Earth 1's Wells's face. Who knows? Maybe, this episode will finally help some of the characters in this show move on from associating Earth 2's Dr Wells with Earth 1's given that they keep thinking about "Harrison Wells" as the Reverse Flash.

I'm so curious to see whether we finally learn where the feud between Barry and Eobard comes from.

This about a gazillion times. I've been longing for something like that for a while.

It'll be finally cool to see RF interact with the team. The teaser made it seem like he was a bystander. The team needs to move on fro associating RF with Harrison's face. It'll be cool to see them side by side.

This does make sense in a way. RF has been known to time travel so much that he himself has become a Paradox. So it kinda makes sense that he's back. Just wish they would have done it sooner so they could have him take up filler episodes. RF vs Zoom would be awesome

This does not make sense.

I thought the first encounter the Reverse Flash had with the Flash, was his conflict with Future Barry of the Original Timeline. He is from a future in which Earth 1 Harrison Wells never was murdered, a world in which Barry had a mother and got together with Iris.

This RF might be from another Earth, as opposed to the original RF. He could have went through one of the worm holes that Zoom uses to get back and forth. Since he's from the future, he probably ended up in Earth 1's future, where there' is no RF anymore, then travelled back to our present from there; hence why he said "Gideon, where am i..". He's from another Earth.

Yeah, if it's the Earth 2 or Earth 3 or whatever RF, that makes sense.

The living paradox works too ( it doesn't make sense, but it works), simply because it shrugs its shoulders at the complete mess that the writers have made of time travel.

I mean, when Eddie killed himself and RF was erased, that pretty much undid everything that happened in season 1, because it meant that RF would never exist (which means RF couldn't travel back to the past, because he never exists in the future).

There were other ways to deal with both Eddie and the RF that didn't make such a mess - but hey, the writers screwed up time travel from the first time Barry did it, so they might as well continue on a path that makes no sense.

Sorry to bring that up, I guess it's pretty well travelled ground at this point.

Anyway, regardless of all that, I'm really glad the RF is back, because he's such a great villain.

Personally, I'm hoping for a team up between him and the Flash to take down Zoom, because for the RF, having someone else destroy the Flash would just be wrong.

We'll see how it turns out.

They are working the feels tonight with Joe and Iris.

Best episode of this year, wtf Hunter Zolomon is Jay Garrick doppelgänger

This episode had too much going on that I feel like all of the important plot points were rushed.

I was really hoping Barry would finally open his mouth to Patty and just tell her the truth. It was giving me bad flashbacks to Smallville.

I also feel like the entire episode was a cop out to the RF story because that would have been much more interesting had we seen the future that he comes from. I feel like that story would need its own episode entirely from his perspective.

And I'm guessing Zoom is somehow tied to Jay's doppleganger?

Overall, great potential stories, but too much going on that it all felt underwhelming.

This episode feels out of place with the rest of the season. It could have been an episode from last season.

Quite a twist with Jay Garrick and Hunter Zolomon. I wonder if Jay's counterpart will wear the Reverse Flash suit.

A return to form. Seems like every episode the Reverse Flash is in brings the best out of the writers. I thought Iris was 2-3 on this one. The scene with Francine was a little too soapy and fell flat for me, but the other two went well. This was the best episode for Patty and Barry and ironically their goodbye. Cisco using his powers were ****ing awesome. When he started paradoxing I thought he was going to travel to the other timeline and he'd get his full powe set. Still a huge leap from those little goosebumps he's been getting. Joe was on point as usual. So was Harry. The vets carry this show like Ginoboli and Duncan back in the day. Barry was cool this episode. Gustin got to show range with just about the whole cast. Hunter Zolomon is Earth-1 Jay Garrick. Interesting...

I agree with whoever said this was best episode of the season so far.

I liked it, but a little too much wibbly wobbly timey-wimey for me.

Definitely the best episode this season I like seeing the eobard thawne RF instead of wells the actor did good I didn't get why he had to travel to Barry's time period to figure out what time period the flash was from since he is from the future he could of just checked old newspapers that the flash was in he could of just asked Gideon to pull it up besides that I loved everything else and Holy **** Jays doppelganger is Hunter Zolomon hope they do something with the character

There's SO. MUCH. GOING. ON.

It was a good episode but bloated as all hell. They have a lot of story threads right now, and I hope at least 2 are resolved by next week.

I don't know where they are going with Zoom. I really don't. I hope the Jay doppleganger is just throwing us off the scent of who Zoom really is.

The Patty stuff was cracking me up left and right. Holy crap was that unneeded drama. She should have figured it out way sooner, and they wrote her SOOO WEAK the last two episodes, it's almost insulting. Her whole angle was to trap Barry. She clearly doesn't even want to leave. She was ready to stay for any given reason, and didn't really want to go. She was just being over dramatic to make Barry talk to her. The man with a gun threat at the end was just uncalled for, and really drove the nail into the coffin haha.

Such stereotypical relationship nonsense, it's juvenile writing. I really thought Patty would be above all this high school nonsense. Especially since it has to do with her leaving for school.

Yeah, I agree with others. This episode felt way too bloated. I feel like this episode SHOULD have taken out the arcs featuring Wally and his Mom, along with Caitlin and Jay.

They should have just focused on the Reverse Flash's return and with the Patty thing.

I also feel like they're going backwards with Barry. Didn't Oliver like tell Barry during the recent Crossover that guys like them get to enjoy being with someone while doing their thing? I guess he didn't take that to heart after all.

Barry's whole logic about not wanting to put his loved ones in harms way is very flawed. It would only make sense if he abandoned all of Team Flash as well since they're all very important to him and he hangs out with them on a daily basis. They're practically his surrogate family at this point.

Plus, since Barry cares about people in general, Zoom could just kidnap a random citizen and it would still work.

I liked the episode, but Wells explanation of Reverse Flash's return made ZERO sense. They were better off just having Zoom go back in time to bring Reverse Flash here to torment Barry.

I liked this episode a lot, but the explanation of how RF still exists makes no sense. He was erased from existence! If the Thawne lineage was killed off, there's no way he can live in the future.

And I guess we know who Zoom
is, now?

And I guess we know who Zoom is, now?

Unless the Jay Garrick from Earth 1 (aka Hunter Zoloman) found a way to travel to Earth 2 at the time that Earth 2's Jay became the Flash, then I doubt it's him and since Jay Garrick is the Earth 2 version of Earth 1's Hunter Zoloman, then there's no evil Earth 2 version of him.

On another note, I hated on how this show continued the trend that Arrow seems to have created where they bring in the big bad from the previous season for one episode and really downgrade the level of threat that he once held from the previous season.
