The Fly 2, was it a decent sequel?

I've only seen the first one, and I thought it was excellent. I can't say I've seen the sequel, though. I'll have to check it out!

It's alright. The change in tone quickly becomes apparent when watching it, and it's also obvious that the film chose to rely more on heavy gore and violence than on plot and atmosphere, but overall I guess it's fun in that, "Hey we can root for the monster now instead of being horrified of it" kinda sense.

Felt exactly the same on matters with this one.

I remember it being ridiculous, especially how they resolve everything in a tight blood-spattered bow with the ending. I like how visceral the gore was in the remake, but the remake's sequel took the violence to a level where it was hard to take what I was seeing seriously. Heads pop and faces melt, but by the end I was wondering why this sequel was necessary. For all the gore, there's nothing nearly as memorable as the Brundlefly reveal nor as emotionally brutal as the Cronenberg film.

It's okay, definitely doesn't beat the first one, but enjoyable enough.
It's worth watching.

The only really redeeming quality to this movie was the score, very cool & haunting music. Decent flick otherwise.

I thought the ending was kind of dumb.

You mean to tell me Seth Brundle's son becomes the Fly naturally, but then he becomes human again when he gets into the teleporter with another person?

i dont remember everything. but didnt he play with the computers to seperate human defects with the machine?

I enjoyed it. Obviously not as good as the original, but I liked it. Eric Stoltz was very good in it.

It's a fun creature feature, the scene with the dog was heartbreaking and seeing the ******* get what's coming to him at the end was gratifying.

Doesn't touch Cronenberg's movie, but it's pretty good.

I liked it, it had some more gruesome kills (like the Elevator death and the Face Vomit) and I liked Stoltz. Also, the chick was pretty hot in it.

I can hardly remember any of it enough to give a reasoned answer as to it's quality;

I do remember that it was gory as hell though.

Gory...as...hell.

It was a meh horror movie. The Fly *86* was so much more then just that, it truly was a masterpiece of a sci-fi.

But Stoltz was not bad in it, and some of the scenes were cool. But the dog stuff, and the rest, was just beyond me lol. The movie was still pretty bad IMO ;)

Fly 2 is a really really good movie. I would rate it a 3 1/2 stars out of 5. Whereas the Fly 1 would be 4 1/2 stars.

The thing about Fly 2 is that Eric Stoltz does a decent job in the role of the son, but just doesn't have as interesting a personality as Jeff Goldblum did in the first movie.
A lot of the success of Fly 1 is due to Goldblum's terrific performance.
Stoltz is a good actor but can really come off stiff and bland at times.

The story though was very well written and there are some pretty good action scenes, especially the cool jump from the dock onto the boat, I always loved that part.

Anyway, it's definitely a good follow-up.

Boy, tell me about it! Cronenberg's film has to be one of, if not THE most emotionally engaging and stirring horror films i've ever seen. So many things happen to these people and it's so miserably tragic that it just makes it so hard to watch anymore, lol.

That was actually my thesis for my critical analysis paper in one of my film classes this semester. I kinda hated it, as it didn't come out as i intended it(felt it was all over the place and poorly written), but my professor apparently got a kick out of it, as i aced the class.

But from what i remember of The Fly 2, it was alright. More of a straight up monster/gore film. But i have a friend who loves this movie, more than the first one.

It was pretty good. Like others have said, not as good as the original but pretty good.

Decent sequel? Yes... especially when compared to sequels released since then.
