I nod. Just what I expected. "Very well. Send a reply. I've received their orders. They'll have my logs shortly, and we're plotting course to Starbase 17."

"Aye, sir."

I turn back to the front. "Ensign...Chekov..."

"Course plotted and laid in, Keptain."

I'm surprised. "...Very good, Ensign. Mr. Sulu, ahead warp factor 4."

"Aye, sir." There's a slight vibration as the ship goes superluminal and the stars and the screen seem to streak by. "Warp factor 4, sir. Estimated time of arrival, three point six days."

"Very good, Lieutenant."

"Captain."

Jim and the rest of the crew turn and look at me. Along with that alien Spock. His cold eyes unnerve me.

" Lieutenant Mitchell gone, who will be our first officer now?"

The car braked, the back wheels skidding slightly as it span to a stop in the parking lot. Angel hopped out of it followed shortly by Gunn and Wesley who were carrying a duffel bag in one hand and a crossbow in the other.

"Remind me again with we're walking into town?" Gunn asked, slinging the bag full of weapons over his shoulder.

"I don't want my car trashed," Angel said stoicly, swinging the great sword in a few arcs.

The trio walked into the dark town of Barrow warily, waiting for the numerous vampires to start crawling out of the woodwork.

"I expected there to be some kind of reaction by now," Wesley noted, his face contorting into a frown.

"I know Marlow. He'll wait and watch, see what we do when we see the first vampires. Get as much information on the opposition as possible," Angel said, resting his sword against the back of his neck.

His head pricked up as he heard sounds of shouting and screaming in the distance. Angel sprinted, the sword still held in one hand near the back of his neck. He instantly saw a group of vampires crowding around a family of three, the father standing protectively over his wife and child. He swung the sword in a great arc, using the momentum from his run. It connected with the vampire's neck, severing the head and instantly turning it do dust. He turned to look at the group briefly before the vampires struck again.

As Spike dusts another vampire he is suddenly aware of the presences of several new arrivals. Footsteps running toward him, an axe swings, another vampire is dust.

"Spike?!"

He spins toward the direction of the familiar voice, and stops cold when he sees Angel and his lackeys standing there.

"Oh, Bloody Hell."

" Lieutenant Mitchell gone, who will be our first officer now?"

My eyes go wide with surprise. Spock's eyebrow goes up with curios nature of McCoy's comment. Everyone else on the bridge starts glancing at each other.

I stand up. "If you have a minute to spare, Doctor." Bones nods. "Mr. Spock, if you'd join us."

Spock nods, stands, and follows us into the turbolift.

I grab the lift control. "Briefing Room One." The lift ride is short and the doors open. I gesture for the pair to enter the room. I walk in behind them and the doors close.

"Just what the hell was that, Bones?!"

"I'm not sure I follow your line of thought, Jim."

"I'm not sure I follow your line of thought, Jim."

"You barge onto my bridge and just ask in front of everyone who my new first officer is going to be?"

My anger grows. "What were you thinking, Doctor? That I wouldn't need to deliberate on who would be best to replace Gary? That I wouldn't like to talk with his replacement first in private before announcing it the the whole crew?!"

I'm pretty much shouting at this point. How could McCoy do such a thing. Gary just died! I killed him not two days ago! Spock stands stoically, eyebrow up in consideration. McCoy has much the same expression.

And then I realize that it's not really McCoy I'm angry at. It's me. And it's the loss of my best friend.

"...I'm sorry. I didn't mean that." I sit down in my chair at the head of the table and lean back, rubbing my eyes. "I'm just tired..."

I smile a little. "Wish I could, Bones. But you were right. I need to choose an interim First Officer." I stand up. "And as next in line, that would be you, Mr. Spock."

I scowl and look between Kirk and Spock.

"Him? HIM?! Really, Jim? You want that....alien as second in command?"

He spins toward the direction of the familiar voice, and stops cold when he sees Angel and his lackeys standing there.

"Oh, Bloody Hell."
Angel stepped forwards and grabbed Spike by the lapels of his jacket, bringing his face closer.

"What the hell are you doing here?" he growled.

I scowl and look between Kirk and Spock.

"Him? HIM?! Really, Jim? You want that....alien as second in command?"

"Really, Doctor. I find it hard to believe a man with your education would use a person's species as a determining factor of their worthiness for a position. And, I would remind you that I am half-human."

"Bones, I'm surprised at you." I really am. I always knew that these two had a difference of opinion. But this has caught me off guard.

"Good to finally meet you too."

Felix shakes their hands, then looks at me.

"Um, this is agent...Carmichael. Charles Carmichael."

I stick my hand out and shake Felix's, shivering the whole time. "Chuck. Y-you can call me Chuck." I notice Sarah and Casey looking at me. "Or Charles. That's fine too."

"Chuck," Sarah says with a brief glare, "is our...analyst."

"Ah, we could use some intel," Felix says. "They kept this a need to know, and I think my team now needs to know now that we're here."

"We'll be sure to brief you as soon as we get to someplace more secure, and hopefully warmer."

Felix smiles. "Just follow us."

His team leads us towards what must be the airport's main terminal. Or...only terminal, I guess.

I decide to try and strike up a conversation to keep my mind of the cold. "S-So...Felix. What brings you up here." He raises an eyebrow at me. I nod my head to quickly as I speak. "I mean, I know why you're up here. O-orders and all that. But, um, I guess I'm trying to ask, um..."

"Why me?"

"Yeah, t-that's it," I say, utterly deflated and embarrassed.

"I was wondering that myself. Don't you normally liaison with MI-6?"

Felix's eyes go distant for a second and a little smile crawls on his face. "You could say that. I'm sort of a...specialist when it comes to dealing with one of their agents." And he just leaves it there.

Of course, I can't. "Oh yeah, which one?" I ask innocently.

"Need to know, Mr. Carmichael." We finally reach the terminal doors and they open. A blast of almost too warm air greets us and I feel like my face is melting. And, noticing the water dripping down it, I realize it actually is.

We all filter inside, and Leiter closes the door behind us. "We can talk freely now. My people secured this building when we arrived. So, tell me, why are we here?"

We look at each other for a second. "Are you aware of Fulcrum?" Sarah asks.

"Them? I haven't been involved in any missions against them before, but I know them. Sounds like every time we make progress against them, they somehow crop up stronger."

"That's them," Casey growls. "We think they infiltrated Barrow and the CIA research facility."

Leiter nods and consideration. "That would explain things. We got here yesterday, but couldn't make contact with anyone in town, or in the facility."

"So you just stayed here?" I ask.

"SOP. We hole up here and wait for the rest of our team. I was hoping you'd know a lot more about what's going on."

"The plan had been to enter town and try and find any known Fulcrum agents. But if the whole town is compromised..."

"We skip the town, go right to the facility. If Fulcrum's got that..."

"No telling what secrets they could pull from it. Sounds like a plan to me. Get your gear up and get to the trucks," Felix orders his team.

"Uh, so...we're going into a fight?"

Casey smugly smiles, satisfied with the thought. "Sounds like it, Chuck."

"Oh, ok. So, maybe I should stay in the car?"

"Heh. Car's commin' with us." I obviously look scared. "Don't worry, Chuck. It'll be fun."

"That's what I'm afraid of..."

"Don't give me that, Jim. You've seen the way he's always looking at us, sizing us up. I just don't trust him."

"I assure you, Doctor. I mean no harm and my intentions are for the best."

"Yeah, well. I don't want him running this ship.T he way he thinks, the whole 'logic' crap? If he's captain, that's going to get uskilled when we're in a scrap. I want a captain like you, Jim. A man who can think with his heart and not just his head."

"As a doctor, I would assume you know that it is the brain, not heart, that does the thinking."

I look at Spock. I could almost swear he was teasing Bones. Damn near goading him. But he's Vulcan. They don't do that....do they? I realize not for the first time how little I know of this man and his people.

"Gentlemen, please."
I put both my hands up. "I need an interim first officer until we reach Starbase. Mr. Spock, as my third in command, the job falls to you."

Spock nods slightly. "Of course, sir."

"Very good. Now, I'd like to have a word with Doctor McCoy. Please return to the bridge and take the conn. I'll make the official log entry when I return."

"Yes, Captain." Spock nods to both of us and leaves, the doors closing behind him.

I narrow my eyes at Spock as he leaves the room.

"I apologize for my actions, Jim. But something about Spock, I just never trusted. It's been that way since we set out on this damn mission."

I sit back down in the chair and close my eyes, pressing my thumbs against my forehead. Right now I really wish I could take Bone's perscription and get some rest. "That's ok, Bones. You just surprised me. Didn't really know you felt that way about Spock."

"To be honest, I share some of your concerns. I've never really trusted Vulcans. Too hard to read them. Spock's the only one I've gotten to known. And he's the only Vulcan in Starfleet. I'm not sure how they'll react to him being my having him as my second in command."

"Fleet will probably have some suggestions for a replacement for Gary anyway. Although the decision is ultimately mine." I give Bones a gallows laugh. "Hell, I'll probably be too busy being courtsmartialed to worry about it."

"...I could really use a drink."

"...I could really use a drink."

"To the galley, then. Take two stiff drinks and call me in the morning, doctor's orders." I say with a wink.

Kirk's communicator whistles to life and he hits it.

"Captain." Lt. Uhura says through the small speaker.

"We're approaching a planet and, there seems to be some strange readings."

I look at Kirk and shrug.

"No rest for the needed, huh?"

I smile at Bones and get up from my seat. A little Saurian Brandy from McCoy's personal stash is just the thing I need.

Then the comm signal whistles at me. I sigh and look at McCoy. "Now what?" I press the respond button. "Kirk here."

"Captain." Lt. Uhura says through the small speaker.

"We're approaching a planet and, there seems to be some strange readings."

I look at Kirk and shrug.

"No rest for the needed, huh?"

"Apparently not." We ride the turbolift back up to the bridge where we find a flurry of activity. Spock is hunched over his scanner. "Report," I say, sitting in my chair.

"Gravimetric waves of a type I have never seen before." He continues to scan.

"Source?"

"Approximately seven light days away, bearing 076 mark 4."

I nod just as the ship slightly shutters. "Compensate, helm."

"Increasing power to stabilizers, Captain," Sulu quickly replies.

"What is it, Spock?"

"Unknown. There are several objects that could create this type of disturbance. Half of them theoretical only." He spins in his chair to look at me. "But none could possibly be emanating from a planet."

I quickly look at Spock. "A planet?"

"The source of the waves is a world in an uncharted star system."

I rub my chin with my thumb as I consider this. "...Navigator, lay in a course and prepare to take use in. Starfleet's just going to have to wait."

"Uncharted star system? Sounds like loads of fun. Wonder if we'll meet our deaths at the hands of some undiscovered alien. Or the same old Romulans and Kilngons. If you need me, Captain, I'll be down in the sick bay."

I nod towards Jim and shoot Spock a look as I enter the turbolift and head down to my quarters.

The ship jostles slightly again. The pattern's almost regular, but not quite. "How's it coming, Spock?"

"Mapping of the temporal waves proceeding. Approximately fifteen percent complete."

"Only fifteen?"

"We are still twelve hours from reaching the planet. The waves will get progressively more intense as we move closer."

I nod and stifle a yawn. My yeomen puts a cup of coffee in my hand and I thank her, taking a grateful sip.

"Captain." I look to my right, startled that Spock is standing next to me. "You should get some rest."

I shake my head. "I can't, I need to be..."

Spock steps closer. "Jim, you need sleep. It will take an entire shift to before we enter the system. The waves will be of no hazard until then."

"You're sure about that?" Spock just looks at me. I smile. "Forget I asked. You have the conn Spock. I expect you to contact me if anything happens."

"Understood, sir."

"Don't you need sleep, Spock?"

"Not at the moment, sir. After all, I'm not human."

I look at Spock for a moment. For the second time in the last couple of hours I could swear Spock was joking. I stand up and shake my head, convincing myself it's not possible as I walk to the turbolift. I look back as Spock takes my seat. He'll stay there for a few minutes, long enough to review the ship's status reports, then he'll be right back to his sensors.

The lift drops me off on deck 5 and I walk into my quarters, reviewing everything that's probably happening on the ship in my mind. Scotty's already complaining about what the waves are doing to his engines. Bones will be preping sick bay, hoping he doesn't need to use it. Spock's no doubt already scanning the waves again. And the crew is running drills, just in case...

I lay down on my bed, and slip into darkness before I know it...

"So, anyway. There I was in that bar with this girl. I had tried to pick her up once that night, but she had turned me down and made fun of my accent. I mean my whole situation was totally Kobiashi-Maru." Scotty says with a smile as he sips his scotch in the galley. I sit at the other side of the table with a small glass of good old Kentucky Burbon.

"By the time it gets to last call, she's so drunk that she doesn't recognize me. So what I do is, I change my accent. I start like this."

He clears his throat and his thick Scottish brogue dissapears instantly.

"'Pardon me, miss? Do you require someone to take you home?' And it worked!" He belts out in his regular accent. I laugh and take a sip of my drink.

"Ahh, the good old days in the academy. Those were some good times."

"Amen to that." He says cheerfully and we knock our glasses together in agreement.

The ship starts to shake. Scotty rolls his eyes.

"Damn temporal waves! They're knocking the ship to hell, I don't know if she can take more of this!"

"Come with me to the bridge." I say as I down my shot glass of bourbon.

"I'm pretty sure we're close to the disturbance or whatever that's causing these damn waves."

Scotty nods and finish off his drink. We leave the galley and proceed up the turbolift towards the bridge.

I hope Jim knows what exactly is going on....

Gary and I fight, trading blows. I lay in a flurry of chops and throws. Gary responds with some well laid punches. I finally counter one of his punches, spin Gary around, and toss him to the ground. Leaping on him and straddling his chest, I grab a large rock and hold it over my head, ready to kill my temporarily depowered friend.

"Gary...forgive me."

But as I look down, his eyes becomes silver again, and his powers starting return. He reaches up and grabs my wrists, stopping me from delivering the killing blow.

"For a moment James...but your moment is fading..."

I try to bring the rock down, but he flings me away like a ragdoll. We both get up, and I go on the defenses, backing away. But Gary stalks me, backing me into the rockface behind me.

With no other option, I take a swing, but he grabs my arm with no effort and tosses me down towards the large grave he dug for me. The grave he created with no effort, just a thought.

Gary, his sense of humor now twisted by his fading humanity, decides to lift a large boulder over his head with no effort. Ready to crush me the way I was going to smash his head in. But he leaves me an opening, and I quickly dive tackling his legs, causing both of us to fall into the grave.

While Gary's momentarily stunned, I pull myself out of the grave and scramble for my phaser rifle. Gary stands, but I fire at the cliff face above him. Gary loses his footing in the resulting tremor, falling back into the grave. The tombstone Gary created with my name falls in with him just before the large boulder I'm blasting dislodges and falls, crushing the grave...and Gary.

The ship lurches.

"Gary!" I sit up in the bed, sweating.

The Enterprise lurches again.

"Bridge to-"

"Kirk." I shout, slamming my hand onto the comm button. "Report!" I pull off my shirts and start pulling a fresh uniform on.

"We have entered the system. The temporal waves are growing exponentially in intensity."

"Wait. We're in-system? How long have I been out?"

"Nine hours, twenty-sev-"

"Nine hours?!"

"Yes, sir."

"I wanted...I'm on my way!" I slam the comm line closed and storm out of my cabin.

Senator Nathan Petrelli. He certainly wasn't what Tracy expected.

Tracy had flew into Washington D.C. two days ago to meet the Junior Senator from New York. Apparently he had come to Capital Hill to meet with the president. She'd called him up, scheduled a meeting, and met with him.

Tracy found it easy to talk with him. He was a very smooth-talker, but of course Tracy wouldn't be so easily taken in. The more they talked though, the more Tracy admired Nathan.

He'd come to D.C. to talk to the president about the meta human threat.

Tracy expressed her opinions as well, sparking interesting discussion while knowing deep in the back of her mind that she was a hypocrite.

After all that had happened in the past week, Tracy had no time to reflect upon her new life. She loved her powers - the feeling she had when she used them.

She felt superior. She felt strong. She was different. She could freeze someone until they shattered into a million pieces, leaving no trace but chunks of frozen body.

Maybe it was the loneliness she'd been feeling. Or maybe more time had passed than she thought since she'd been with the governor.

When Tracy Strauss awoke the next morning she found Senator Nathan Petrelli beside her on the bed.

Silence

Silence was all Tracy could hear within Nathan Petrelli's suite in Washington D.C.

As quiet as she could be as to not wake him up, Tracy crept into the living room. Heading towards the large glass window, Tracy opened the blinds to reveal an amazing view of the capital.

She re-wrapped her robe as she headed back into the bedroom. All was the same except New York Senator Nathan Petrelli wasn't in his bed anymore.

Tracy looked through the rooms. How did she not notice he had gotten up?

She briskly turned and found herself face to face with a masked figure who immediately grabbed her.

She grabbed his reaching arm, wrapping her wrist around it

TracyCantFreeze.jpg

Like with her other victims, the man turned to ice and shattered across the floor.

A swift crash and soon Tracy heard footsteps through the complex. She ran for the door and dashed in time to avoid recieving three darts to the head.

She ran out in the hall, and slammed the door behind her, sprinting to the elevator where she would make her escape.

Tracy was beginning to get used to running away.

"Yes, sir."

"I wanted...I'm on my way!" I slam the comm line closed and storm out of my cabin.

The turbolift opens up and Jim walks out a bit disheveled.

"Captain, we are approaching the planet now."

"We are detecting an energy serge." Chekov says as he monitors the controls.

"AHH!" Sulu screams out as an electrical shock courses through his body.

He falls flat on to the floor, his body twitching.

"Nobody touch him! I'll be right back!" I say as I race to the turbolift and head down towards the sick bay.

It takes me a few minutes, but I'm back to the bridge with my bag of equipment.

"Everybody stand back." I say as I look him over with the small scanner.

"He has a heart flutter. I think a cordrazine shot should do the trick."

I pull the small syringe out of my bag and carefully inject a small drop into Sulu's body.

In seconds, his eyes open and he looks around.

"Oh my..." He says jofully as the powerful drug rejuvinates him.

"Thank you doctor!" Sulu reaches for me, with the neddle still in hands, I turn to avoid him, but he grabs me and the neddle pushes right into my stomach, shooting the whole syringe into my body.

"Oh, no." I say as the drug starts to course through my body.

I know what an overdose of cordrazine does to a person, it makes them paronoid and delusional. But I feel fine, it's so odd.

That's when I catch the looks on the faces of everyone on the bridge. Their scowls and dirty looks, like they hate me. Like they want to get rid of me.

"No...."

I stand up as they start to inch towards me with their hateful looks.

"Stay back....st-stay back."

One of the ensigns puts a hand on me, I quickly grab it and shove him away.

"Assassins!" I scream as I run to the turbolift and dissapear down into the ship.

The turbolift opens up and Jim walks out a bit disheveled.

The ship bucks under us, and lights flicker with overloads. I grab onto the railing to keep from being knocked off my feat.

"AHH!" Sulu screams out as an electrical shock courses through his body.

He falls flat on to the floor, his body twitching.
"Sulu!" I rush down to help.

"Nobody touch him! I'll be right back!" I say as I race to the turbolift and head down towards the sick bay.

"Cordrazine? Are you sure? That's tricky stuff. Couple of drops too much..." But Bones ignores me.

I pull the small syringe out of my bag and carefully inject a small drop into Sulu's body.

In seconds, his eyes open and he looks around.

"Oh my..." He says jofully as the powerful drug rejuvinates him.
Bones gives me a look, wondering if we still wanted to teach him medicine. I smirk. "Nicely done, Bones."

"Thank you doctor!" Sulu reaches for me, with the neddle still in hands, I turn to avoid him, but he grabs me and the neddle pushes right into my stomach, shooting the whole syringe into my body.

I jerk forward, reaching towards McCoy. Spock grabs the hypospray from the floor and examines it. "Empty..."

"Bones..."

"Assassins!"

I scream as I run to the turbolift and dissapear down into the ship.
"Spock! Take the conn! Get us into a stable orbit." I slam my hand on the comm button on the arm of my chair. My voice echos throughout the ship. "This is the captain. Security alert, all decks. Be on the look out for Dr. McCoy. If you find him, contact me and take him directly to sick bay."

I point at the security guard on duty as I run up to the turbolift. "You're with me." I grab the turbolift control. "Deck 5." I can only hope Bones is running to his quarters or sick bay...

I creep through the halls of the ship. They're after me, they think I'm crazy. I'm sane, they're all just after me. Kirk and his flunkies are already starting to comb the ship for me. That's why I'm going to out smart them.

I sneak into the transporter room, a young ensign mans the controls. I sneak up behind him and grab him from behind.

"Sweet dreams!" I mumble as I start to choke him. He struggles and passes out.

I let his limp body go and run straight into the transporter. I hate this damn thing, but it's my only salvation.

I close my eyes as the beam hits me and sends me down to the planet that caused all this damn mess.
