The full man of steel prequel comic online

If you read the Prequel comic (link below) then you'll understand that there was a easter egg in the movie referencing Kara Zor-El (Supergirl).
When Clark first walks into the scout ship, he sees a suspended animation pod with an old Kryptonian corpse in it and then he looks away at another pod and seees that it's open(Kara's pod?).
What I'm wondering- Is Kara in the movie universe a cousin of Clark or is she a ancestor of Clark. In the movie Zod tells Clark that they found him, because he set off a signal when he activated a ancient scout ship. So if the scout ship is ancient to Zod then you can't say Kara was around when Clark (Kal-El) was a infant.
