The future of Quinten Tarantino

I have no problem with QT's recent films. Kill Bill is among his best, second only to Pulp Fiction. He has already made a "mature" film, the criminally underrated Jackie Brown. Death Proof, while not his best, still shows that he can take a tired genre and make it fresh.
He's doing the type of movies that he loves, why do we need to force him to make films like everyone else? He's still head and shoulders above any other American director working today, yes including Scorsese.

Your ******ed since he basically just rips off the masters for prepubescant boys :whatever:

Tarantino, for his part, has always been open and unapologetic about appropriating ideas from films he admires. When confronted about stealing ideas from dozens of movies, he stated, "I lift ideas from other great films just like every other great filmmaker."

Rumors are he's contemplating on doing a half-life movie.

There was a big rumor last year that Tarantino was going to be doing Friday the 13th Part XII. Like that, I'm sure it's just more false rumors.

I guess Shakespeare was a rip-off artist also? Picasso?

THere's a difference between rip-off and inspired. Just look at Scorcesse latest, The Departed. It's a remake for starter, it obviously harkens back to classic gangster pictures where it does indeed borrow many plot conventions, however adds it own so it's fresh and original, instead of just being sleek and hollow.

But he actually did contemplate directing a James Bond movie. Personally, I think Tarantino works better doing his own thing. It would suck if he directed a franchise film.

Let me clarify something, I enjoy QT's films however I just think it's ******ed when people act like he some genius when he just rips off a bunch of other films, not ht at he isn't talents but he isn't no Scorsese :cmad:

The difference is that when someone is stealing, they don't want you to know. Tarantino, whether you like his films or not, obviously wants you to get his references. Just like Scorsese did with the last scene of Goodfellas, Tommy firing directly at the viewer.

Bad artists copy. Great artists steal."

I didn't say he was as good as Scorsese, I'm not saying he isn't either, that's a matter of preference.
What I did say was that since QT's debut, I think his output has been better than Scorcese's. This of course excludes Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Goodfellas The King Of Comedy and Raging Bull.

I'd also say that for someone who seems to enjoy a serious debate about film, your use of the word ******ed to describe something you don't agree with is um... ******ed.

really didn't like Kill Bill films and Death Proof was way over hyped. Tarantino hasn't really made a good film since Jackie Brown IMO. I did like his CSI episode.

If he does indeed 'rip-off' other films he is still a genius for how he presents his films.

I absolutley despise Quentin Tarantino and I believe that if he -never- involved himself in another movie ever again in any way shape or form, motion picture cinema would be infinately better off for it.

false. he's not better than a lot of american directors working today, especially not scorsese.

i would love to see Quinten Tarantino take a crack at the Escape from New York remake. i was talking to midnhtsun about it and i was thinking...

...THE BEST THING about Escape from New York is Snake Plissken and a lot of why he was so awesome to watch was because he has a lot of attitude. well..."attitude" is Quinten Tarantino's middle name. all of the characters in his films, regardless to how important they are, have attitude and personality to them. not to mention we know he can do action and gritty violence (Kill Bill, Death Proof).

i think he'd be the perfect director for the EfNY remake.

Yeah that would be pretty cool. He can remake the entire film using feet. Feet who make pop culture references.

The odds of him getting a remake like that are unlikely. He's so focused on making originals with his tributes, but not rushing to get them made or making up his mind between his projects.

I think the only reason we got DEATHPROOF was Robert prodding him to get it going for GRINDHOUSE.

i know the odds, twilight. i'm just saying i think he'd be perfect for the project given his style of directing...

Doubt he would take it on though. He's either been booted off (HALLOWEEN 6) or rumored for the films, which turn out to be false in the long run.

I would have actually liked to see his take on Casino Royale. I remember he was possibly attached while they were shopping the idea around.

i don't think his style is suited for Bond. even though Bond has a lot of attitude, i don't recall seeing a Tarantino scene where the character is supposed to be suave and classy. all of his movies deal with rotten, corrupt, scummy-type characters. it would've been INTERESTING to see Tarantino direct Bond...but i'm not sure i would've liked it as a Bond film.

Doubt he would take it on though.

i heard you the first 3 times, twilight. you don't have to keep repeating it to me...
