I am copying out parts of articles I have found on mtv.com:

Better than most, Raimi knows what it takes to get bunches of kids into a theater on a Friday night. So naturally, during our exclusive interview with the ground-breaking filmmaker, we had to get the latest scoop on his other seismic projects, including "Spider-Man 4."

"Right now, a writer is being sought to write the next installment," Raimi said of the future of Peter Parker, following Marvel's recent separation from original "Spider-Man 4" writer David Koepp, who also wrote the script for the first film. "We're in the very early stages."

When last we spoke with the director of the first three Spidey movies, he mentioned plans to work both the Lizard and the supervillain group the Sinister Six into the next blockbuster flick. Over the last few months, however, Raimi and Marvel have decided to be more receptive of reinvention. "I won't be working on the story," he revealed, insisting he'll adopt a hands-off approach. "It'll be a brand-new writer coming in with a brand-new story — a fresh take on the Spider-Man series."

This "fresh take" might not only include the comic's most obscure supervillains, but also entirely new story lines that diverge from (or even contradict) plot details from the three Tobey Maguire flicks. "We're hearing different versions right now and really enjoying the different stories," Raimi said. "Hopefully, we'll hear one that sounds right for the fourth installment."

Asked if he'll then make the key decision to direct the script or take a step back as solely a producer, Raimi nodded. "Yes, that's right. In this case, it's more in the writer's hands. I'm going to let the writer envision where Peter Parker would go to next."

In the months following the success of "Spider-Man 3" and Topher Grace's breakout baddie, Venom, Marvel revealed plans for a spinoff flick. For the first time, Raimi weighed in on his connection with that flick, remaining consistent with a supposedly less-than-enthusiastic attitude toward the terrifyingly tongued alien. "That's probably for someone else," he grinned.

Do you guys like this? Do you think that the movie storyline should be continued on or start fresh? If it starts fresh, then its highly doubtful Tobey and Kirsten will come back. But do you think Raimi should come back?

To reboot now would render the last five years a waste of time.

I'm sure (or at least, I hope) that "fresh start" refers to a new story. Two of the main plots running through Raimi's trilogy were Harry's story and Uncle Ben's death. Since SM3 gave closure to both of those plots, SM4 has plenty of new ground to break in terms of storytelling, which I assume is the fresh start.

It should have a fresh start in the sense of a new direction, but no reboots

Man, what is Raimi's problem with Venom? He's a badass character Raimi, not The Vulture's of the world!

Sony ain't starting their 2.4 Billion dollar franchise over, SORRY HATERS, rebooting is for comic book movies that has lost a great number of their audience, and trying to figure out a way to get them back. This is not the case for Spider-Man at all. Plus, I want my Spidey to come with baggage for the 4th film, knowing what he's been through and the villains that he has fought (GG, Doc Ock, GG2/Harry's death, Sandman, Venom/The symbiote). It makes things more interesting. Especially with Connors waiting to become THE LIZARD after being seen in SM2/SM3.

Of course, if they do reboot (which I seriously doubt) it would surprise the living hell out of me. And being that Raimi says "I'm going to let the writer envision where Peter Parker would go to next." This indeed implies that SM4 is a continuation.

I hope Raimi and the cast return, but I hope they'll get a talented, new writer on the fourth one, bringing a new story, with fresh stuff, and interesting aspects... but not a reimaging. I don't want the next Spidey to be abruptly different, I want to see what happens next to Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, Kirsten Dunst's MJ and so on...

I actually want to see David Koepp return to pen this thing, with the entire cast back, of course.

If they do a reboot, I'd like to see the the story pick up about 5-7 years from where we left off. Looks like it would be at least that long before we saw another movie, anyway.
Peter and MJ married, Aunt May out of the picture, maybe even a cameo by Iron Man, since he will be established by then, or maybe even Cap. America, but keep it strictly a cameo.
Villians, I'm apathetic about. Kraven, Teh Lizert, whoever.
What I DONT want is a Peter Parker that never grows up. I would like to see him out of college, having a job, blah blah.
Maguire won't be back, unless they offer him a guarantee of around 40 mil. Who to cast? For god's sake, get rid of Dunst. She is ugly as homemade sin. Get a girl that is actually hot as hell. Megan Fox? It's a horny fanboy dream, but dye her hair red, and I'm all for it...

I agree about Dunst but I disagree about Fox.

Why? She's hot yes but she has no acting chops. She was by far the weakest link in Transformers. Easy on the eyes but she added nothing else to the movie whatsoever.

I'd rather have a semi-hot girl that knows how to handle the character and portray her properly than a super-hot girl who doesn't really captivate me with her acting skills. Add to the fact that she couldn't even handle playing a no-name character as Mikaela. How can she handle playing a high profile superhero role in Mary Jane?

Can we please get a Mary Jane that looks good and acts better than kids in a high school drama?

Yeah, you're right. I was basically having MF withdrawal since I haven't seen Transformers since it was in the theater.
I'd like to see one of those "girl next door" types for MJ. Now I'm not saying in any way cast her in the role, as she is irritating as **** when she opens her mouth, and she is way to old, but someone like Rachel Ray. She's hot in that beleivable way, but she looks like someone you would have actually see out and about running around.
I think she epitomizes the "girl next door" look. The illusion is spoiled, however, when she opend her mouth.

I understand what you're saying, but no. Rachael Ray is not hot at all.

exactly....I'd like to AT LEAST see the whole Lizard angle resolved before they reboot the series. You have Dr. Connors in three movies (okay only mentioned in the first movie) and then go nowhere with it?

David Koepp doesn't know how to write spider-man. I was watching snakeeyes the other day and realised he recycled some of his dialogue in that film and used it in sm1. Talk about being half-assed.:o

I would love to tap Rachael Ray's ass, then tell her to cook me something in the nude.

A reboot after only 3 years would be quite confusing for the casual movie-goers...
