The Gaming Lounge: Beyond - Part 6

I thought they'd be trying to do that the other way round and use the 3DS functionality to enhance the wii U experience. The 3DS doesn't exactly need a whole lot of help.
Thats likely true. The Wii U is the console thats struggling. The 3DS and its games sell fairly well.

Smash Bros isn't going to need help on Wii U. No matter how low the install base is, the sales will be incredibly strong for it. Proof is in the original and Melee on the N64 and GC, respectively, selling roughly as much on their respective systems as Brawl did on the mammoth god king hardware seller of the Wii. No, I think it was simply an idea they had to create two versions side-by-side because they know both will sell well. Just the way they went about it is not the best solution for the Wii U if they're really cutting out characters just because the 3DS can't support enough characters based on it's much, much lower end hardware.

If the install base is too low the only way to sell loads is for people to buy the game who don't own the system or for people to buy multiple copies. :woot:

Well, yeah, I guess I shouldn't have said no matter how low, but I think by next year most of the Nintendo faithful and SSB fanatics will have probably already gotten the system for Smash, or will get the system then for it.

I figure the Nintendo faithful have already purchased the Wii U and being the ONLY people who have purchased that system.

Unfortunately, i think you are going to see a LOT more of this(meaning gimped or omitted versions of games). I think going forward devs are just going flat out ignore the system, or arent going to spend a lot of time and or money developing for the system. I mean we are already seeing AAA titles bypass the machine completely. As we get further into the upcoming generation of consoles, thats only going to be more evident.

Well, this situation is different. We're not talking about a 3rd party developer, we're talking about Nintendo. Why they would do something to essentially self-gimp one of their biggest franchises is beyond me. You would think that would be the one developer who would try to avoid that **** at all costs.

I haven't bought one yet but I will once Smash Bros. Mario kart, Mario, and Zelda come out. I think you'll see the Wii U go up big time in sales once these games start rolling out

Yeah, I'm sure we'll see more sales bumps when various big hitters finally come (in new, original games, not ports and remakes). The Wii U won't be another Wii, though; I think that's apparent. It will, as Pat said, probably end up a lot like the Wii in the 3rd party department, maybe even worse so since the hardware sales are not the unignorable beast that the Wii was.

I don't understand why the wii U version has to be dumbed down then if they're going to be independent games. This is a very important game for the system. They should be going all out. If the 3DS can help great, if not then it shouldn't be relevant and certainly shouldn't have a negative impact on their product that is facing challenging conditions.

They won't have cross platform play obviously, but Nintendo seems pretty intent on creating some kind of cross platform synergy from the two games. Why is anyone's guess.

They even kept the same soundtrack. Tell me I'm not the only one who played this back on the SNES.

Anyone else trying to get into the Infinite Crisis beta? I'm kind of a casual MOBA player, so I'm trying to get into the ground floor of this one.

Anyone play DQIX on the original DS? I happen to see that mentioned somewhere recently, and it reminded me of it. I thought about getting it when I had a DSi, but ended up selling the DSi. It's super cheap now, but I'm not familiar with the franchise.

I can't look for that stuff on my own all the time. Sometimes I just want to be lazy. :o

From what I read some video game internet guy called Phil Fish a hipster piece of **** or some such, Fish got upset and engaged in x-treme twitter war (1!11!) and then announced he was done with video games.
