The Gas Price Rollercoaster Thread

So does anyone else here question why the price of gas has dropped inexplicably in the last two months or is everyone just glad to see it go down and don't give a ****?

From what I understand the demand for oil has dropped considerably and the price of oil itself has dropped as well, which ultimately has an affect on gas prices. Personally I don't care about the aspects of it, I'm just happy to see it go down and not worry about the majority of my paycheck going to gas.

I would've LOVED to have seen $1.65 during the Summer. That way when I was getting 200, 300, and 400 dollar checks I didn't have to spend the chunk of it on gas.

Overall a lot of it has to do with the price of oil going down and the demand for oil going down as well.

Gas went back down to $1.56 a gallon.

The gas prices have dropped because of the global economy and not as much demand for oil.

If I were a conspiracy theorist I would say that gas is lower because Bush got all of the money out of it he could while being president. Now that he's leaving, gas prices can return to normal.

This has me rather concerned.

supply and demand along with less speculation......sometimes works.

Gas is now at $1.69 a gallon.

$1.45 and it seems to have stabilized. Even oil has creeped back up a few dollars and stabilized.

$1.23 TODAY, yes....................

It's been $1.74 here for a week.

gas is low cuz it wuz high so no one bought as much which made it lower becuz no one needed as much... to encourage others to buy it it's cheap... so if we stay at the same usage of it then does that mean it gets to stay 1.50 ish?... cuz i can live with that

First, type in English, second, that is partially right.

The Laws of Supply vs Demand state that if Demand is low, prices are going to fall till it meets a stable price, if Supply is high, prices are going to fall till it meets a stable price, but if Demand is high and supply is low, prices increase until it can satisfy or reduce demand.

During the summer, Demand was at an all time high, most of which were in the futures market, but as the economy began to slump, future prices fell, but the supply was still high. They have to reduce the prices, to quickly reduce supply, as to later increase prices when deman and supply meet again.

My fear is, and what I've heard several Liberal Commentators say lately is, Reduced Gas Prices is almost like a Pay Raise for all Americans, and in that, Washington should raise Gas Taxes, so people don't get used to buying Gas this cheap. Problem is, once theres a new tax on something, it's very, very hard to get rid of it.

All, in all, the Gas Prices being at an 8 year low, is NOT necessarily a good thing when you look at the Big Picture.

then hope to God that we still live in America and not China... oh wait... we're under socialism and democrats so we WILL get that tax. Sorry about my improper usage of the English language.

Yes, because the American government is comparable to the Chinese government, even with its various socialist policies... like how we have outlawed religion, censored books, and have made forums like SuperheroHype illegal....

just trying to make a point. i did not mean to offend china if that's what bugged you so much mr. "must be a precise insult if you're going to do it"

What bugged me was your inane comparison of socialism to the communist government in China. They are not mutually exclusive.

What was funny, yesterday Para brought up in the Economy Thread, that China was thinking about Reducing Taxes!

Thats what we need to stimulate the Economy, a cut in Taxes, a cut in Federal, State and Personal Spending.

Michael Moore can keep his stale donuts.

My mistake. I do not claim to be a professional. I claim that America is soon to be run in a way that is socialistic, China was the first country that came to my mind.

Even though there are twenty or so governments which are socialist, and China is widely known to be communist. That's like if I said "China is becoming so like a democracy, soon it will be like North Korea!"
