The General Comic Discussion Thread - Part 2

Out of curiosity, isn’t there a visible difference between a Kindle and a smartphone, in terms of colors, zoom? Maybe, I will try to convince to get me a Kindle for Christmas
Never read on a Smartphone, i dont like the idea of zooming in so much to read the Text while Losing what im looking at.
Kindle, Laptop, tablet, whatever Works for you should be enough.

When I read comics online, I usually use my tablet. A smartphones screen is way too small to read some of the print. But you could always just connect your phone or tablet to your TV and read it that way.

But i See the positive in it...i Support Good comics twice, once when i buy Digital issues and once when i buy the Volumes physical.
I read a ton of comics on my phone off DC Universe Infinite and off of Hoopla. Then I will buy some physical copies.

If I purchased physical copies of everything that I read, I’d be living out of a cardboard box (a big box to house all of the comics.)

Plus, I don’t think that I could begin to find half of the old Bronze Age stuff that I read. This month alone, I read over 20 issues of House of Mystery. But my LCS only has a couple of back issues of those and they are pricey.

Digital definitely has its advantages, especially the streaming service.

In another note, have there been any announcements about The Last Days of Lex Luthor? Issue #1 came out like a year ago and I’ve been waiting for the rest ever since. It seems like it has fallen through the cracks. But good heavens, it was a great start!
I haven't seen any solicits for issues 2 and 3, but I recall seeing a listing for the hardcover collection on some online DC Collections catalog. Amazon currently shows it listed for release in June of 2025. No idea of that's a generic placeholder date and if it means issues 2 and 3 will be making appearances soon or if DC is just gonna package it all together instead of releasing the issues.
Since this Bruce is a city engineer/construction worker... it kinda makes sense his Batmobile looks something like this, just on steroids lol!

Point taken. I guess the disconnect with me is that in my mind, Poor Batman doesn't have resources to trick that out, let alone and more importantly, hide that. Unless it's supposed to be a one time thing.

I get that advancements in technology and their accessibility to every day people have come a long way, but this seems like Snyder's try-hard approach quickly seeping in.

Its a shame, i really liked the failsafe arc a lot.
But the constant interference of Events and stuff...hurt his run a lot.
Exactly. I loved his run, and it did a lot to undue some of the junk that DiDio and Tynion did. Batman is kind of a mess right now. There are three relationships that are critical to Batman: Alfred, Gordon and Dick. And they’ve removed two of the three. And then Tynion removed Bruce’s wealth as well. It is quite stupid really. But at least Zdarsky has taken steps to have the Bat family rally around Bruce. It’s been a good development, and has given some positivity to an otherwise downtrodden period.

Absolute Power really torpedoed a lot of momentum that several titles were building, and it did it with a story that no one was asking for with a villain that nobody likes. Has anyone ever said “you know what I love? A good Amanda Waller story.” No. No one has ever said those words.

I just read Christopher Priest’s Black Adam. I read it in two days. I had started it when it was first released but lost track of it. But reading it in one single run, I now appreciate it for the masterpiece that it is.

Wow. I just read the conclusion of Absolute Power. That truly was absolute garbage.

Why do writers tend to write Ollie, Hal, and Barry as complete and utter jerks? Having Ollie, who just basically played double agent, betraying everyone sit there and say “with all due respect to the Titans, we should be running the show” really makes him look like an arrogant punk.

It’s also strange that this story went out of its way to present Nightwing as total badass just to have the older heroes come in and say “thanks for all you did, now back to the sidelines for you.” It really makes no sense.

I've been playing a bunch of catch-up lately as life has been very busy. Plus, my typical to-read pile hit a derailment when I found in a thrift shop a stack of about 15 comics of Awesome Comics-era Alan Moore or reprints of Baby Alan Moore's 2000AD short stories and started reading all of that stuff instead. One of the collecting goals of mine to complete the Alan Moore bibliography so this made a nice dent.

That said, as a resident Tom King apologist, I made Jenny Sparks a priority to read this week and I have to say: this book sucks. Much like Heroes in Crisis, the story really doesn't have any solid foundation. Things just sorta happen until we come to the "To Be Continued" caption. The difference between the two works however is that HiC had an idea of a foundation and an emotion resonance strong enough to keep me reading until it went off the rails. In Jenny Sparks, I have no idea what's happening. I have no idea when it's happening. Three issues deep, the roots of the narrative have really not been planted. I don't care about any of the characters, let alone the titular one. I usually appreciate when King swings big. His misses are still more interesting than like 95% of everything else. But this is just straight bad.

You could see the Twist coming from ten miles, which doesnt make it better or prepares you for how bad it was.
Its on all accounts a weak way to end the whole Event, but i dont think anybody expected a stronger ending.

They did nothing with the whole "The Titans will lead the Superheroes" and end it in an equal as lackluster way.
We really need a longer break from these big crossover events at this point...they just dont hit the right notes and i think thats mainly because we get them constantly.

Absolute Power on its own isnt a bad idea of an event, but after dozens of events and again them interfering with good runs...people are just not invested in these big events at the moment.

Of course he didnt say anything about Absolute Batman...but the comic with the Female is bought etc.
And of course it ends with "ugly women" ignoring that the Internet for Months pledges its allegiance towards Absolute Wonder Woman.

Grifters and Loser the whole bunch of these comicsgate weirdos.

What happened here? I can’t say much because I’m still waiting to read it and am avoiding spoilers. But is that bad? I have no idea who this person is. I’m terrible with names.
Comicsgate is all you need to know. They are severe right-wing fringe. It would be a shocker if they weren’t disgusted by Wonder Woman

JDA did take shots at Absolute Batman. I ran into his channel when I was looking up reviews for it. He made videos probably 2 months before it came out saying the sales were going to be lackluster and DC isn't happy with it lol.
