John Crowley is in talks to direct the highly anticipated adaptation of Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Goldfinch.” Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the sought after novel in 2014 and tapped Peter Straughan to adapt the script. With a script now in, Crowley soon rose to the top of the list of people to helm the project and insiders now say an offer has been put on the table. The story, which takes place over two decades, follows a 13-year-old boy who loses his mother in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He survives the explosion, steals the Carel Fabritius painting the Goldfinch, gets taken in by an Upper East Side family and eventually reunites with his father, an alcoholic gambling addict who takes him to Las Vegas.

Crowley is coming off “Brooklyn” which was nominated for several Academy Awards including Best Picture.

Warner Bros. is finalizing a deal with Amazon Studios to co-finance its film adaptation of Donna Tartt’s “The Goldfinch,” Variety has learned. As part of the pact, Amazon will invest more than a third of the movie’s budget, which is estimated to be in the $40 million range, according to insiders. In return, it will get streaming rights to the picture on its Prime service.

It will also launch the picture on home entertainment platforms in what is commonly referred to as the pay-TV window, the term for when movies debut on premium cable channels such as HBO and Showtime. Warner Bros. will distribute the film in theaters worldwide. There were several other parties interested in boarding the project, but Amazon was the most aggressive. The e-retailer believes the project is a good fit for its customer base, because Tartt’s novel was a big seller on its platform. It also views the partnership on the movie as a good branding opportunity.

Yeah I definitely will check this one out. Caught the trailer during Spider-Man.

I thought the trailer looked interesting until I read a synopsis of the book, I don't think this is something I'd enjoy.

I feel like I need to see this on the weekend, but I haven't been hearing a lot of buzz.

Yeah, I thought that this was going to be some kind of event movie by how big the book was.

Guess nobody cares?
