The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

I’d be open to the idea of Frankel, but right now he seems like a better fit for MCU Gambit to me.

I wonder how Jeff Goldblum would be as perry?
Maybe too quirky?

Perry is probably the least interesting member of Supes supporting cast so I would 100% be down for a full reinvention like that. I’m sure there are great stories with him but he never feels like much more than boring shouty newspaper man to me.

I feel like there needs to be a good distinction between Perry and JJ Jameson, Perry I think is much less of a shouty man, I would say Perry should have much more dimension to him than JJ as JJs whole shouty thing is basically his shtick

Probably wouldn’t have changed much in the grand scheme of things, but I’m always a little sad we didn’t get Hugh Laurie’s Perry in Superman Returns.

I was thinking about this a few weeks ago but the forums here were down so i never was able to bring it up, but I wondered if James Gunn considered the idea of asking Nathan Fillion to play Jonathon Kent.

I find it to be such a strange movie, I feel like nothing happens in it. Somehow it feels like characters just get one moment of scene time and then they are gone, Its such an empty feeling movie.

Too much time spent on Lex perhaps? I dunno.

The makings for a great film were there, unfortunately, the director got caught up in nostalgia and forgot people want big action with a superpowered villain in their Superman films(s) also.
It didn't help matters that Routh and bosworth had about as much chemistry as oil and water.

You gotta find the right blend in a superman film.
Not too much action, ( mos ) but not too little either, ( SR )

I was watching a clip of Bosworth talking to Routh on the roof top before he takes her flying and it was so stilted and bizarre to watch, it felt like they used the audition tapes.

Yeah. They were both so bad in that movie. Whenever I see people praise Routh’s performance in that, I’m just like, “Huh?” Most of the few lines he had sounded like they were being read off cue cards.

See, that's how I feel whenever I see Cavill praised. His Superman was so dull and lifeless. He had zero personality.

Sure, I can see that too. I just feel like some people think Cavill being dull in the role retroactively made Routh good, which I don’t get. I think they both kinda sucked.

Routh at least redeemed himself when he was given another shot. Cavill just sucked every chance he was given. He never showed any promise.

Eh, I like Caviill in the role and think he would've gotten a much better response under a different/ better direction and story. The few times he was allowed to show some emotions other than look angry or worried, I thought he did well.

What movie was this in?

I like Cavill in most of the other stuff he’s been in (Witcher, Enola Holmes, M:I). As for Superman, I thought he was pretty good in MoS but after that it was like he had all the personality sucked out of him. I blame Snyder not knowing (or caring) what to do with him because OOOHHH LOOGIT WE GOT BATMAN NOW but I also can’t give Cavill any credit for those lifeless performances.

I think leaving Superman behind will be good for him; some of the other things he has lined up (Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Warhammer) sound more interesting anyway.

I though he was just as bad in MOS. What exactly changed in BVS or JL? I didn't see any difference. Even in his other movies, he always comes across as stiff and uptight.

It blows my mind when I see others be critical of past Superman actors but defend this block of wood. It can't ALL be on Snyder.
