The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

He looks just like Gary Frank’s Bruce in Earth One. He would be a good Batman probably! Better than Superman.

Eddie I remember someone had a fan cast from sometime around or before 2006 , I think it was a thread called cast the JLA… and I recall someone suggesting Wes Bentley as Dick Grayson. Was that you? I loved that cast. I think they had Kiefer Sutherland as Green Arrow and Viggo Mortensen as Aquaman too.
Those where all super popular back in the day. I think I was more into Viggo as Green Arrow and Sean Bean as Aquaman though.

So Aquaman dies in the first JL film and GA takes his place?

I've seem him proposed for Bruce Wayne more than Superman.

Yeah I recall seeing his name pop up far more often for Bruce Wayne/Batman than Superman.

I can see more Batman in him than Superman but Lex might not be a bad shout.

That’s right! I think I’m going to have to go dig up that old thread.

Now you’ve got me curious about what your early 2000s fancast would look like with the benefit of hindsight. Man I miss those days where fan casting felt so exciting.

-Morena Baccarin, Monica Dean, Monica Bellucci, or Taylor Cole were some of the big Wonder Woman fancasts.

-Jim Caviezel was thrown around a lot for Superman, I think in hindsight that probably should have happened. Politics aside, he would have been amazing in the role. He’s a way better actor than Routh and Cavill, but I think his outspoken views might’ve kept him from getting the role. I can’t see him getting along with Brett Ratner or Bryan Singer at all.

-Nathan Fillion really should have played Hal Jordan and Ryan Reynolds should have played Wally West, like he was supposed to in that Goyer movie. I remember seeing Krasinski mentioned a lot for Flash back then too.

-I remember really liking Dennis Leary and Kiefer Sutherland for Green Arrow back then. When Supermax rolled around, I was fully on board with Matt Damon as Oliver.

-Dennis Haysbert was the popular choice for Darkseid back then, and I still think he would be great.

-Patrick Warburton would have been the perfect Shazam.

-Lance Reddick’s death is tragic for many reasons, we lost a great actor and it’s a shame he never got to play Martian Manhunter. During that time, Peter Mensah was always another popular name.

Kind of got off on a tangent there, but those were the days. It was more fun to think about what could have been than what we actually got. I’ve come to terms with Snyder’s take and I am now able to enjoy it. But my expectations and the reality were startlingly different and hard to swallow at first.

I'm sure someone suggested Jeremy Strong for Lex Luthor?

Ooh, I like that.

He is such a good actor, he definitely could pull it off. I like him for Dent too. Brian Cox for Alfred!

He or Matthew McConaughey would be my first choices.

Mix cooper’s charisma with a bit of his unhinged performance as superman producer jon peters from licorice pizza and it’d be a great fit

He's also an A-lister. I bet he could be a vicious yet charming and charismatic Lex. He could be so matter of fact too, like someone who says something scary and seemingly outrageous but be so serious and absolutely mean it.

I really like the Matthew McConaughey shout, A-lister & he's got the versatility to play the sort of Lex Luthor that I'd personally like to see ie likable in the public eye & ruthless out of it.

I can't see Cooper as Batman. Plus he's 48, by time they get around to casting that he'll be 50 at least. Not that we know how old they'll go but, I think it'd be a long shot.
I do think they’ll have to go somewhat older than Rob just to differentiate the two takes, but Cooper is over a decade Rob’s senior, so yeah… that might be just slightly too old.

I personally think Cooper is the perfect age for this but I do figure he's probably out of the age range they're gunning for.

I think they'll go late 30's early 40s. To Pattinson's advantage he looks a bit younger than he actually is and it seems like they're portraying him that way. I just have to imagine they want the next batman to be around for a little while so they cant go too old imo.

Which what will be interesting is who they cast as Superman and how he'll interact with the next Batman.

I don't wanna see any Vs crap in their next meeting, a little skirmish is fine tho.
Maybe batman tests him when they first meet to see if superman is the real deal or not.

I think they all learned their lesson from that. It'd played out, just like evil superman. Next time they're together on the big screen it'll be as teammates imo.

I can see Bradley Cooper commit to the bit and shave his head for real if he was Lex.

I know this is sacrilege, but I don’t care if the Lex actor is bald. If they have a great actor in mind who doesn’t want to shave their head, fine by me
