Anyone else really excited for this film? There hasn't been a good classic style film since Skycaptain. And I LOVE old school detective-type films. Really excited to see this. Will it be a niche movie? For sure...the younger generation probably won't appreciate it, but for those into noir and classic style film making this will be a hit for them.

It's an interesting experiment and it's got good people in it, so it definataely looks promising.

Unfortunately, Sky Captain was a piece of crap once the novelty of the film style wore off (which it did quickly for me) and in the end, the film turned out to be a poorly acted, poorly written, boring B-movie. Nowbefore someone uses the argument that it was supposed to be that way, that doesn't mean it couldn't have been a well made B-movie, like Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I think Soderbergh sometimes becomes too obsessed with style and/or mood, and that causes the film to suffer a'la Solaris and Ocean's 12. I like a lot of his other stuff though and hope he can redeem himself as of recent. I just hope this movie has substance and not just an overt political message set against clever old Hollywood style production.

I think in Skycaptain's case it may come down to your viewpoint. For me, I didn't really see it as a novelty. I saw it as a great film based on classic film making and old serials and since I went into it expecting just that I wasn't dissapointed in the slightest. Infact, it's still one of my favorites.
