"The Great Comic Book Scare" on NPR's Talk of the Nation, Thurs. 4/24/08

I was listening to the radio today and heard an ad for this, and I figured people here might want to know: Talk of the Nation, a National Public Radio interview show, will be airing a show on the "10 Cent Plague," a huge public outcry against comic books way back in the 1940s brought on by fears that they would corrupt the minds of children. Should be interesting.

Talk of the Nation airs at 3:00 p.m. where I am, but different affiliate stations air the program at different times; so, if you're interested, check your local NPR affiliate's schedule. You can also listen to it online at the NPR Talk of the Nation website (www.npr.org/talkofthenation), but the show isn't uploaded to the website until 6:00 p.m. EST.

Actually it was in the 1950's and was brought on by a certain psychologist !

I thought it was nice that some aspect of comics was getting coverage from as reputable a source as NPR.

There's actually a fair amount of comic book stuff on NPR. Talk of the Nation had some really good interviews with Neil Gaiman and Brad Meltzer.

I've always found the history of the medium kind of interesting, this was a pretty big part of it.

IMO anyway.

I remember the interview with Gaiman. It was more about the Stardust movie than any comic work, but it was still good.

Gaiman's been on Talk of The Nation a couple of times. There was one about a year and a half ago that mostly talked about comic stuff.
