The Great Migration of 2013

For those of you that remember the big server migrations from back in the day (that seemed to be almost annual from 2005-2009), we know this is gonna be a dark time for all of us.

Do we migrate to the dreaded CS boards like old times? Should we schedule a massive Skype hangout? Should we wander the boards aimlessly, telling people that "the end is nigh"?

I'm so confused...



Seriously though, we should do a community hang out somewhere during that time.

Back between 2005 and 2008, we were getting insane increases in traffic due to the movies that were coming out in that time period, and traffic skyrocketed. The servers were getting filled and the site would be operated super slow, and then they'd shut down for a night so that they could migrate all the files to a new set of servers. During those periods, we'd usually go over to ComingSoon.Net, create accounts and post in a thread in their community section called "SuperHero Hype Invasion/System Down etc" and just talk **** about how CS was like the cheap ripoff of the Hype, and joke about how the system maintenance was a ploy to get more people on CS.

So, is there a server migration coming? When? Why have I heard nothing of this?

I don't envy the people managing this forum because vBulletin is a rabid ***** to work with. The one installation I was dragooned into modding on should have been scrapped and replaced with something simpler.

If there's some sort of extended outage I plan to spend more time on Tumblr or on another film-oriented forum. I might also hang 'round the sewer that is CBM, looking to get banned. I haven't trolled in years, should be fun. t:

Oh man, I remember when the forums shut down for a week back in Summer 2006. We straight up took over the CS boards. I remember those posters were b****ing up a storm about us. Our mega thread was straight chaos until we eventually decided to just post all around the other threads. I remember a few posters got pissed because they didn't like that many of the threads got alot of responses during the day. One dude said (I'm paraphrasing) "I like how I can post in the morning and see one or two responses by night time."

But wait a minute, are the boards shutting down again this year?

The way Asteroid Man described it, I thought that the site would be down for days. Then I read the announcement. I'm still not convinced there won't be some glitch that takes it down for a while -- that happened on the other forum I mentioned every time they did maintenance -- but it's no biggie.

Jesus when they were talking about server migration I thought this was going to be a few days/week long ordeal. 5 hours lol, jesus people get off your keyboards and go enjoy the world for a few hours.
