The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Hans Zimmer Score thread - Part 2

Does anyone know the song that plays when spidey is chasing the truck at the start?

I think it is 'I am Spider-Man'. A little disappointed the song isn't longer. It lasts about a minute.

I will say, one of the the things I really like about this score is that it has its own distinctive sound, and doesn't sound interchangeable with other Zimmer scores, as some of his past work has been accused of. I've mentioned my mixed feelings on the main theme, but the soundscape as a whole on this feels pretty unique, imo.

I didnt care for the main them and i am weigting to listen to the score affter i see the movie. I have listen to like 9 of the songs so like a 3erd but form what i have heard it sounds great but it is zimmer so of course it dose and the soundtrack in the first movie was terable so not hard to beat.

I loved the score for this and it may not be related to the score but I liked the use of "Gone, Gone, Gone" in the film, it's a good song like "Til Kingdom Come" from the first film.

Agreed.
I think it's one of the reason I wasn't too into the Elfman Spider-Man score as I heard too much 'Batman' in it.

I think spider man 1 and 2 had by far the best theme in a spider man movie and better then super man theme. Dose any one know where this came form? Was it a demo or something? I like it a lot more then the theme we ended up with in this movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1zZ-pTluG4

I loved elfmans theme and didnt relize that he had done batman for the longest time.

Agreed. Very different to his Superman score, and undercuts a criticism that Hans can only do 'dark' stuff.

'I'm Spider-Man', 'Cold War' and 'No Place Like Home'.

Love love love the funky guitar in 'Still Crazy' from 34 seconds to 44 seconds and the end theme rendition from 2.03 to the end. Really captures what Zimmer was going for.

Thanks!!

Love the guitar in cold war at 0:30 !

You're that Spider guy then It's on Again by Alicia Keys.

Re-listening to "Gone, Gone Gone" just now (I haven't heard it in a while), it's almost freaky how perfect/appropriate/foreboding the lyrics are for what happens in this film :wow: (I still haven't seen it btw but knowing what happens it seems so perfect). Prob why they picked it

Is it just me, or is the "parents theme" like not on the OST, at all?

While being a music teacher in no way makes me the final arbiter on musical tastes (nor should it, preference is preference) I do want to say that while I hear a lot of people hating on "Max's theme" and saying it sounds cartoony, I think it's great.

Zimmer makes use of a solo clarinet which produces a very lonely sound (perfect for Max) and the fact that it's in a minor key makes it sound sad and ominous. The pulsing woodwinds underneath give it this "anger building up, I'm about to crack" vibe to the whole thing, and I think from a musical standpoint it makes TONS of sense. Sure it doesn't sound like a conventional movie score, but I like that.

Also, fun fact: The heavy guitar part in "Cold War" comes from a piece of music called "Baba Yaga" which is from a larger work called "Pictures at an Exhibition" (some of you music nerds may know what I'm talking about). It was written by Modest Mussorgsky, who was one of the most famous and prolific RUSSIAN composers of the 19th Century. As soon as I heard that part I was like "MUSSORGSKY!". I flipped out. Very clever composing and arranging by Mr. Zimmer, and this is from a guy who is NOT his biggest fan.

Just my two cents. :yay:

I suppose some could consider it plagiarism, but I think I'll just enjoy it, like you. :)

Haha nah, film composers do it all the time. When you listen to a lot of classical music, you learn to accept its influence in film scores. John Williams and James Horner are NOTORIOUS for doing it too. Never heard Zimmer do it to this degree. lol.
