Man Tries to Sell Oven Door as HDTV

original.jpeg

A con artist was cooking up something pretty crazy last week.

Readers know that no one is going to sell you a 37” Sony HDTV for $100, but Anthony Miles, 52, was looking for some very foolish or very trusting people when he tried to pull a variation on the old “rocks in a box” scam.

With a bit of wrapping, a manual, some wires and a whole lot of stickers, police say Miles disguised an oven door as a Sony HDTV and attempted to sell it in the parking lot OF a Wal-Mart in San Lorenzo, Florida. The Oakland Tribune reports that the witness who called in the attempted sale said that the man claimed he had gotten the TV for $60 at a flea market and was trying to resell it for $100.

As unbelievable as this all seems, the door actually looks fairly convincing when covered top to bottom with Best Buy and Sony stickers. A closer look would almost certainly reveal the TV to be a fraud, but it might have been enough to fool an unwitting customer.

Not official but it is obvious. Little Fockers has been given a July 30th 2010 release date. Meet The Parents and Meet The Fockers, both previously released on HD-DVD, should be released on Blu-ray in 2010.

Just be quiet and post your Blu-ray release schedule :oldrazz:

haha! Guess what I was working on right when you posted that? :p

I'm guessing there'll be a few people here who'll be interested in what Disney's bringing out November 17th...though not me. Meh.

The Kevin Smith films or Scrubs? Because I am grabbing those right up when they come out.

The Kevin Smith films. I don't care for them at all, but I know that'll excite a few people on this board.

Chasing Amy and Clerks = Good. Kevin Smith is far from an amazing filmmaker but he makes entertaining flicks nonetheless. I would have to say Fight Club blows them both away not only in quality but also anticipation. I can see Fight Club being one of the best selling catalog Blu-ray's of the year.

That's because you aren't human. As a matter in fact, you've inspired to get Clerks 2 next on blu-ray because I am filled with such false outrage :cmad:

I hated Fight Club.

I like Fight Club, and I'm sure I'll pick it up on BD when the price is right, but I can see how people would not like it at all

I'm going to agree with this. Kevin Smith films are not that great. I think the only one I sort of enjoyed was Mallrats.

I have a few questions regarding BD-Live:
1. What kind of Headset/Mic is required?
2. How do you record your own commentary?
3. How do you run your own online screening?

Hmmm I might have to pick one of these up as my new Blu-ray player and keep my 60GB as my backup. :)

Slim PS3 Officially Announced
To quote Chazz Palminteri on 'The Usual Suspects': "a rumor's not a rumor that doesn't die." Today at the gamescom conference in Cologne, Germany, SCEI chief Kaz Hirai officially announced the Slim PS3, available in stores from the first week of September. Price will be $299 in the US, €299 in Europe, and ¥29,980 in Japan.

Features and connections are the same as on existing models. It'll include a 120GB hard drive (it is unclear whether it will be upgradeable or not).

According to SCE, the internal design architecture of the new PS3 system, from the main semiconductors and power supply unit to the cooling mechanism, has been completely redesigned.

Size, weight and energy requirements are cut by a third. Dimensions are 290×65×290 mm (11.4×2.6×11.4 in). Weight is 3.2 kg (7.0 lbs). Power consumption is approximately 250W. Noise is also reduced, although no specific figure was given.

As regards the outside look, the form factor of the new PS3 system features a new design with textured surface finish (in charcoal black vs the piano black finish on previous models), giving "an all new impression and a casual look," which the company hopes "will appeal to a wider audience."

With the introduction of the new PS3 system, SCE will also reduce the price of the current PS3 with 80GB HDD to an RRP of US$299/€299. Also in North America, the price of PS3 with 160GB HDD will be reduced to an RRP of US$399 from August 18.

As I said in the PS3 Slim thread, this should be what Sony needs to jump back into the game against Microsoft. I'm not saying they'll win, but the gap should be narrowed at the least. I don't think it's as nice looking as the big brother, but I do like the size of it

I wonder why they are pricing the 80GB the same though?

Yea you'd think to clear stock they would drop it a little more since the Slim is coming in just a few weeks. Guess they don't want to lose too much on each sale

Well from what I understand the PS3 slim is identical to the 80GB except more space and different looks. I heard some rumors that the slim won't be able to decode DTS-HDMA but that could just people someone talking out of their ash.
