The reasons I made this thread is for the following reasons:
-To talk about the status of today's horror movies being made wether you're interested in the ones you are talking about or not
-To talk about upcoming horror movies you are looking forward to
-To talk about upcoming horror movies you are worried about
-To talk about horror movies you like which you have already seen
-To talk about horror movies you wanted to see but thought were dire
-To talk about movies that are part horror
:yay:

I want to make it very clear that as a big horror genre movie fan, that I am for horror movie remakes as long as I find the ones I want to see enjoyable enough. If I don't like one of them, then I will stick with the original and ignore them.

Great idea!

I'll kick things off with Silent Hill. This is the most recent horror movie I've seen. Now I've never played the games, but this was an entertaining flick with nice scares and a good story. Even if it deviated horribly from the games, it was at least still horror. Resident Evil took a look at the games and bolted in the opposite direction, storyline-wise. Only thing was, it wasn't scary at all. Too science-fictiony. George Romero was attached to direct at one point, and to this day I question what went through the Capcom bigwigs' heads when they hired Paul Anderson to direct.

Next to Silent Hill, I'm a big fan of John Carpenter's "The Thing." The creature effects sell the scares. They all looked like the real deal, rather than SFX. I do think horror films should go back to the use of practical effects. How about you?

Well yes,but it depends on the situation,if something or somethings look bad, then usual effects should be used to execute them properly. Like I don't mind CGI as an alternative as long as it doesn't look bad to me.

^I like Silent Hill too,I never played the videogame,I one day bought it on dvd because I remembered seeing the trailer for it before it came out in theaters. So I loved the tone, visuals, and scary villians. The cinematorgraphy was good, the story was confusing but interesting and cool,it was gross and I liked it for that too. It was fun too IMO. Anyways,I heard a part 2 is coming out and am looking forward to it at this point.

Ah,The Thing,I like that movie. Speaking of Carpenter's horror movies,I like his horror movies such as Halloween,They Live,In The Mouth Of Madness, and Prince Of Darkness movie. I mentioned They Live because IMO,it falls in the horror category to an extent.
I enjoyed the Resident Evil movies, they didn't scary me really,IMO Resident Evil:Apocalypse is the best one. I'm hard to scare when it comes to horror movies and when it comes to a movie that has the horror element in it.

Yes, as am I. They actually set it up so that it could roughly follow the second game. There your character receives a letter from his dead wife calling him to Silent Hill. I'm sure there's more; this is according to the back of the game's box. But yeah, I got the impression that the mother and daughter were stuck in some pocket world or something, you know? Not alive, not dead. Just there, and that at some points this "pocket world" would tilt into Hell. So all the mom has to do is find some way to get a letter out to him, and BAM! Rough following of the second game's plot. If my theory is true, there's the question of just how she'd get a letter to the land of the living though.

I don't call it horror in its current incarnation, but a remake of IT would be a good horror flick. The ending would be a doozy to get on film though.

^Dude,I so agree with you in regards to IT,that movie was good until the big reveal being that Pennywise was a big spider. To this day,I still say he should have remained an evil clown that was gross underneath that killed. If IT was remade and Pennywise was good and not a spider again then maybe I would see it. If it was made and seemed good then I would hope it wouldn't be PG-13. I REALLY REALLY REALLY HATE PG-13 horror movies, gah, they are sooooo cheesie IMO. Well, most of them are IMO.

The spider motiff is very crucial to the Stephen King mythos, but I can understand the disappointment in regards to the effects. In the story, Pennywise was something of a Lovecraftian being in that the spider form was the only thing about his true form that the human mind could comprehend. Have you read the book? I actually found the bully and one of his friends to be the scariest characters, simply because you know they're human.

Nope,I never read the book. I am going to rephrase my words but with slight modifications,Pennywise should have been a supernatural scary looking clown who killed that looked gross underneath IMO. Have you heard of a french horror movie called Inside?
It is suppose to be good like High Tension(which I liked by the way),but even better than that. I ordered it on dvd and can't wait to watch it. It's about a woman who is mysterious who want's a woman's baby who is pregnant. Speaking of slasher horror movies,
The Strangers looks very good,I am a sucker for creepy masks, but it's not the only reason I want to see it.

I thought Silent Hill was a ok movie, it's the best video game adaptation out there in my opinion.

I love An American Werewolf In Paris, American Psycho and The Evil Dead/2...Army was more of a comedy.

Anyone hear anything about a new Nightmare on elm? I heard Crispin Glover could play the new freddy. God that would suck.

^No,Crispin Glover isn't going to play Freddy. Someone else is.
American Psycho is pretty good IMO. One of my fav parts from that is when he(Patrick) is pointing into the camera while a Phil Collin's song is playing.

:woot::woot::woot:

So,what are you're guys feelings on the Hellraiser remake? New writers were found but the director's left the movie,so it is still without a director and is still coming out on January 9 2009!

Oh,and the guys who are writing it are the ones who wrote Saw 4 and a movie called Feast. Dimension apparently reject the director's script which Barker supported 100%.

Now that I think of it,news about upcoming horror movies from other threads in the misc films forum should be inserted in this thread.
:o

The best horror movie is 'Psycho' from 1960, IMO.

That is the only horror movie I've ever liked..either that or 'The Shining'.

I did like black-comedy horrors like Evil Dead Series and American Psycho.

I absolutely love Shaun Of The Dead :D.

Why are they remaking the 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' series? That is a franchise that shouldn't be touched, in my opinion. It's one of the best out there.

They should remake the 'Friday the 13th' movies though. I'd like that franchise to get a makeover.

The last horror film that I seen, that I thought was good, was the first Jeepers Creepers. That movie scared the hell out of me. Hopefully they really put some work into the third one. They could make that a really great franchise.

I'm glad that they are remaking the Hellraiser series, I want to see what they do with that, could be good. Hopefully Barker okay's everything.

That new movie that's coming out, called 'The Strangers' looks really good, in my opinion. Can't wait to see that one.

I'm a pretty big SAW fan. Can't wait for the fifth.

I want to see a third TCM. They could continue the story after Leatherface got his arm hacked off.

I liked the first 'The Hills Have Eyes.' I thought it was great. The second one was pretty 'meh.'

And I like the '28 Days Later' movies. Can't wait for the third.

About Friday the 13th,filming for it(the remake) started last month. There was a pic from the set released yesterday, but it has no cool factor.

Hmm....I can't wait to see Jason. Hopefully they release a picture of him soon. He is the star of th show. Any news on who's starring in the film?

The Descent is worth checking out. High Tension is as well (despite it's impossible ending).

I really liked High Tension,I didn't mind the twist ending at all.
I have the director's cut.

Yeah,Jason's the star of the movie, one of the mutants from the Hills Have Eyes is playing Jason.

I like High Tension, but the ending killed it for me. However, if they had taken the ending and put in as the beginning of the movie, it might've made more sense.

I would say something, but I would have to watch the movie pretty soon to be able to say it.

Cool. It might be the mutant that played Jupiter then, cause he was pretty big.
