The Horror Thread - Part 4

The only good kill in Part 4 was Kincaid's. Every one after that got sillier and sillier.
I kinda like the one girl turning into a cockroach and getting crush, I need to watch Never Sleep Again again best horror documentary I've ever seen.

I really don't see how Freddy is that much goofier acting in 4 or 5 than he was in part 3.

The VFX were good, but the whole concept was a little too silly for my taste.

I really don't see how Freddy is that much goofier acting in 4 or 5 than he was in part 3.

Let's compare then.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors

1) Philip is turned into a marionette and walked up into the tower where Freddy was conceived, then the strings were cut and he fell to his death. No one liners or bad puns.

2) Freddy pops out of the top of the TV, grabs Jennifer, then says "This is it Jennifer! Your big break in TV! Welcome to prime time, b**ch!" Then he shoves her head into the TV.

3) Freddy disguises himself as the hot blonde nurse Joey has a crush on to lure him away from the others. Then as they're making out, Freddy's tongue flies from his mouth and ties Joey spread eagle to the bed frame, to which he says "What's the matter Joey? Feeling tongue tied?"

4) Freddy chases the cripple with a killer wheel chair. Then when the kid tries to use D&D magic to banish Freddy, he says "Sorry kid, I don't believe in fairy tales", then stabs him with his glove.

5) After a brief knife fight with the Taryn girl, Freddy turns his fingers into syringes and says "Let's get high". Then after he kills her by a drug overdose he says "What a rush".

6) Freddy's animated skeleton throws Nancy's dad through the air and impales him on the rear fin of an old automobile (I think it was a Cadillac). His skeleton then bashes Neil with a shovel and starts burying him alive.

7) Freddy impersonates Nancy's father in order to get close enough to kill her. When he reveals himself to actually be Freddy and stabs her in the gut, he says "Die b**ch!"

A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

1) Freddy stabs Kincaid in the gut after waking up in the junkyard. Kincaid says "I'll see you in Hell," to which Freddy responds "Tell them Freddy sent you."

2) Joey's dreaming about a naked girl swimming around in his water bed. Then Freddy pops up and says "Hey Joey! How's this for a wet dream!" then kills him, causing his body to somehow be trapped INSIDE the bladder of his water bed.

3) Kristen dreams herself to a beach where she believes she'll be safe from Freddy. Freddy uses his blades as the fin of a shark and goes right up to the sand castle which he causes to explode, revealing himself. Then as Kristen is being sucked down by quicksand, Freddy puts on a pair of shades before pushing her down. Then he kills her in the boiler room by throwing her into the burning furnace.

4) Freddy locks the class brain into her desk during an exam. Then he walks up to her and says "Wanna suck face?" before sucking the life out of her.

5) Freddy kills Alice's brother Rick by invisibly attacking him in a dojo, mocking him with taunts about how "A ninja warrior doesn't need to see his enemies to defeat them" and that "A ninja warrior must have balance."

6) As Alice is dreaming that she's in a diner, Freddy sits down next to her. "If the food here doesn't kill you, the service sure will" He's served a pizza with the souls of all his victims baked in as meatballs. "I just love soul food!" Stabs Alice's brother in the face. "Rick you little meatball!"

7) Freddy kills Debra by turning her into a cockroach, trapping her in a roach motel, and right before he crushes her he says "You can check in but you can't check out!"

8) When Alice's boyfriend is being sedated so he can be operated on, he dreams Freddy is in the operating room. He shouts "Krueger!" to which Freddy replies "Well it ain't Doctor Seus!"

There might be some more examples that I'm missing, but for the most part I think it's fairly obvious that Freddy was sliding far more to the side of silly in Part 4 than he was in Part 3.

Not Horror...but again...a movie I have mostly seen discussed on Horror sites...

Just saw Anna (2014) a movie about a memory detective guy who is working with a troubled girl (played by that Farmiga chick who is in American Horror Story) who is on a hunger strike, and he tries to tap into her memories to figure out why she is this way and hopefully help her.

There have been a few movies lately that are kind of low budget takes on Inception. Even though it's memories instead of dreams, you can't avoid comparing them. Last year there was a movie called Extraction, about a guy who could enter people's memories to help clear them of crimes. I prefer that film to Anna because, while Extraction kind of screws up the end, Anna is pretty easy to figure out from the opening scene. I've seen reviews for Anna that call it a really deep movie that you'll never be able to figure out...but it's pretty darn straightforward and easy to solve as far as I'm concerned. It isn't a bad movie...just a bit on the boring side.

Also recently saw ETXR (2014) a straight to Netflix sci-fi film about a EDM DJ who is given a Teslascope by a friend. The friend built it and is picking up some kind of frequency, and he wants the DJ to help figure out what it means...but the DJ just wants to mix it into his music. There's a bit too little going on, yet a bit too much. There are several different groups who want the Teslascope, some rich guy who wants to but it...some talk of the government wanting it (but no real presence by any government types, and some poorly defined terrorist group who really just want the power source. Despite all of those different groups, they get a combined total of about 5 minutes of screen time. Most of the film is just the guy dealing with the Teslascope. I will say that I think it's awesome that a movie is catering to the EDM crowd. If you don't have much of a budget, I think it's a decent idea to cater your film to a severely under-served market. I actually wish that there was more music and more of a focus on the scene, since I am not a fan of the genre and could probably stand to learn a little about it. Not a whole lot gets explained about what the Teslascope is doing, so I was underwhelmed. I think it's supposed to be some connection of how people connect to EDM on a "spiritual" level or something.

Just watched Absentia.
HOLY. ****.
Watch it ASAP. It's the same director as Oculus.
One of the best independent movies I've ever seen.

Finally saw The Conjuring the other night, horror films never usually scare me but this one did but I think it was because if the way they used the tension. Great horror movie.

What is that house-stalker-killer movie came out in the past year? I guess it had Halloween/Strangers vibe, with a twist or something?

Do you remember who was in it?

I haven't seen it. Only saw gifs on here and Tumblr of a dark brown haired girl in like a white tee or tank running around all scared and stuff... But she wielded an axe or something on the last gif of the set I think?

I heard it was good but the twist either ruined or made it amazing, all up to the viewer.

it was watchable; kind of a slow burn. but i didn't like how it ended. it needed a bigger budget, imo.

Holy hell...

This, You're Next, is amazing. That chick was so badass, had a killer 'plot' for this type of film, the action/kills were inventive, and the music was badass.

My top films just got an addition...

1. Halloween
2. Scream
3. The Strangers
4. Scream 2
5. You're Next
6. Terror Train
7. Evil Dead (2013)
8. H20
9. Evil Dead
10. Halloween II
11. Friday The 13th
12. Rosemary's Baby
13. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
14. Braindead
15. Black Christmas

Shinning is beyond amazing, but I kind of don't count it as a 'horror' film.
