you should also watch it for the story and the fact that its a big budget movie with a female main character.

Yea but it's not showing the interesting parks like, rue or katniss and the tracker jackers. I get it, she goes to the games now show us footage of the games

Read what I wrote: they don't want to show those scenes because they're targeting families and younger children to watch the film, and bring in ticket sales.

i don't want to see the Rue seen at all in any trailers :cries:

I'm fine with waiting for that stuff until I get to see the movie.

I'm pretty sure kids are gonna be a little freaked out when the scene with rue is shown or the enhanced dogs

They will but the point is they will be in the theater and already paid.

Also kids these days are made of sterner stuff, what would have bothered one generation doesn't phase another these days. You can get worse than a PG-13 movie on regular standard TV these days not to mention if they stay up late and watch what is on HBO late.

its not in studios interest to trick you in the theater once. you need to come back.

Hunger Games is a big budget movie. if they trick you into theate and you dont like it the movie will underperform.

^Exactly. Audiences mostly don't take kindly to being completely tricked. I don't think that is the case with Hunger Games though.

they are doing a good job promoting the first act. the set up is intense and emotional.

I didn't mean it as they are trying to trick the audience or at least not in the way you're thinking of. Many films do this. Potter and LOTR didn't show the scary bits in the trailer.

The movie studio should be more concerned that they're tricking themselves than the audience. By showing a G rated trailer they're targeting the wrong demographic. These Hunger Games trailers are some of the worst I've ever seen.

Exactly, Its called the hunger games for a reason and yet they havent shown the struggle nor the things that occur during the games except the wall of fire. I could care less about the preparations for the games, the best part of the book WAS the games.

I like these trailers. I feel like almost every sequence within the actual games is a major plot point, so showing just about anything would spoil something.

What is this G-rated trailer you speak of?

Every trailer/tv spot I've seen shows Katniss taking her sister's place at the reaping with all the screaming and crying, and it explains that it's a game where everyone but one dies at the end. That's not G-rated.

I haven't seen this promoted as a children's film anywhere.

finally saw the trailer on the big screen when i saw Chronicle last night.

the trailer was the best part of Chronicle

I think this is why it is important to actually show portions of the games in the trailer. Most parents and kids probably never read the books, and didn't know that the games are actually having teenagers kill each other so their district can get food to eat. If I had never heard of The Hunger Games, judging from the trailers alone I'd assume that the kids were just having a competition a la Olympics or something. I'm sure some parents will be shocked at a PG-13 movie portraying such brutality and advertised it as a standard action flick.

Any trailer can be classified as G along as there is no hint of violence, sex, etc. A five year old can easily watch the Hunger Games trailer.

Complaining parents are often reported in the news, which can generate free publicity for the film. This however, will not offset their inability to properly target key demographics. If this film makes money it will be in spite of the marketing campaign and not because of it.

Australia has started selling advanced tickets (the US and Canada start on Wednesday) and they've listed the film's official runtime : 2h20min.

This excites me. One of the things that worried me was how long the film would be to capture the drama and impact of the book. I would have been fine with a solid 2 hour movie. But 20 minutes longer? Bonus! :)

so let me see if i get this right. they are 1 month away from the premiere and they wont show the action in a tv spot? WOOOOW.
