The Hype TV Club

Vi and Caitlyn are a really great couple - I was totally seeing that. The main reason this show suddenly started getting better was focus on the adult versions of Vi and Jinx and more involvement of Caitlyn. It was honestly boring for the first few episodes but I was persevering with it being a Hype Club recommendation - definitely glad I did though and unlike Squid Game I would be very much looking forward to a second season.

30 mins would have been better, also agreed. Just as importantly make sure the first few episodes of next season entertain on their own merits rather than just set things up for later.

 

Based off the first two episodes, What We Do in the Shadows scared me. I thought it would be one of those lame adaptations that just does a longer, less funny version of what worked in the movie. Thankfully that isn't the case. It's one of the funniest shows I've ever watched. Matt Berry is the funniest human being to ever walk the Earth.

 

Colin the energy vampire is my favorite.

 

Yeah I'm pretty sure I know a couple of energy vampires myself.

Loving this show so far. It's at least as good as the movie if not better. And I f***ing LOVE the movie.

Oh, I didn't even know this was based on a film.

 

I never saw the movie. I like the show enough as it is.

 

Yeah the movie is one of my favorite comedies ever and is what first introduced me to the mad genius of Taika Waititi. It was the same concept and style, just following different vampires. Definitely recommend it if you get a chance. I think the movie characters might cross over with the show at some point.

 

Oh it's Taika? Ha, I have to check it out.

 

Suddenly got Toy Story 2 vibes from episode 5 and loving it.

Yeah if you haven't noticed, he and his co-writer on the original film, Jemaine Clement, are behind this series, too. Jemaine wrote the pilot, and Taika directed it (along with a couple other eps in this first season).

This is epic.

 

The Trial is the episode that made me go, "is this better then the movie?" On the Run sealed it.

The episode somehow just keeps getting funnier and funnier. The vampire baby stuff, Batistia, Schall floating everywhere, the council, etc. The deep cut of Pee Wee from Buffy absolutely broke me the first time I watched it.

I have nothing to really add this month other than the show is great and I definitely recommend continuing on as my two favourite episodes don't show up this season, so here's some other gifs.

I would do a Buffy binge for sure (I kinda already do one every year anyway and this is a new year, lol).

 

So I'm like 1 minute into "On the Run" and there's laughter coming from some guy floating in the sky and as soon as I hear that laughter I know why this is Darth's fave.

 

Ok this episode really is amazing though.

I thought Mark Hamill would be the best part. Then Jackie Daytona. Now it's the Nadja doll's face when Colin tries to kiss her.

I am dying.

 

The thing is, he isn't even the reason. I had the same reaction as you did, as the episode unfolded and somehow got better.

I can't believe I'm on the 2nd half of the 3rd season of this show and Lazlo shouting "Bat" when he transforms still cracks me up every time.
