I think the debate your seeing on these threads is evidence of why no trailers or still shots were released until now. I think the sequence you saw in this initial teaser was completed work. The idea that NO sequence is completed with less than 90 days until release is a hard pill to swallow. There's not enough time to go back and touch every scene at this stage. The CGI shops have had this project for a while, so the idea that nothing is ready to reveal at the eleventh hour when everyone was claiming the delay in advertising was to get it "right" doesn't add up. This project doesn't have a budget that is going to give you state of the art effects as compared to recent CG blockbusters. And with it's target audience clearly on display by the cable networks that ran this teaser tells me the studio is not anticipating business outside of the main fan base. I think this is a movie you either buy into before the house lights go down or your not seeing it at all. The studio's lack of advertising continues to suggest the project will have a brief window to find ticket buyers in a crowded summer and they don't want to lose those dollars to advertising that won't make a difference.

You are definately right about it being a crowded summer, but if this really is only budgeted at 130 mil. it will most certainly make money. But ya never know it could be a suprise hit, happens sometimes.

Yup he has a point, although davy jones is hands down the most realistic cg character I have ever seen on screen, even better than kong.

I agree, he wasn't 100% CGI though was he? Like Hulk or Kong.

Although i would agree with you , i can say that there have been cases of studios really working till the last moment to get their VFX done. With Return Of The King , WETA delivered the final shots a few days before the world premiere. Of course it's always hectic when the final shots need to be delivered but i wouldn't be surprised if they finally delivered their shots at the beginning of april.

I am not sure but I think he was 100% CGI.

Maybe these pics will help?

Oh that's cool, I just remember on the extras DVD them using props and make up on the actor aswell.

Gore Verbinski should've directed the Hulk based on those effects shots alone with ILM

regardless of the effects... judging from the teaser, they could have easily released a teaser trailer of this film back in like december WITHOUT having revealed the Hulk JUST to build awareness...

The entire trailer felt like two parts put together... the second FX part and the first part being all the character work and drama...

They could've easily cut a kick ass trailer based on just the character/dramatic elements initially and end it on that same quick "Bill Bixby" eyes glowing green shot of Ed Norton as he swings his head up then end with the titles... Incredible Hulk

Then the second trailer could've involved more FX

they really ****ed the marketing on this one big time

I won't spoil script details, but there's a sequence where you just see glimpses of the Hulk. If they were so tepid about showing a trailer, a teaser with just the glimpses would've worked just dandy. Now they have nitpickers after them, and I can't say I sympathize. The promotional material for this film is long overdue.

They didn't hire Lou for motion capture as Hulk. Edward Norton is doing the motion capture for Hulk.

Lou has probably been casted for a cameo or maybe as the voice of Hulk.

And this looks nothing like Lou IMO.

what ever happened to the hulk looking like this?:csad:

I agree, he wasn't 100% CGI though was he? Like Hulk or Kong.

100% real. even the eyes were replaced. gore verbinski is a perfectionist when it comes to effects work.

i really hope they clean up the effects on hulk. that shot of his hand coming up from the rubble looks horrible. in this day and age there is no excuse for bad cgi in mainstream movies.

He does still look like that, it's just in the trailer we didn't get a close up of his face, the part when he roars looks alot like the concept, just with him roaring instead of mouth closed.

The hand coming out of the rubble was actually animatronic lol.

A typical kind of post...

"That was such bad CGI, the blur and shading looks so plastic and fake..."

"oh, It was a prop? A Silicone and Foam on set animatronic?"

"Sheesh, um... what do I say to not look like a know it all tool...."

"...Oh!"

"Well dammit, they should have done it CG!! Why use props, that so 80's! They didn't have to use on set prop's on 2003... Oh, they did? On what the... Oh, really? The Poodle? In Cinefex? Damn it..."

it looks like iffy cgi but if it is a practical effect thats even worse!

and do you have a link to where it is stated its practical? thanks.

what are you grinning about? i really hope your above post wasnt directed at me.

why are you getting so bent? did you work on the movie? did you render those effects? even the director himself said they were not final so why are you defending them so heatedly?

i realize they are still working on finalizing those shots so i am completely willing to suspend judgement until i see the final product but those shots (as they stand right now) look less than stellar. sorry if that sentiment offends you somehow but im a bit dissapointed in their quality so far. i really hope they improve. alot.

I'm glad the Hulk doesn't look like that. Deodato Jr.'s Hulk FTW.

Wasn't directed at you, just a general joke about the complaints so far.

its weird, i see a lot of people say that on these boards, but i've never been that impressed with Davey Jones. I don't mean to say that in a bad way, i just mean he never stood out to me like say Gollum

its cool nivek.

believe me i really want this movie to be good. i loved 2003s hulk but i understand why it wasnt universally loved and i really want a hulk movie that has a wider appeal. i think the character deserves it. so im not preemptively bashing the movie.

i just think the direction they took with the effects (so far) is lackluster. abom looks lke an extra from resident evil and the hulk looks far too animated to me. ilike the designs enough but the execution is what is troubling me. hopefully they will tweak the work we've seen and the movie will rock my ass off but the trailer just didnt instill alot of faith. i showed it to my 10 year old and he giggled and said the effects looked cartoonish. if you cant get a child to buy it im afraid they have missed the mark. heres to hoping they will eventually knock it out of the park.

Look at the quote in the above link regarding how they filmed it. They're way off because Doug Jones was the physical actor on set of FF2 and he was not used for mo-cap or reference shots. I have a crapload of Hulk set photo's showing the mocap suits and f/x guys running around with a wire frame over their head with tennis balls for reference. LOL

How did they even figure that comparison?

Lol, wow, kids these days, nit picking CGI.

People must be becoming more critical than ever as each generation passes. (Thats really not an attack on you or your kid either so don't get angry.)

All I mean is man, I think it looks real, adults I've shown it to think it looks real, peers my age think it looks real and heck especially when I was 10 (8 years ago) I would I have dropped dead at how real it looked.

Man, when I was 10, me and my friends were stuck playing pokemon and joining each other out on the playground with painted foam balls made up as pokeballs suspending disbelief and living in imagination. Let alone seeing a CG Hulk of this caliber that would have made me **** myself back then! :oldrazz:

i will admit kids are jaded but thats exactly my point. he (and we) have seen davey jones, kong, gollum, (insert personal cgi holy grail here_____ ). i mean he thinks davey jones is awesome and he loved cloverfield ( hes not that jaded yet) but when something looks too fake he says so. so when i (or a ten year old) see merly passable effects we are going to go "oh".

especially with a character like the hulk. say what you want about ang lee's hulk, but some of the effects were groundbreaking at the time. especially the mo cap stuff. i want that and more. there is no excuse for a main character in this type of movie to have anything less than top notch work. i mean, i like the design enough but the shots look really undone to me. the main characters still look too animated and dont blend into their surroundings the way they should.

its a moot point anyway. the shots are unfinished! the director even said they were still polishing it up. so if you (and your peers) think they look good now, they will hopefully look much better in the film.

on the suit he had red dots.

If I have any complaints about the CGI in the trailer it's because Hulk and Abommy look too "plasticky", if that makes any sense.

The bit where they're running looks great. They feel like they have "weight" to them. That's important to me.

It's the texture of their skin that bothers me. Maybe they're too shiny? I can't put my finger on it. Again, they look plasticky.

Regardless, I've looked past bad CG work before, and I can do it again with IH if I must. Suspension of disbelief, people. It helps.

My sole complaint is that the Abomination is too fluid before the footage where he fights the Hulk. Still, it's a small complaint since what's "animate" and what's "too animate" is often up to the viewpoint of the person watching.
