The Incredible Hulk Hype Meter - How hyped are you?

How excited are you for this movie?

  • It looks awful. I won't go anywhere near a theater playing it.

  • I'm not too hopeful. Not going to go out of my way to see it.

  • It will probably be OK. I'll get around to seeing it once the crowds die down.

  • I'm really looking forward to it. I'll be checking it out opening weekend, probably.

  • My head is about to explode!! I'll be there opening day with ticket in hand!

Oh so they have been waiting on the release of any marketing because the fans are clinging to anything they can get out of their desperation. I guess they feel that making us wait longer will help the situation. :whatever:

I don't buy it.

Me either.

I'll tell you why there is no hype at this time for "The Incredible Hulk". First and foremost I don't blame anyone personally, but I blame everyone that has whined and had virtual tantrums that have gotten back to Marvel in the sense of the leaked script from May 2007. I myself am guilty of just sharing it with people, but have never posted the script itself. Marvel is being very guarded about the movie because of the script and what happened with Universal's "American Gangster" being released 8 days on bootleg dvd damaging its boxoffice numbers. I personally was contacted by Marvel regarding the script. Here's part of the email:

My name is Rob Grosser and I am an independent security consultant working for Marvel. I have worked as a security consultant for Toy Biz/ Marvel since 1990. I am currently conducting an investigation for Marvel regarding the dissemination of confidential, non-public information concerning the release of the Hulk Script. The executives at Marvel are extremely upset regarding the release of this information and they have instructed me to find the source of this confidential information. I want to accomplish this in a quiet manner. I do not want to see a lot of people get fired or incarcerated (I am sure you do not want to see this as well) and that will surely happen if I do not find the source. However I am very confident that through your efforts and mine, we will be able to work through this together. As you are aware, I have one of the scripts that you sent me (You go by the name of “Emerald Beast’ on SuperHero Hype).

This is why they are so slow to release stuff. The blurry poster shot was done illegally as has affected Marvel's marketing. Please stop. We now have to wait until Marvel is ready to release stuff. I spoke to him on the phone and he has told me the movie has wrapped, so please be patient. Nuff said.

So Marvel has spies on the Hype trying to get scripts from people to see who has them. Smart freaking move. I know they're not worried about a few people having it. They're worried about people spreading it and posting it on the web. I would never do that with something given to me in confidence. It's too bad that some selfish JO's post scripts online that could spoil and completely ruin a film for a studio that's spending well over a hundred million to make a film for us. I don't blame people who have the script or even share it with there friends. For those who have it...don't throw it all out on the web. If it's already there...oh well. Jeez.

Hey AD, I will PM you the rest of the email tonight after work. You will get an even better sense of what is going on. BTW, I am not in any trouble and he was indeed happy we spoke. I just got a inside track to the Marvel Universe.

Well, this is just tragic IMO. I sincerely never believed that anything would be "up" at Marvel that would possibly account for intentional silent treatment toward the fans, but this now seems to confirm that something IS up. I mean, a private consultant to spy on us? A shrewd move, yes, but how ridiculously sad. This is why I think we all have a responsibility to reject the scripts when we're presented with them and why I was absolutely livid when a particular thread that divulged specific details was at its height. If you recall, someone was willing to tell us virtually anything we wanted to know and many of you gladly took part in it. I of course got reamed for being upset (had to work it out with a mod over PM), but this serves you well - a movie whose executives are "extremely upset" over the leakage. We "need" something, you say? How about a good 'ole can of Shut It? In effect, this is what Marvel is communicating. You want something; you get nothing. Sure, we can blame it on the person who did the leaking and make him the scapegoat, but I think we all have a responsibility in this and it starts with being patient.

There could be many things that have gone wrong. For one, they could have made some cgi and decided to re-do it because it looked bad. The point is, any number of things could have gone wrong. When something is presented this late, it's logical to assume that they have run into problems and have decided not to speak out about it.

Two posts over a span of several days/pages on this thread... I'm not sure whether you want the credit or not based on your second post, but it seems you called it in the first post. Kudos to you.

I think this is just a pretext to justify this lack of stuff...
I know this is saying the unpopular thing... but is just the impression I've had.

So Marvel have not released anything because of the original person who leaked the script to the internet? Like Latino Review and ISEB?

Is this like a punishment or something?

Ever since batman begins I have avoided leaked scripts and script reviews for the simple fact that is spoils the movie. It was horrible going into batman beings and knowing more or less what was going to happen next, never again i said to myself. And i'm happy to say i've stuck to that statement.

I am eagerly awaiting Hulk and will continue to wait for any bits of news, images, trailers etc, I want my first experience of this new movie to be a fresh one!

I agree. There are rare exceptions for me to that rule. I won't even look at the Hulk script.

I'm going to frank. I personally don't understand the demand for leaked scripts and spoilers. Shouldn't the name alone be a deterrent. "Spoilers!" Logically the only thing a "spoiler" can do is "spoil", so why demand it? If you go to a restaurant and the serve you spoilt food, will you accept it? If they give you half cooked meat will you eat it? Then why accept and try to digest "half - cooked" scripts? I just don't get it. A movie is suppose to be an experience, and surprises help to enhance that experience. Take away the surprises and you spoil that experience.

This is a very unfortunate situation. I just hope nobody loses their job over this and I'm glad EB is in the clear

^ Your analogies are very strange but I agree with the point I think you were trying to make. Movie spoilers & spoiled food. LOL

:woot: Sorry got carried away. The emphasis is spoilt. If food is spoilt you won't enjoy and if a movie is spoilt you won't enjoy it. And spoilers spoil the movie. Guess that can basically sum up what I'm saying.:hehe: (<- I love this emotion. So funny)

I can imagine. This is by far the most I've ever been involved in a movie before its release (note my Feb 07 join date) and I can tell you that even I think I know too much, even having avoided reading the real spoilers and turned down a copy of the draft. The Latino Review and IESB reviews were sufficient IMO and even those were too detailed. So, I don't want to know and I think that's where it has to start with anyone who actually wants to enjoy TIH to its fullest.

Now having said that, I just returned from my first-ever visit to the Batman forums a minute ago and find that things there are really hopping. The activity among posters there is off the charts. Is that good for the movie? It certainly seems to be. But one wonders how much the movie will be able to sustain that level of excitement over another 7 months and whether it is really a good thing that they've released official posters this early. In other words, one wonders how much more original material they can release that will still be met with a fresh reception in fans' minds. On the surface, it seems TDK is running the same course as Spider-Man 3 did - flattering the fans with anything and everything - and to that I can only say good luck.

Well don't spoil everything...unless you're spoiled. :)

i think you guys are forgetting one thing. this is the incredible hulk (spoilers) page. if you dont want spoilers, go the the no spoiler page. i mean, i agree with not reading the script, but im here for as much info as possible. you dont want to spoil the movie, you have the option not to, its pretty simple really.
:bh:

^ No we're not. There's a difference between spoilers which could include the released synopsis, a trailer, an interview, set pics etc...

and

Details of a leaked script.

I can understand basic info and confirmations but some people are posting very specific details which are not supposed to be online. These movies are made for us and I think there should be enough respect not to cut and paste the script online.

That movie is goning to be great. Of the trailer all I can say is WOW F'N WOW! And yes there is a lot more to that movie to keep it fresh.

This is the spoilers forum... etc. etc. The same mantra that gets repeated every time these issues come up. Well, I agree with you actually, but there's a fundamental problem with the fact that the script was leaked in the first place and - in conjunction with the willingness of some who are just oh-so-eager to indulge the meaty details of that script - that's what tends to upset me. We have social responsibilities around here, even if it IS just talking about movies. If you get a copy of the draft, a red flag should go up in your mind - if that red flag doesn't go up, then something's wrong and the rest of us should exercise our own discretion. I, for one, tried to avoid most spoilers, but early on, one dude was just posting things left and right. Anyway, it seems to be all water over the dam. I just don't like being told to go to the non-spoilers forum when the spoilers forum is the only place where I'm likely to get any details at all. It's like telling you to buy something from The Home Depot when Lowe's is the only place that has the item in stock.

You saw it? Lucky bas*ard! Going to see I Am Legend tonight just to see the trailer.

I never have and never will read spoilers or leaked scripts, I am just to big a fan of these superheros and the films to ruin it before I see it, I want to enjoy the movie, be entertained and be surprised by it, I do not want to know everything that is going to happen. I like many on these boards simply like to talk to other fans about what they think or what they would like to see in the films and what they love about the superheros.

So it really does not make any sense to me for Marvel or whoever to try and say that "We are not going to show you anything because someone who worked for us leaked a script and people read it", I am sorry that just doesn't make any sense to me, are they going to risk a $150 million dollar movie because some people read a script? I sure hope not.

IMHO they should realize that a hell of a lot of people didn't read it and they are fans who simply want to see a poster, or some toys, or a teaser trailer and are actually looking forward to seeing the movie and enjoying it and hope that it does well so we can get to see more.

I would love to see somthing soon, I would love to see them take advantage of the holiday movie going season and put a teaser trailer out, but if they don't I can wait, I won't like it but I can wait, but to say that you are not giving the fans something because of a script or something is and I am sorry to say this, just stupid.

Oh yes, TDK teaser trailer is amazing, I saw it last night at a midnight showing of IAL, that is how you promote a film, they have had the same kind of crap leaked and they didn't hold anything back.

"Totally awesome" :cwink: "amazing" I said WOW.

Good point DK I think the hype level for The Dark Knight is off the scales right now.

It really is isn't it CJ bud, it is just crazy, the hype for that film is just amazing, WB is doing a great job with it's marketing right now and IMO that teaser is the best I have seen this year along with TF and 300.

I said WOW as soon as it was played and we hear the Joker speak and then when he came on screen everyone in the theater was cheering, I can't remember seeing that before, it is going to be a huge movie.
